I watched it. Unfortunately for me, the Earth was also transiting the sun at the same time.
I did get to see the transit 8 years ago though and I see Venus a lot day to day so I'm not too fussed
The good thing about aliens as a sequel is that it's an excellent stand alone movie too. It brings plenty of new stuff to the table and doesn't just repeat the previous.
That's one of the reasons people don't like Prometheus, there was far too much expectation of a direct story continuation (like all of the confusion about the ending leading into alien when really it doesn't really) and there was expectation of style continuation.
Quote from D3adsI forgot to say, Noomi Rapace running around half-naked was hawt, regardless of all the blood and 'slime', got quite a body on her
Yeeeaaah the underwear was all super weird though. The whole belt-across-the-boobs thing is just odd.
I'm just gunna mention fassbender again. The beginning 20 minutes before he woke anyone up, wowser.
Quote from SkjalgI was expecting to be scared. At least for 2 minutes.
The
Quotegiant squid facehugger
did that for me. But the "oh god oh god oh god" tension was wasted
Looks great, but not for a game; this looks like it would be better placed as an animated film than a game.
Quote from Seldoon182.
Back from theater and I second Skacky. I enjoyed the fx and such btw..
I have completely the opposite opinion, film was great, the creature effects sucked ulcerous pustulating ballsacks but all the other effects were great.
The characters were
Quotepoorly fleshed out, Charlie was also kind of a dick so his death which should have been this major dramatic moment was instead a quickly brushed over scene that just had no emotional effect at all other than cementing the already well established fact that the bitch-lady was a bitch. With so many cast members it's hardly surprising that they didn't have any character, they should have halved the crew size. It felt like the only character that was actually worth caring about was the only character not human
The last 30 seconds
Quoteneeds to be cut from the film, I cannot fathom why anyone in the whole production thought it was a good idea. Alien fan service was already done, it was just unnecessary and terribly done, it's jaw changed shape.. what the fuck? Wouldn't have been nearly as bad id it had just growled but the bone-breaking jaw shape change is just a terrible effect used in terrible films, not something I'd expect from a serious film.
As a whole experience,
Quoteit was a bit all over the place with all manner of different creatures and unexplained shit going on (Anything and everything vase-related)
but it was a great film and makes it to #3 in the Alien franchise for me somewhere miles above A3 and A:R but definitely below Aliens (Alien obviously being the best)
Overall, go into it expecting it to be good but not mind blowing and you'll probably not be disappointed.
With regards to the 3D (IMAX at least) it was incredibly well shot and natural feeling, The Hobbit trailer played beforehand was a bit disorientating as it was quite depthy and had lots of quick shot changes with radically different depths but I think the 3D was shot much better for Prometheus and just felt natural and right the whole way through. at no point did they do any waggle shit in front of your face crap and the introductory helicopter shots over landscapes were magnificent. Prometheus in IMAX 3D is a perfect trump card in arguments against 3D naysayers.
EDIT: The ONLY thought going through my mind in that scene with the

was

id move to ruin Doom 3:
Quote"We've tried to find those opportunities that can enhance the gameplay," Willits says. "We didn't have enough ammo in the original. It was too dark. There weren't checkpoint saves. No flashlight. That one was so big, we put it on the sell sheet."
Ammo conservation is part of the game, it should be difficult, it's fucking DOOM.
Again the flashlight or gun mechanic, you can either see or shoot, the ducktape mod just ruined the experience, it turned it from a terrifying game to just a bleh shooter.
Mixed opinions on checkpoint saves though. They're ok as long as they're not too frequent.
The new missions sound kinda cool, I hope there's an option to just buy those, siiince I already have D3 and RoE, I don't really want to pay for them a third time.
Quote from SpronyvanJohnsonDon't forget the epic turret scene that wasn't in the theatrical release!
Wait, so they just didn't have the whole aliens-throw-themselves-at-the-turrets thing?
Was there any of the film in the theatrical version?
Quote from SpronyvanJohnsonWhat is it with Ridley and his Director cuts? Gladiator, crap, Kingdom of heaven, crap, Blade Runner, crap. He should look at Cameron for proper Director cuts.
I never even knew the scene in alien where the family discover the derelict ship wasn't in the theatrical release until about a month ago. I cannot imagine the film without it.
Quote from duxI tried my best, didn't get past the phone interview a few months back.
Man they are tough. The thing is, if I ever got a phone interview or on site interview with valve I'd just shake myself to death with nerves.
I had the weekend to come to terms with it and get ready, I've only had one interview previous and that was retail not game dev so I wasn't nearly at my best, but the areas I fell down in were areas I predicted well in advance. I've not done any single player elements through to completion and I've not done anything significantly pushing boundaries, TF2 isn't exactly out of the box thinking.
I'd love to get into CS:GO design but it's just not different enough from TF2 design for it to be worth my time as a student trying to expand.

Use your existing Valve contacts and wangle a key from them. I'm sure [read] they'd oblige if they're in a position to generate and give out keys.
You should be pro-active and get beta keys from Expos. I've had mine since September. ![]()
Although I don't have much interest in playing or level design for CS:GO. Having never played any CS games before I had certain ideas about how much I would enjoy it (ie, not at all, in fact I expected to hate it) Whilst I hate the standard CS gamemodes, I find arms race quite fun, just not playing on the same map every time.
If I hadn't already decided to work on my own projects this summer I may well have been mapping for arms race. ahhh well.
Quote":3o3bbbo0]Problem with 3D is that you swap sharp detail for depth.
Heaven forbid a movie be actually like real life!!
Interesting to note:
There are apparently problems with the Hobbit's filming, they're filming in 48 fps instead of the usual 24fps and combined with being filmed in 3D there's concern that it's too realistic. Film makers are always trying harder to draw the audience into the world, but the 48 frames 3D seems to be drawing people in so well that they feel like they're on set rather than in Middle Earth.
God damn why does every single alien game ever have the ridged skull aliens, they look so bad compared to smooth skull aliens.
I think this is going on my "If I had a time machine" list, I'd go back and slap whoever thought taking the original casing off the prop was a good idea.
Quote from MazyGot tickets for June 2nd, for once Denmark is showing early :GIt's in 3D tho, derp.
It's not one of those silly 2D conversions though it was at least shot in 3D.
August really? That is some crap there. Back when Up was released the US date was May-something and the UK date was October-something. That's the worst one I've seen in a long time.
Just checked my tickets for the IMAX and I thought I'd bought a 12 noon ticket, turns out I got a 00:01 ticket so I'll effectively be seeing this next Thursday not next Friday. ![]()

I absolutely hated quantum of solace so I'm hoping the new writer and new director can bring us back to a film worth watching. (Something like Casino Royale please!)
That is NEATO
