I think there's an odd skewing in these top film lists, I tend to think no film should be allowed onto any top 100 list until we can look back at it. There's excitement about the film still, but will we still think it's that good when we look back in five, ten years time? If we don't, it wont move back down IMDB's list.

The Avengers was a great film, action packed with cool effects and humour but it really wasn't top 100 quality.

I mean, better than Last Crusade at 103? Nope.

Better than Up at 109? Nope

Better than Return of the Jedi at 94? Nope.

How about The Thing at 161? Nope.

On an unrelated note whilst watching The Avengers I worked out why I find Scarlett Johansson so ugly. It's her lips, they don't ever move, not at all, not ever and that's just plain weird.

New one from me, something about what KFS said resonated with me, so I tried to use as much white as possible more akin to the original portal.

I don't think this one is as strong as my others.

I thought the gels weren't even added until old-style aperture? I haven't played it in over 6 months though so my memory may be faulty.

What's this stat counter thing? I couldn't access your collection.

Weird, no idea how that got into my copy buffer. correct link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... d=68663625

With regards to portals being used less, I think it's sad but there are two main reasons for it:

    1) We've settled into the idea of what portals are and what they do, so instead of using them as the main puzzle mechanic, they're there as our normal mode of transport

    2) Because other elements are so central to the game, many solutions to puzzles become trivial when you can place portals in more locations.

Also worth noting, the name of the game is potentially quite inappropriate now. The game isn't about portals, it's about Aperture Science. Which I think is way more exciting

Does anyone else feel sort of resentful towards the Perpetual Testing initiative? I feel sort of like it's undermining the efforts of "real" mappers and modders.

I've heard one other person say this, and he's well known for incredibly self-righteous opinions.

So no, because "real" designers use whatever tools they need to achieve a professional end.

I wonder if there is a limit on the size of your map? Also does this produce CO-OP levels?

No co-op support to start with they've said.

I hear BT is delaying the block a little while but I swapped to Google's DNS years back.

I really wish the people who put their content on these sites legitimately had the collective power to fight these ISPs. But I guess the good thing is that the internet is an unstoppable force and pathetic moves like this bother no one who has half their wits about them.

Also laughable on the internet today: The BBC has new guidelines that say employees can't respond to individuals on twitter, or RT. I wonder how long that will last.

    EDIT:

Due to the Streisand effect, TPB's viewings today have risen by 12 million.

Yeah it compiles it but his test chamber is ultra small and the bulk of the interest in his lighting is from the projected texture so it's not surprising it only takes a few seconds.

Didn't it rebuild the map when it was being published? That's probably a final compile with the others being fast or 'normal'.

There was a video showing the whole process including workshop integration and taking the map into hammer but I think it got taken down.

It looks fantastic. It looks like you'll be able to build a fully working chamber (provided you already have a plan) in about 10 minutes. It was very quick jumping back and forth between the editor (which isn't a stand-alone application btw it runs straight from portal 2) and playing it. Then once he was finished there was a publish to friends only or everyone option on the workshop (as well as a local save option of course).

When he downloaded some from the workshop (again, ingame) it took a few moments and then he could play it straight away and as soon as it finished it asked him to rate it, so the good chambers should have absolutely no problems filtering to the top of the workshop.

All in all it looked like a mind blowingly useful tool. It adds perpetual replay value to portal 2, it allows people who have zero concept of level design, hammer or anything technical to create stunning and professional looking test chambers and it allows those who know how to use hammer already a way to prototype levels in literally minutes before being able to do an art-pass or assemble them into a multi-map pack.

I think procedural environment building tools like this have a lot of potential =)

I know, right? I've always been way more interested in systems that build themselves than building them myself. Particularly when they generate those odd ball situations that you'd never make normally.

Only rectangular, on-axis brushes. Any kind of angle stops it working properly (It will make a bunch of brushes along the angle that hammer just doesn't read in, so the end effect is as though it just ignores that face)

It'll do as many brushes as you want so an L shape works, but with some extra supports along the join. That's number 2 on the list of features for summer, right after angled walls as job #1.

Angles is higher priority than L shapes due to my personal mapping style, I always try to use as many angled buildings as possible.
