Interseting. The impression I'm getting is that The Last of Us is as much about zombies as Uncharted 1 was. That is, they're in the world but they're not the main antagonist or focus of the game — which makes this kind of a zombie game, but not really. They're just one of presumably many post-apocalyptic threats.

    Sounding better and better.

Sounds like the set up of The Walking Dead and Terra Nova. Hopefully the characters will be better than those shows if they're going to pull the "ignore the elephant outside the window" routine.

It's back up again now...Anyone have theories as to why part of New York (or a city it's based on) is flooded?

Could be several of the various dams around the city broke?

After Sons of Liberty, MGS joined Final Fantasy in the great games to play when you feel like watching a movie genre.

Can´t wait to see all the jagged edges and blurry textures on the 360 though

I visited a friend who had purchased a 55" LED TV back when I was using a 32" LCD one. Surprisingly, the 360 looked REALLY good on there compared to my smaller set. I guess it depends on if the game is rendered at 720p and upscaled to 1080p or if it's natively rendered at 1080p.

It's kind of amusing that there's been no end of zombie games, yet not one has really come even close to hitting the kind of feelings films like 28 Days/Weeks Later and I Am Legend brought out.

Someone has clearly never played The Thing. This game was way ahead of its time.

It's a total PITA to set this up, but GOOD LORD what an improvement in the visual quality!

    http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11

TL;DR version - adds HDR, ini tweaks that actually work, and a metric butt-ton of hi-res textures (several of which come in 1024 or 2048 res versions)

Thanks for the tip, Froyok! Made the game look much better.

Sadly, the single player campaign had the same issue Rage did. By the time the game finally got its legs and started getting good, it was over.

I'm not in the industry, but I'll give my 2c on Sketchup.

Sketchup is awesome for creating exact 2D layouts to proper scale, but kinda sucks for full-blown 3D. I've done both creating a 2D layout in Sketchup and building the actual geometry via BSP (in UE3) and gone the full blown 3D model in Sketchup and imported into the editor (in Source).

UE3 kinda throws you for a loop that only allows for additive geometry building (6 BSP blocks to create a square room) whereas UE3 allows both additive and subtractive (1 cube additive brush and 1 subtractive brush to hollow out the first cube).

To start out on your own, it's probably just best to do it how you're most comfortable, but learn a 3D suite so you can easily hop into a studio that exclusively builds in 3D suites and imports into the game engine (id Software, 343 Industries, Sony Santa Monica, etc.).

Also, was it Sledgehammer that did the MW3 SP campaign? It almost feels like an Obsidian production. I've heard the multiplayer and coop are excellent, making me believe that IW handled those portions.

COD4 had 2-3 scenes that really blew your mind mixed in with good pacing and an almost anti war themed story. MW2 onwards tired to shock you ever 20 mins and went completely team america, fuck yea.

I don't get the Team America thing in MW2 considering the US was getting its poopoo pushed in the entire game, the SAS Team was still doing all the "real" work, and it was a US General that was trying to kick off World War 3.

MW2 was definitely a little too fast paced, constantly pushing you through every level from start to finish with no time to take in the scenery, but I still maintain it is one of the best single-player campaigns of this generation. It may have been a 6 hour rollercoaster, but every minute of that 6 hours was pure awesome.

Finished all 4 seasons of Prison Break. What a great show in the first two seasons. Got a little silly in season 3 with the Panama Business, and downright absurd in Season 4, but goddamn was it addictive up until the final scene.

US release date for the PC is today. 16 GB download through Steam. I hope to god that means higher res textures than console for that size.

Design a small map aimed at teaching players a specific mechanic, or teaching the game's basic mechanics using only the scenario or environment (no tutorial messages or dialogue).
