Nah that final encounter isn't great, I got the platinum which I think required playing it on the hardest difficulty, required cheesing some many encounters.

Finally got around to installing my launch day copy of Red Dead 2.

Just got round to playing this. And o boi. You. Need. To. Play. This.

It is fantastic, easily one of the top games this year. Has so few features that detract from its solid core gameplay. 9/10

I'm still wondering if they went full GTA open world with similar pedestrian rules / living city feel or the original vision of more hub based areas connected together. I hope the 2nd because honestly it makes for better gameplay.

Commiserations, its just a bad version of Ghost Recon Wildlands. Every core gameplay system is worse and it literally mirrors the games structure entirely.

    Super disappointing game.

    So far I got:

Remnant from the Ashes (havent played it yet)

Basement (cool concept but forces you dont a particular solution a little too much for an eco sim)

Out of space (havent played it yet but like Overcooked)

Biped (havent played it yet but got for coop)

The colonists (pretty good eco sim)

Darksiders Genesis (havent played it yet but got for coop)

You can run it safe, but might risk that it goes stale, like the avenger movies did for me and quickly lost interest. God of War is an example of the opposite where it did work. TLOU2 could be an example where not playing it safe might have failed. As I said in my first post, the writers have to balance between the story they want to tell and what the customers expect, and that can be hard.

I mean avengers movies might have lost you, but in viewing figures they only increased I think. God of War worked as it was a complete reset, new theme etc, only similar thing was Kratos.

TLOU2 takes place a few years after the last one.

"As I said in my first post, the writers have to balance between the story they want to tell and what the customers expect, and that can be hard." I think that is exactly Radus point,.

Anyway I have yet to play so I shouldn't be commenting on the specifics of this game, I was merely highlighting I don't think Radus point is a bad one.

I think just another Ellie and Joel adventure would been just that, fan service, boring and predictive, and very safe. But ND is trying to push the medium further that most other companies here and I think they deserve some kudos for that, even if they might have missed the mark. At least it wasn't some Game of Thrones ending where they just gave up in the writing room. What happens in the story is all the same to me in the end, it's the discussion around it online I have found interesting. In-game I've spent most of the time looking at the tech and all the cool details in the world lol

Not sure I buy that first bit.

I mean you can take it that the Ellie Joel story ends with Last of Us, that it was somehow final (which evidently it wasn't as they are both in this game).

But using that argument I could say well God of War two shouldn't involve the relationship between Kratos and Boy as it would just be fan service, boring and predictive and very safe.

Its a poor argument to make about a sequel. I think Radus point about consumer expectations is a very important one and is often the downfall of lots of games/IPs. Story or gameplay, making radical shifts in a sequel is a bad idea.

Haven't played this yet and still looking forward to playing this.

Kind of on the fence about this purchase, and I’d never even consider an Xbox.

"what else are people looking forward to" are you crazy bro!?

    Ratchet and Clank for one

    Spiderman 2 for two

    HZD2 for three

The next god of war whenever that comes out

Days Gone 2 whenever that comes out

But the weapon selection for example is very weird: how would it be at the player’s disposal considering Grigori just uses a shotgun, why would he research or stash special and better weapons and not use them?

The plot twist of Grigori mutating (and becoming the boss to get rid of) I saw it coming as soon as they showed he was injecting alien fluids… I think it would have been bad to make his fate finale from a narrative standpoint.

The monkeys make absolutely no sense considering there’s no fauna in HL. It makes me think of the crazy scientist in South Park and that Simpsons’ episode where Burns has flying monkeys.

Children’s traces is a bit sketchy as was completely removed from HL2 (and it’s explained why), so needed to be treated carefully/explained.

Grigori was always about traps even though he had a shotgun, do you remember ravenholm?

No fauna? There are literally birds in the first 5 mins of HL2, when you open the train station door pigeons fly off.

Yeah I played it this year just after finishing metro exodus. How metro exodus got higher review scores is beyond me. My god is metro exodus just so meh and at times (atleast on console) dog shit.

Days Gone however was a really fucking solid game. My only advice is wait for it to fully install as their partial install and play thing is implemented poorly, lead to a few game breaking bugs for me and then when you reach the point you can't progress past the UI prompt it shows is completely nonsense, had to google why the hell I couldn't leave the camp.

Ended up getting the platinium in it I think. Really looking forward to the sequel.

    Zen is Fan fucking tastic.

Spoiler The middle bit with the vortigons is a little underwhelming visually but is really cool narratively and actually ties into why gordon is considered their savior. The new level design in general in Zen (im assuming its actually all new, I don't remember zens layout that well).

The boss fight with running guy is amazing, such a great encounter, the initial fight, the build up, the mix of mechanics to escape, etc

The earth part of the game is really well done too, so much little bits of environmental story telling that I don't remember from the original, the whole complex makes a little more sense than it did in HL.

For earth the experimental lab and the lambda complex were probably my favorite parts.

    A+

Didn't somewhat feel as good as The Stick of Truth, despite I like the superhero theme more; in legth it felt better (the previous had some padding). At first I really disliked the new approach to combat in this second game, but once I understood it and the fights required some actual strategy, I got to like it a lot.

Not sure what we'll play now... always wanted to finish Ilo-Milo on my X360 and there are a couple games supporting couch-coop other than more LEGO games I already purchased. Wondering if to go for simple adventure games and just take decisions together... otherwise not sure when I'll get round to play those XD

On my own I have gone back to Spider-Man for the challenges and manage to 100% and get the outstanding scores on all the challenges for the base campaign... the ones in the DLCs not sure if I'll manage, they were quite tough. Need to go back to The Last Of Us that I've put aside again.

If you want some good coop, all the pixel junk games are good for that, you can get them on PC or console.

Specifically, shooter 1 & 2, monster and nom nom galaxy.

Lovers in a dangerous space time is good too.

Guarantee there will be next to no difference between the visual quality of games on either console.

Microsoft drive to make all their games playable on PC is great for gamers, not so great for Xbox, meanwhile Sony has half a dozen high quality exclusives.

Sony has "won" every generational contest against MS, I doubt there will be any difference here.
