I'm building a new PC and would appreciate some input. I will be mostly doing level design with some gaming, and maybe a little 3D rendering on the PC. Any thoughts on the AMD Hexcores versus an Intel i7? I'd love nothing more than to move away from 15 minute lightmass builds.

Finished Splinter Cell Conviction. Really fun after I finally wrapped my brain around the more action oriented game play.

As we were walking out of Carmack's keynote, who did we see sitting quietly in the back minding his own business but Richard Garriott. My wife wanted to shake his hand, but by the time she worked up the courage, he had already gone up on stage to get ready for his space trip presentation (which was stupid amounts of awesome). So much for asking when Ultima Online 2 will become a reality.

I'm assuming there will be an explanation (story-wise) as to why the aliens are now ground-bound bipeds versus floaty monstrosities?

All business decisions aside, AOC is actually a really fun game and deserves more recognition imo.
The starting area, Tortage, was excellent. Excellent! That's how MMO leveling should be. If the rest of the game had been at that quality, and it hadn't been so broken (I played at release, so I'm sure it's quite different now), I might still be playing it today.

Game play>>> graphics. It's been proven to be a bad idea to push high end graphics for MMO's. WoW is living proof of that.Age of Conan is a prime example of how fail pushing the graphics envelope is in the Mmo world where you rely on millions of subscriptions to pay the bills.
Everything I've seen so far indicates that they're shooting for a similar experience to playing KOTOR in real time with a persistent world. If they pull it off, it would give Blizzard a serious run for their money.

Megatextures apply to all static parts of a scene. Meshes, terrain, BSP, etc.

What phone is that?
Samsung Captivate. So far it kicks the crap out of the iPhone experience, and I was an Apple phone fanboi for years.
Right now I'm looking at either that exact phone or the iphone 4. I'm going to the store tomorrow to try them both out... I've had a 2g iphone since the early days, but it's on its last legs.. I love it, but more and more its getting on my nerves. slow, and apple's bullshit is annoying me. I think the iphone4 looks cooler.. but I don't give a shit about that, and the captivate certainly isn't bad looking. And its not like I don't love google and samsung just as much as my iphone (I'm reading this on a samsung monitor in a google chrome browser
)! Think it might be time for a change.Just wait until you update your contacts in gmail and see your phone contacts update along with it without having to plug in and sync. That right there liked any buyer remorse I had.

Splinter Cell Conviction. Having a hard time adjusting to the new game play style.

Those screen shots look like they were taken from the 360 port. The PS3 textures were almost on par with the PC ones, and the PC version only had a scant few low-quality textures here and there.

Ditched the iPhone 3G for an Android phone. Couldn't be happier thus far.

Todd told everyone to turn off their phones and no videotaping.
They showed several different levels:
Wasteland on-foot area near the beginning
Wasteland in-car fighting area leading to Wellspring
Wellspring
Caves leading to the well under Wellspring
Dam
Dead City (last one pictured there)

Bioshock back in the hands of Irrational Games. Fuck yeah! Maybe they'll finally come back around to System Shock after this one.

At the keynote session, John Carmack unveiled his port of the Idtech 5 engine to the iPhone. It was ridiculously good looking. In the tech demo, it literally looked like a lower-poly 360/PS3 game, but the textures looked like they were from a current generation console. And it ran at 60 FPS. To top it off, he had only been working on it over the course of 6 weeks in his spare time. Absolutely brilliant work.
Finally got to see his gift of gab, as he would start talking about something, go off on a series of tangents for an hour, and still manage to lead back into the original topic. The best thing I can compare it to is the Temple of Pandora from God of War 1, in conversation form.

We haven't had a NP thread this year, so once again it's time for me to open a new one!Currently playing Resistance: Fall Of Man. First and foremost, this game has the best glass effects I've seen! The way it breaks, the cracks that appear on the surfaces of windows.. it looks realistic! The game itself is pretty run of the mill so far, run and gun, occasionally fighting bosses and pressing the odd button to open a gate, kinda overrated compared to reviews imho. Graphically it's pretty mixed, as a PS3 launch title it's dated a little, some horrible textures and everything either looks grey, green or blue.. which makes the game almost depressing to play at times, but there's a lot of care put into it and some of the detail is insane. Some fucking awesome weapons in there to play with, especially like the Auger and Hedgehog mines!
The campaign set in Nottingham (my hometown) is fucking lol, especially the bridge at the beginning... there is so such thing here! The only thing that I recognised was the council house! I also lolled at Grimsby section where the Chimera had set up a breeding centre in a Fish factory..
I had a lot of fun during the Cheddar Gorge bit, it really looked like it too, having been there several times. It was originally designed for the PS2, and it shows in a lot of the areas. It gets a lot better towards the end. The second one on the other hand, is fucking gorgeous.

So is this game Raven Squad/Rogue Warrior bad, Cosmic Race bad, or Too Human bad?

Wasn't there a Duke Nukem Forever gameplay video that came out awhile back with the Gearbox logo during the intro splashes? This feels like old news. Was the old video a "fake" or something?
