i don't think i have ever heard of anyone complaining about the interface in a game being part of the gaming experience, so i'll have to disagree. so yes, a game can still be brilliant despite a worse than average interface (not saying that metro 2033 is).
Did you ever play Borderlands on the PC? Fun game, but the interface...good god!

Great stuff, Corwin. Loved the postmortem too. Can't wait to check this out over the weekend.

you blame this on the mac? i can only agree with mazy, that some of you guys act like childish fools. get a life. thanks.
Hey now, no need for all the misguided hostility. This is just the beginning, and things will only improve for you and your Mac brethren from here. Peace be unto you, my brother. This is a time of celebration, not fighting.

I for one would like to congratulate and welcome the Mac to 2004. It's going to be a great year.

I don't know why you guys are having such a hard time with this.

I personally found both games better than Crysis, which simply looked prettier.

are you serious? while crysis may not be the best game ever created, it at least wasn't extremely tedious to play through... unlike both halo and gears (and killzone, for that matter)
I guess it's a matter of personal tastes. If you don't like cover-based shooters, any campaign with it will feel tedious, no matter how well done it is. I could understand finding the first Gears campaign tedious, but if that's what you think about the second one, well...

Where's his junk???

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you got lucky there. That was one incredibly complex boss encounter.

The Gears 2 campaign was leaps and bounds better than the first one. It was longer, had a lot more variety, and much better spectacles than the first game. Act 3 was dumb and too much of a deviation from the formula, just like in Act 3 of the first campaign, but overall it was a much better experience. My main complaint with the second game's campaign was the lack of a final boss fight like you had with RAAM at the end of the first Gears.

Lots of Gears hate on this forum.

Sorry for the hijack, Dark. Good luck with the release!

Because short campaigns are cooler in many ways.1. It takes less time to develop, so you get more games more quickly

What games have come out quicker due to this? 2-3 years still appears to be the standard, despite shorter campaign length in some franchises.
Quote2. It takes less time to play through, so an investment in a game doesn't chain you to your sofa for 30 hours in order "to get your moneys worth."
I don't see how this is a good thing. As long as a game has a built in system to let you walk away for every 10-15 minute play segment, that seems casual friendly enough. God of War 3 and Batman Arkham Asylum are two games with a medium length campaign (10-12 hours), and despite that they aren't as long as some of the 20-30 hour non-RPG campaigns, they feel just right in length. Long enough to feel satisfied, but not so long as to get repetitive.
QuoteOn the other hand the games should be cheaper tho

Agreed. I feel like I'm paying for a full price game for an expansion pack's worth of content lately.
-
5 hour campaign? Why are more and more games coming out with such criminally short single player campaigns?
Sorry Dark, this game just went to rental status.
