they probably just want you to pick some shitty british studio that made something that wasn't complete shit - which is probably going to be the hardest part of the deal.

Depressingly close to the truth I think

disclaimer: copy pasted from my polycount thread

Really, what the hell are you supposed to look for? I've been invited to sit on the jury for the BAFTA (british acadamy of film & television) videogame award for artistic achievement, and I'm totally lost (this is either really good, or really, really bad).

It brings up a lot of very interesting questions that I'm not satisfied with my own opinions on, let alone objectively answering them. I mean ... what is art? How do you define artistic achievement? What is the yardstick that we are expected to use as artists to measure what is "good art" and what is "bad art" ? Is it even possible to categorise art that broadly (or at all)? Surely whatever I decide on is going to be completely subjective anyway?

What games do you think had great art - and why? What do you think constitutes an artistic achievement?

    Discuss.

CSS wasnt exactly great either to be honest. And CS:GO is positively awful from my experience.

Universal Principles of Design (ISBN-13 978-1-59253-007-6)

It is what it says on the tin. Fundamental principles that can be applied to anything from graphic design to architecture to UI design. Bloody brilliant book.

Maybe not the most likely forum to find programmers, but you never know!

So, I'm making a game with a couple of friends and we're kind of stuck for a programmer - we had a few lined up and they have all fallen through on us. The game is in UDK (Unreal engine) so the code will be in UnrealScript which, even if you don't know it you will be able to pick it up very quickly if you're any kind of good at programming.

    THE GAME!

    o Top-down shoot-em up

    o Objective-defense inspired gameplay

    o Hordes of enemies

Thats it in bullet points, however you will just have to trust me that we are deviating from the cliche'd path heavily here and have a vision thats very different to your generic Alien Swarm clone. If you're really interested, you can read our design wiki [email protected]

    SOME PICTURES!

This is pre-production research work so it doesnt look pretty, but it shows that we've actually done something. We've been in the R&D and Design phase for quite a while now, starting to build the framework for the game now, hence the need for a strong programmer.

I'm really not that proud of it these days. It was okay, but it had a lot of problems. Unfortunately I don't have the time to make crazy long movies like that anymore Radial took me like 6 months to make.

I'm not too sure what to say about competetive gaming, I've been right there in the middle of it for a long long time now. It's been here for a long time, its going to be here for a while longer. SC2 has been a huge move in the right direction - SC1 was a leap ahead of its time but only in Korea did it shine. That movement is going to continue, spearheaded by 1v1 games such as RTS like SC2, and FPS duel games like Quake. They're the most transparent to viewers without deep knowledge of the game. Transparency is important. Really, go read this article which explains it so well SK-Gaming Article - Transparency, or why Starcraft owns Warcraft 3p

Even making vanilla SC2 maps is valid I think, its an incredibly complex and deep game and to make a truly good map takes a lot of understanding.

Already played it, wasn't impressed to be honest. Might have been an ok title on console but it was pretty bad on PC. The time-shifting stuff with the puzzles were really cool in places, had a couple of real "AH-HA" moments, but that was it really.
