You're lucky you were still a glimmer in your daddy's eyes back before video games had real graphics.

Back in my day, THIS was HD gaming, and we were happy with it, dammit!

But just work on your portfolio and keep trying. You learn so much from each map/model you make that the next one is always better. If you're working a crap job fulltime while striving towards a job in the games industry I actually think you're better off than someone sitting in a Game Design class creating a atrocious boardgame while analyzing the fun-potential of dungeons and dragons, thinking that it will land them their dream job as game designer on Diablo 4. I'll try to sum it up.

If you hate your job and dread getting up every morning, then you're more motivated at working to fix your situation (ie. improve your portfolio and get a job already )

This x10,000. Just make sure to get on it while you're young. It gets much harder to find that elusive free time and have the energy for it when you're older, have a house, pets, etc. I wouldn't even want to think about it how hard it would be with kids in the equation.

Good luck with that Pampers. There's also a Shit Creek in Ireland, but I doubt they'll allow that either.

I personally went to the Guildhall and can confirm it works. It's focused on practical knowledge and projects that develop your skills, the curriculum is designed and taught by people from the industry and you learn a lot.

I can vouch for this. I know quite a few Guildhall grads personally. I've noticed that even those who aren't naturally talented level designers can at least emerge from the program with enough working knowledge to create quality content.

ok i cant be bothered waiting for you to answer this, anyway you're wrong in that it is well designed; because i can logically get to the conclusion that it isn't.because the skilltree structure is the same for every class, it assumes every class has skill that are equally balanced at any given tier. this is a logical fallacy; for when balancing asymmetrical skills, you cannot assume that one skill is equal to another. so even though the template for the skill tree may seem well-designed, it allows for a huge error margin due to leaving out class balance in the skill tree. this is not good design by any means.

by contrast a balanced skill tree would recognize that each individual skill of each class is not equal to any other class' skill of the same tier. instead it would seek to regulate the individual classes between each other in order to preserve balance (this is an example of how it could potentially be done, there could be other ways of reaching the same result).

That's an awfully long post that only conveyed the information that these two words could have covered: "I disagree."

WoW didn't invent skill trees, they just established a really well-designed implementation of them for an MMO. NEXT!

Please show me where I said they invented skill trees or I'm not dealing with this strawman. The only difference between implementation in these two games is in one you go up the tree and in the other you go down.

I'm not trying to argue that the skill trees aren't laid out in a format like that of WoW's, just that having skill trees doesn't make a game "WoW"-like. There are some WoW-like elements, such as item text coloring, the existence of instanced dungeons, and an extremely responsive client interface compared to most MMO's. The majority of "this is like WoW, but Star Wars" comments are should be worded "this is like most theme-park MMO's that have come before, but Star Wars."

The game experience as a whole is vastly different than WoW. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be playing.

Don't talk wet. The talent trees are an exact copy with the names jumbled around. And I've played plenty of MMO's that didn't use this system: EQ, AO, Aion, Lineage II, so don't try that noise.

also it's sad to see that every game just defaults to be based on a cooldown ability system rather than integrating cast time channeling and combat styles. hey let's just simplify all challenge to one button presses without timing or skill needed! let's not make conditional skills that let players effectively use openings. /wrists

Sweater has channeled abilities, abilities with a cast wind up, and conditional abilities. Hell, my Sith Warrior has 2 out of those 3. [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif]

You people find any excuse to bitch about a game, don't you? Stop watching so much Zero Punctuation. This game is fantastic.

The areas probably feel empty because they instance every zone like in AoC so that you're not competing with 50 people for quest mobs/items. I'll admit that they're a little aggressive in their use of this.

Can't comment on too much of the instancing as all I've done is the Black Talon (which is one of the best instances I've ever played in any MMO).

I'm a little surprised no one's mentioned the lack of loading screens. There's so much streaming going on in this game, you almost never see a loading bar.
