Here is my entry - Pit Stop. I wanted to go for something absurd and over-the-top.

I never realized this was a valid debate. It always seemed more of an opinion fest.

didnt this game use to be black and white ? that would have been awesome has there ever been a real black and white game. ? i mean that trys to mimic the look of black and white film not:silent film: pb winterbottom
indian shadow theater : limbo
or frank miller : mad world
i mean actual black and white film ? shame that they are shying away from this i bet some marketing people had some pie charts ready to proof that people prefer color and it would hurt sales.
doesnt matter really though i am just gonna dial down the saturation on my tv i guess.
There's an option to make it black & white only under the pause menu.

I know it's totally OK for someone to use say... Hammer or UDK to create an environment and put it into their portfolio, but what would you all say about someone using these to make levels;Starcraft II
LittleBigPlanet
Modnation Racers
Super Meat Boy Editor
Things like this.
Post your thoughts on this please.
Thanks!
I would imagine you'd want to make levels for any types of games you would want to be paid professionally to work on. HL2/UDK out of the box are great if you want to make shooters. If you want to make open-ended RPGs, you'd probably want to use Bethesda's Elder Scrolls Construction Kit or the GECK (also if you want to develop a nasty drinking habit). If you want to make RTS games, then SC2 is a no-brainer. If you want to make Bioware RPGs, use the Aurora editor or the Dragon Age editor.

When does the first one get good? I've put about 5 hours in, and each time I stop, I come out feeling like I've clicked more times than you would on a Facebook game and Torchlight combined, only with less progress and satisfaction.

MW2 just got a bit too "fuck yea" for me and if they could stop staying "Danger close" every 5 mins. There has not really been a bad one yet though, nothing close to COD4 mind.
The abuse of the "Oscar Mike" phrase had me rollin' in MW2. It's like they found a new toy and had to show it off at every opportunity. Other than that, easily the best single player campaign I've ever seen (despite being woefully short).
You Brits just like MW1 better because it's all about England cleaning up the mess the US makes.

This is what I hate about most modern games. Where are the freaking shadows? I'm not saying you've done a poor job, quite the contrary, it looks nice and detailed. It's just the technical side of modern engines I don't like. CryEngine is capable of realistic environments and keep it playable, even with shadows on for the majority of all objects on screen. I just hope for more engines to do the same. I assume it's because of consoles not being able to render all the goodies PCs can, so they have to leave it out. Imagine these scenes with shadows, would look far better.
Dude, I simply jacked up the ambient lighting and never got to the actual lighting pass phase.

stupid western stereotypes that Russians are bad guys who drink vodka and sleep with their Ak47s.
Maybe, just maybe, Russia is the only publicly perceived country that has the technology, manpower, and military might to take on the US in direct conflict. Motivation from that whole trying to take over the world and convert it to Communism from 1945-1989. Maybe the evil stereotype stems from Stalin being the most brutal mass-murderer in recorded history. I dunno, all these things put together make Russia the most plausible enemy to attack the US in a video game story. It's certainly less far-fetched than North Korea invading the US on the believability front.

Can't you just place point lights to simulate lighting bounces?
-
Still too dark, broheim. Your map should look dark, not be dark. Up the ambient lighting a bit. Also your bright lights are way too concentrated. They should light up the area around them a lot more.
-
Looks badass!

Thanks, Rick. I never got to the lighting and adding little details phase since I try to keep that until after all the major game play stuff is done. Sadly, the GECK just refused to save any scripting, so that was as far as I got in the project.

This is quickly becoming my favorite mobile game after purchasing last night.

Looking pretty good, Sarge! I like the way you organized the large and small clutter to help provide guidance on where to go (or at least that's how it looks from the screenshots). I would add in a few high contrast lights in appropriate areas to help guide the player more, as right now it's pretty samey and monochromatic. Where does the playable space end on this map? Are you using geometry or invisible walls to block players in?

Is it kosher to redo the brushwork for the Gears of War editor as long as the door size remains the same? Came up with a pretty cool idea that I can't pull off without writing custom UDK mechanics.

Is this a passenger subway train? I'd recommend revisiting your choice of props unless you can incorporate some environmental storytelling to explain why a ton of cargo crates are in a pedestrian train station.
