Actually, Sunshine had a pretty amazing ending. Dunno if you've seen it.
I thought Pitch Black had a perfect ending too. Too bad the sequel movie was so bad.

Quote from Senturathe combat system was so wrongly engineered in the first one. i seriously hated it with a passion. instead of making it either real time OR turn based, they went with a hybrid system that has benefits from neither side, and disadvantages from both. i'm interested in picking it up, but if the system is as bad as in the first one, it's too much work for some o.k. narrative and decision making.
There was nothing wrong with the combat system if you set up your party AI tactics up properly. I would usually just tank with my character and let the AI DPS do their own things. On very hard enemy or boss fights I would usually have to micromanage, but that happens with all RTS-style games. You just have the luxury of pausing while issuing commands in this one.
Now if you wanted to talk about how ridiculously overpowered AoE was, the poor AI always chasing your puller into traps/choke points, or how there were too many of the indoor ambushes that would kill you once and be trivial once you know it's coming, you'd have some valid criticism on the combat.

Quote from duxI'm eager to play this, but I was kind of hoping for a continuation of the firsts story. But I realise not everyone would want that and would prefer something new, but oh well.
Did you play Awakening? Not to spoil anything but
Quotethere really isn't much more to tell depending on the final decisions you make in the xpac. If you side with the Architect, the Darkspawn are freed of their drive to awaken old gods, which pretty much ends the prospect of future blights.
First game was an intriguing experience. I never really noticed when the game got its hooks into me. All I know was that I had plenty of criticisms about the dialogue system, dated graphics, etc. But for some reason I just could not. stop. playing.
The Ra-style bridge hooked me. Nice job. ![]()
Beautiful stuff there. It looks less "real" than Crysis, but somehow more awesome. Good job. ![]()
Seems pretty messed up to be demanding updates and releases from a team that you're not paying to recreate an old favorite.
Quote from Vilhambecause that was the first time it had even shown me C4 and i had no idea what it was. Anyway what kind of shoddy design is that, if you make a choice you get severely punished such that you have to reload an earlier checkpoint?
What level was it? There's usually another launcher laying around somewhere. ![]()
Someone should open a Netflix business in Europe. Makes Blu-Rays a much better experience. ![]()
Quote from JetsetlemmingAlso I got Gears of War 1 and The Witcher today. Gears of War 1 is absolutely atrociously terrible, and it killed my enthusiasm for games a bit, so I haven't touched The Witcher. Seriously, how could anyone think enemies that take 2+ clips of ammo each to die is fun? Shit's horrid. And you have 1/10th their health so good luck running up for chainsaw kills. And you can't that I could tell cook the grenades, and the enemies would all run away from them as they landed, dodging them most of the time. And you lose all ability to steer when you sprint. Playing as Marcus Fenix couldn't feel less fun to play if he had no legs and I had to control crawling around on the ground QWOP style.
Maybe you're doing it wrong. It's more about tactical gameplay than CoD style shooting galleries (though you can of course take that approach, but it loses the fun). Almost every map has flanking routes which should be used while exposing yourself as little as possible (to both keep from getting killed and because the enemies are not omniscient about your position unless they see you). If you're using the Lancer, aim for the legs and they crumble for a curb stomp in seconds. Grenade placement has to be tactical as well to avoid the enemies getting away. Sprinting is designed to quickly move to cover. It's not meant to be your typical twitchy FPS experience, but it sounds like you're trying to force that square peg into a round hole anyways.
Either way, the original was a new idea that had a fair amount of flaws that were almost all addressed in the second game. Hope you find a way to enjoy it so the money wasn't wasted.
Why would you use a rocket launcher to take out the SAM when you have C4 and explosive barrels? ![]()
Goddammit, I was out of town while the sale was going on. ![]()

Quote from VilhamDisplay MoreJesus Christ, who wrote the design doc for the helicopter in crysis, because the choppers are fucking retarded. I don't think ive encountered a more annoying and poorly thought out enemy vehicle in my entire gaming history. From the first point the chopper joins the game it went from a fun to tedious and shit.It has pin point accuracy.
It is impossible to hide from. Even if you stealth and go somewhere it can't possibly see you it knows where you are.
It detects you if you come within 500ft
It doesn't stop chasing you ever?!
You can't shoot it down with a normal gun.
It takes 5+ grenade launchers (I don't know exactly because hitting it more than 50% of the time with the nade launcher is pretty tough) to destroy it.
Same goes for jeeps and boats too, as soon as they can possibly see you, they have seen you.
Strange. I was always able to find a missle launcher any time a chopper was around. In fact it got to the point that when I spotted one on a map, I knew it was a cue to start exploring and there was always a launcher (or a few) available. 2 shots and done with. Seeing through the cloak was pretty annoying, but I'm guessing the logic was supposed to be they're equipped with infrared sensors.
Never had the same issues with Jeeps and boats though. They had a pretty good range to spot you, but jeeps are endless sources of hilarity. Shoot out a tire when it's going full speed and laugh as it comedically flips over. Then shoot the gas tank on the back as the soldiers scramble to escape and cackle madly as it explodes before they can get away. Boats are funny when you shoot the gunner and play crackshot to headshot the driver before it gets away (assuming the AI doesn't panic and drive into a mine). ![]()
Quote from n8brakertrue, but i foresee valve growing to be the number one online mp gaming supplier within a few years. if they are the standard for online mp, retail games wont be worth much anymore because the online mp will have less support outside of steam, wich means there will be less competition. little competition + free market means pretty much the consumer is screwed. wich is me...
Well if the rest of the digital distribution industry would make their product as good as Steam, this wouldn't be an issue. I've used Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, and EA's download manager. Surprisingly, the last one was the most convenient one, and it's still pretty horrible compared to Steam.
Finished Monkey Island 2 and Metro 2033 this weekend. ![]()
