Wikipedia states this game is being made by The Chinese Room (Dear Esther) and not Frictional Games? So not the original developers from The Dark Descent?

Kind of wish I didn't blind-buy this then if that's the case :s I was really looking forward to playing a new Amnesia.

"Stop trading". What a bad way to word that 8| I thought they meant they bought their studio free from the stock market, or something. But they closed down?

    The Divide (2011)

Felt sick in my stomach after watching, left me with a bad aftertaste... In a good way, if that makes any sense? It's very disturbing at times and a bit too extreme but hey, it's a movie so I'm fine with the exaggerations but seems like a lot of people thought it made the characters unrealistic. Whatever, I liked it... It affected me and that's what I want when I watch a movie!

Shelter (the badger game). Saw a lot of potential in this one but it didn't live up to its expectations. I also finished it in 76 minutes so that probably makes it the shortest game I've played on Steam

Too bad, could've been an emotional journey but it's just lackluster.

Game dev tycoon, played it for about 10 hours but that's cos I really like simulation games Pretty decent!

Some more stuff I didn't like:

    Quote

    QTE ending

I wasn't expecting a Metal Gear Solid boss battle but you sure presented it as such so I was kinda disappointed when it didn't turn out to be like that. Fuck Briggs, seriously. Sam should work solo, I hope I don't hear from that dude in the next game, definitely not play as him! Did no one learn anything from MGS2, Devil May Cry 4... etc?

Why can't I switch shoulder when I'm aiming? Can you only do that while in human shield mode, why? :/

So I guess I summed up a whole deal of things I didn't like over the last couple of posts so here's the stuff I DID like

    Quote

Mandatory stealth missions were really cool

I wasn't expecting that, thought the game would be CoD where it's possible to do things the oldschool way if you really wanted but it feels like you guys really went back to the roots! Ty for that!

I'm really happy there were some secret facilities you had to break into or escape!

The laptops, dead-drops and capture-this-dude were nice distractions.

I guess if I didn't mention other things it must've been that I liked them xD

Overall I think it's a solid addition to the series. I did miss some mission-impossible wow moments, mostly it felt like I was just moving through a level rather than actually having to interact or do something with it. Can't really wrap my finger around it why some levels weren't more memorable. (Like the bank level in Chaos Theory). I felt some levels were a bit hit or miss like I said earlier but I can overlook some. Anyhow, it was definitely fun and I enjoyed it and I'm gonna replay some missions in the weekend.

I think I'm about halfway through or further now and I really like it, some levels are a bit off but most of them allow me to play old school splinter cell

    Quote

Like the train level. I think it already was kind of meh or even bad but the FPS Briggs thing topped it to holy shit levels of WTF. You should've seen my face... I was actually laughing out loud cos I couldn't believe they actually went there xD

    RANT:

I can attest to all of that Rick, although once you've gotten over all the hurdles the game is really good You can actually skip the whole intro apparently and teleport right into your base of operations, I advise doing just that you won't miss out on much.

So far I've had 2 crashes in SP, a memory leak leading to a crash in MP, another random crash in MP, and just lots of obstacles through Uplay. For instance you can't join a game through Uplay when your friends have a different edition of the game, it sort of detects it like 2 different games for some reason... I think I also had some disconnects and whatnot.

I also play with an xbox 360 controller so thank you people at microsoft for putting a shift-f2 button on the xbox controller, that was really thoughtful of them to keep Uplay in mind. Ok I'm grasping at straws here cos I think it's the same with battlelog and BF3... but regardless, it'd be nice if I could just stay in my couch and fix everything ingame.

But when the game works... I'm really enjoying it!

Had a memory leak while playing a multiplayer map but other than that everything's been pretty smooth

So let's talk a little about the SP, I absolutely hated the intro, aside from the technical difficulties I encountered of course but those luckily didn't happen on my home PC. The first actual mission was sweet as hell though!

    Here's why:

    Quote

Super military intro cutscene? Yawn. Military base? Wtf? Sam Fisher in an army suit? Crashing helicopter?! Explosions everywhere...

One disappointment after another, worst intro to a Splintercell as far as I can remember. And then the first mission started, undercover! WIN! Awesome gear, switching off lights. Ability to bypass areas. Hell yeah this is fucking awesome! Ace on that mission! The paladin's pretty sweet as well. So far I really like it, I like the level design, lots of options. But yeah, I'm gonna pretend the intro didn't happen, hope there's not too much of that. We'll see

Is there a way to knock out a guard and immediately lift the body on your shoulders? I have some vague memory of being able to do that in some other Splintercell game but I could be wrong.

