Just pointing out the hypocrisy in PogoP's comment (who worked on BM) that he doesn't see any difference at all between the mod and the new footage. It's a sad state of affairs to read such comments (also including you marks) on a board where most people make a living from making games and should know better than your average videogame fanboy about the difficulties and hurdles of making a game or you know starting a new company. Call me thin skinned but for me it makes a difference if i read such remarks from another dev on a close-knit community like mapcore or the ramblings of a 12 year old prick on a random videogame board.

I'm not sure exactly what the point is you're trying to make here. Yes, we know that making games is hard. Especially those of us that make a living from making them. Which is why when I hear about a startup involving devs from a community like this ... and it's yet another modern combat fps which (whether you like it or not) is going to be directly competing with behemoths like BF3 and CoD ... I just think come on, what the hell. Firstly that's just a stupid business proposition, and secondly why can't we do something original for once.

It's yet another case of an indie startup taking the colossal, unique advantages of being a small, low-budget outfit and throwing them out the window in order to enter (and attempt to compete in) a market which is anything but a level playing field. Thank god for kickstarter because you'd be fucked if you tried to pitch this to investors.

So much bitterness over a half joking comment ;D

I appreciate that you guys need money to live, but what is the incentive to buy this if it is no different from an already free mod out there?

This. There's this thing called business sense. Selling a product that is almost identical to a product you previously made available for free .... doesn't make much business sense. Nobody is going to give half a shit that the artwork has been marginally updated.

Don't make detailed plans too far ahead, because you'll just end up changing those plans when it comes time. Write a list of tasks, think about how long it'll take you to do it / how important it is, and throw it away if it's not feasible. Also, try the pomodoro method for productivity: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique

Pomodoro is actually really good. The only reason I struggle to use it at work is because I get constantly pestered by other people about stuff, as tends to happen in bigger studios I guess.

It's at Above Audio, same as it has been most years - you need to purchase a ticket this year though (£25 for entry and FREE BAR). It's been totally worth the effort to get in every year I've been

However, this does not mean if you work somewhere "mainstream" you will never work on something original, you have sold your soul, you have no creative power, and you cannot be passionate. I'm having a hard time putting into words how staggeringly off-base this whole depiction is.

No that seems pretty on point to me, based on my experiences.

Remember rob, it has to run at target framerate on console too and optimising the game is hard work!
