One of the best stealth games? Really? Did you guys even play the same game. Its the same bad stealth that was in uncharted, literally one for one the same.

Agreed on RFG though, that game was amazing.

So far I would give it a high 80, best writing in any game I have ever played. However nearly all of the gameplay mechanics are pretty damn unpolished, the animations are honestly quite terrible at times (so much sliding/snapping) and atleast for the first 4-5 hours the level design was uninspired (although it definately has picked up in the last 4-5 hours I have played).

It depends on how the game is put together though, surely? Many multiplayer games today have server-based bots, which are almost exactly the same concept: the assets for the NPC are on the gamer's machine, the logic and placement is handled by the server. I don't see how this same concept couldn't be applied to single-player games.

The latency is a definite issue, which is why this kind of thing is best suited to inherently multiplayer and co-op games more than single-player. Even then, it's best off being used for secondary stuff when possible (eg: animals in the game world).

If you actually consider how many games have bots though and how complex they are. Single player AI are often more expensive than multiplayer ones as they have complex tasks like perception, idle states, etc, in multiplayer most bots know where everyone is the whole time and run some basic routines from that. And yeah, you could use it to run some none essential stuff, but really the gains for real time gameplay are minimal. The Forza stuff has some purpose.

You can't shift AI calculations etc to "the cloud" without severe lag, On my uber german internet I have a ping of around 30ms to speedtest, to any game server that is probably about the same. That is an entire frame in a 30fps game. So I send the message to "the cloud" then the cloud has to process my AI, then I have to receive the message back. That is probably 45+ms for this calculation. It simply doesn't work with current internet infrastructure and it doesn't matter how "fast" your internet is, all that is is bandwidth, something that isn't an issue, the issue is entirely the ping.

  • IO interactive lays off nearly half its staff

Hitman developer IO Interactive has announced that it's laying off "almost half" its staff to "focus resolutely on the future vision for the Hitman franchise."

"For those affected, we are extremely grateful for the hard work which they have contributed, and where it's possible and appropriate to relocate staff to open positions at other studios within the group, we will try to do so. We are also reaching out to other companies for outplacement opportunities. We sincerely wish them well in their future careers."In a statement obtained by Eurogamer, Square Enix VP of corporate communications Chris Glover said, "The studio will focus resolutely on the future vision for the Hitman franchise and is in pre-production on a new AAA Hitman project. However we have taken the difficult decision to cancel other studio projects and initiatives at IO and reduce the workforce in this studio, which will impact almost half of the employees currently at IO, as we make internal adjustments to face the challenges of today's market."

As part of IO Interactive's changes, its moved former production director Hannes Seifert up to studio head.

It's unclear what in-development projects were cancelled, but next to Hitman IO was best known for its Kane & Lynch series -of which a third game was heavily hinted at.

    Hopefully anyone here isn't effected.

Anything less than 1080 nowadays would be preposterous.

lots of current gen console games are actually 720, they just upscale them to 1080.

I've made some adjustments to cs_mass, if it still doesn't have any semblance of flow I'll scrap it. I have a feeling that the large open structure just doesn't lend itself to cs. Let me know who needs the map to upload it.

So you think that publishers aren't looking to make more money? They want the exact same amount and are willing to offset any extra profit?

As far as I'm aware Microsoft has control on pricing for their platform. If they weren't some of the smaller publishers probably would have already lowered their console game prices like they already do on PC.

Just to summarise. It is incredibly naive to think prices on console are likely to go down. I would say the chances are slim to none. (and to suggest game prices are as much as they are right now on console because of used sales is also incredibly naive)

They would if lowering the price of a game increases revenue by driving more sales? (And digital is cheaper so they actually won't loose money by cutting the price compared to how retail is now) It's what steam does, right? Or are those sales just steam being the "good guy", I think not.

I don't think MS genuinely cares about their consumers, but it's possible cheaper games align with making more money. I don't have an inside view on financials so I've no idea if it's actually feasible, I'm not counting on having cheaper games anyway but one can dream xD

Yeah the cheaper games bringing in more money method can work (as proven by steam), but if they are running a monopoly there is less motivation to do so, as the people that will buy games for their system don't have an alternative anyway.

The point of DRM/no trading is to get the publishers more money, so why would they counter that advantage to the publishers by then lowering the price. They wouldn't. Xbox can't be compared to things like Steam, Xbox is a platform and distribution method; and therefore a monopoly, Steam isn't.