I had hoped the MP would be more like the one from Chaos Theory (slower, pipe climbing, choking an enemy) instead of that of Double Agent but I can live with it. I do miss jumping though and it'd be nice if things were a little darker. Not sure if mercs have flashlights or not, only played 2 matches.

So those are my first impressions, I'll update once I finished the campaign, coop and whatnot But yeah, looking good! Nice job!

To be fair they're funny when taken out of context but CoD does some pretty cool stuff as well that BF4 doesn't have

The 5km relay race was yesterday and it went pretty good! My time was 23:28. We had 3 DICE teams of 5 people each and of all of them 2 people ran slower than me so I've nothing to be embarrassed about (Fastest was 18:44 and slowest 26:02) Pretty happy with how much progress I was able to make considering I only started 3 weeks ago. I think I'm gonna keep up this routine and mix it back with lifting weights.

First I've heard of this issue? Update your drivers maybe?

The slowdown seems related to the framerate apparently, sort of like it's trying to catch up to what's happening even though I never drop below 30 and have Vsync off. Anyhow I'm on my work PC, I'll try again tonight on my home PC and be sure to update all drivers and such

Opening cinematic stuttered like crazy. It sucks that I wasn't able to tweak the settings before that intro video? I was in windowed mode for some reason, sort of an immersion breaker. Then I got into the game and the whole game feels like it's in slow motion, all the sounds are fine but all animations are weightless and feel slowed down. Is that how it's supposed to be or...? Going home now, gonna try again tomorrow. :/

Played To The Moon. Very overrated imo, this game is almost 100% dialogue and it's not very well written unfortunately. Very unbelievable conversations, definitely from the kids perspectives which sort of gets the whole story arch rolling (or derailing). It's sort of a visual novel with an incompetent writer. Mood and music is awesome though! It was sort of interesting but in the end it didn't come together for me.

Wasn't bad, wasn't good. Ok, meh.

It's kind of funny when you look back. Battlefield 2142 (after patches) had 17 maps, and two added via a single DLC. Battlefield 3 had nine maps, and a further 20 added via five DLCs. What's Battlefield 4 going to be, five maps in the base game?

Well I don't know a lot about these decisions and finances and such so I assume it's cos costs of development have gone up over the years? It's a bit unfair to compare that to a game that's 7 years old.

I don't play a lot of MP shooters anymore so unfortunately I don't know how many maps other games ship with these days.

It's twice the cost cos Premium includes all expansion packs, which pretty much totals to content for a whole new game. DICE LA will (is already?) working on Premium although some of the early expansions are still made inhouse. Which is why you saw the GM of DICE LA in that video at gamescom.

    It's confusing indeed

I still don't understand why the pre-order incentive is included in Premium... Why would you pre-order if you can wait till release, check out reviews and then just get Premium for no additional cost with all content? I suppose cos the pre-order of the base game is a tiny bit cheaper before it's released? Or if you're not interested in Premium at all then the free DLC is kinda nice. Anyhow, still sounds a bit like a weak incentive for the hardcore fans... But then again, they don't need an incentive :/

Slightly related, I know there's been some confusion regarding which studio is gonna work on which IP so here:

    Quote

“We will support a lot of what's made in Stockholm from LA,” DICE CEO Patrick Söderlund told Eurogamer. “Imagine stuff like potential expansion packs and premium services being managed and handled out of LA. But the main game, Battlefront, is being built in Sweden. And so is Mirror's Edge. And so is Battlefield 4.

The Elder Scrolls Online will have a monthly fee. Wait wut? I don't play MMO's these days but from the little I've read I thought monthly subscriptions were pretty much dead, except for WoW? I mean, SWTOR went F2P so it seems kind of odd that they think they're gonna make it?

Is there a way to buy BF4 Premium before release? Or do I have to buy BF4 and then buy premium later?

Getting hyped for this though! So many good games coming out X(

Seems like it's pretty much the same like with BF3? Pre-order and get 1 DLC for free. The exception is that you're now able to get Premium before the game is released.

I'm still baffled how they do it. Is it 100% legal? Do developers get the same cut as they would through steam or other channels?

From the little I've seen it seems like they recycle copies, thus it's pretty much like a retail store... and fuck retail stores and 2nd hand sales.
