ahaha HP that's just so wrong man.... I don't know what the figures are like today, but in christmas 09 the most common size for a tv to play games on was still 32". Considering those could only ever be 720p, it's just poor design to not provide for a text upscale if you don't have a 1080p....

my tvs 32" it does 1080p, I know that because the PS3 starts up in 1080p

indeed. tbh there are always going to be things about the toolset you won't know, they are constantly evolving and exporters are constantly changes. Theres nothing wrong with asking if your stuck.

Well as an artist you are gunna use max most of the time on this project. So shouldn't take long, the exporter and that process isn't too complicated.

    When do u start btw?

1.5 years roughly. Btw be prepared for the tools to make you cry they ain't no epic tools (although as an artist you shouldn't have to use them too much). Although they are better since we started using unity.

just a quick question or point. You definately have permission to post that game stuff? has the game been announced yet, if not I would consider passwording that page and only giving the pw to perspective employers, I have done a similar thing for my work on the outsider.

Vilham, I live with one of gameplay coders. Save&Load is the most complex and bitch thing you can deal with in a video-game. It's sounds easy as fuck, all you need to do is save the current state of the game and the load it like it was... Right? WRONG. I think I'd risk it to say that half the bugs in games are caused from save&load problems. It's complex, and it's hard to implement and it generates a lot of problems.

Yes I understand that, Frontier had lots of problems but far more of the time was spent deciding what was worth saving or not in an open world game, than actually implementing it.

If frontier can pull it off in an open world game and Crytek can pull it off in Crysis I don't understand how a larger and better funded studio can't in a linear game. Obviously it takes time and effort, but I find it hard to believe that Crysis 2 is so significantly different to Crysis 1 that you cant retrofit that in.

It just doesn't make sense to me that it was a technical decision and not a design one. Which as I said, is fine, its your game. But don't complain at backlash your fans might give you. Do you guys remember the back lash MW2 got for removing tons of features? This is nothing compared to that so don't get quite so defensive about it (I understand you spent several years working on this but I don't think anyone is attempting to make personal attacks). But if that's what you say, k. Ill leave it at that.

And don't get me wrong, I respect the fact that you guys can finish a game on time and within budget.

wow you guys are right, i never noticed it before. it's totally just laziness.

Where did I say it was down to laziness? It's clearly a decision your leads made and clearly it was a bad one (or they knew this would happen and decided their PC market was irrelevant) else there wouldn't be many people complaining about it.

So you're saying that since we were a PC only game in 2007 we need to stick to these roots only until the end of time? The hardcore AAA PC market was still ok in 2007. This is 2011 now.

If your point is that the game shouldn't have been called Crysis then, just try and pitch a brand new IP concept to a publisher that doesn't even own you. Good luck getting any funding.

I was pointing out that adding a quick save to a PC version isn't as hard as your guys are making out, sure you have to make some decisions on what needs to be saved and what doesn't but that doesn't make it impossible to do otherwise your going to have to deal with fans that are gunna be very annoyed and probably won't buy your next game.

Either way im done with this thread, I personally don't care what decisions you made as I don't have crysis 2 nor did I think the first was that amazing so I don't fall into the above group so it doesn't effect me, im just pointing out that whats his face had a valid complaint.

doesn't make sense. if the system doesn't work well with quicksaves then it doesn't work well with quicksaves, it has nothing to do with console vs pc.

wot? Did you read furyos comment at all?

it's got very little to do with performance on the PC, but rather the fact that maintaining multiple code bases (one for each platform) is a monstrous task, save and load is the lowest it goes for game code and it's very risky to develop different systems for each platform. The key to developing a multi platform game is to not separate too many features until the very end, once it's basically done. That is assuming you invest equal budgets to each platform, 33% ...

The best "console to pc ports" I've seen take the finished console game and adjust it to fit the pc market (think mass effect) but for obvious reasons Crytek couldn't do that Rest assured we are supporting PC with unique features in the coming months.

I think allot of people here who have not worked on a multi platform game won't understand that it's another league all together in terms of a design and technical challenges, it's very easy to criticize when all you look at is one platform.

I have worked on a multi-platform game, admittedly we decide to scrap a PC version entirely. But as a new franchise our fan base didn't come from the PC, so we weren't screwing anyone by significantly changing a game system.

Thinking about it our game did basically quick save as it autosaved at many points (it was an open world game) and saved as much data as we felt necessary without breaking the gameplay.

I think you missed his point on A, furyo, just because the console can't have quicksave doesn't mean the PC can't.

  • What are you playing now?

wot. Its by FAR the worst hitman. I was so massively disappointed when I played it.

Myself ive been playing Soldiers: heroes of WWII which is pretty damn gooood. Shame its quite short, I defo need to get Men of War. Gothic 3 which im enjoying, its a shame the combat isn't as good as i remember. I defo need a new PC though, my laptop chuggs when it loads.
