DLC has changed my policy about buying games. Since games with DLC eventually come out a couple years later packaged with all the previous content for a reduced cost I just wait until that point comes.

Because of that I haven't purchased Dragons Age or Fallout3 yet. I'm patient, I would rather wait for the "whole package" 2 years later than buy it now and incrementally keep up with the addons.

I'm happy though because at the end I get a larger game for less money

I have to keep a very safe distance from the civilization series. I've lost entire weeks playing this.

Definitely in the top 5 games that I've played to a degree that most would deem unhealthy.

Well whatever it was I really enjoyed the demo.

The character animation was surreal, and I hate to say it but I actually kind of liked the QTE method. I noticed that unlike god of war I could watch what was happening rather than just focus on looking at the button icons.

Still not sold on holding down R2 to move forward though. I wonder what the argument behind that is.

":1ktargx0]Exactly. That's one of the things I love about certain PS3 titles, and one of the motives that make me a proud PS3 owner, some titles at least try something inovative, or just simply diferent, instead of commercial hits (Aka cash cows) like some of the xbox games.games like Flower, Afrika, The Eye of Judgment, comes to mind. Sure, some of them suck, but at least they're trying...

    agreed.

Demons souls is probably my favourite game of this generation.

    The scaffolding?

good point. The map lacked identity, I'm slowly moving out towards a bombed out construction zone. I'll try to hold back on the scaffolding

Have been working more on derailed the last few weeks and made some new skybox and map props, mostly scaffolding and collections of buildings. Did a bit of a retexture as well. Schmung also made a crane prop which looks really nice overhanging the map in the skybox. Next thing to do I suppose is to fix the fog and tweak the lighting, I just changed to this skybox and am using the old values. They're fairly close in regards to intensity but the angles are off.

Yeah the game actually looks really fun. I'm looking forward to this one.

Also did Minh Le not also work on a game called Global Operations on the Lithtech engine? It was a looong time ago but I remember reading that in PCGamer or something. I remember playing the demo and it feeling quite similar to CS.

    here's a vid of it

well I just got the big screwgie from this game, apparently it doesnt run on XP

although in retrospect considering where this game came from I'm surprised I didn't assume this would only run on the newest OS.

"Remote island with no internet" sounds scary, where exactly is this place?

it can be I'm pretty sure I've seen the sasquatch

I go up to one of the gulf islands (islands local to Vancouver) to do landscaping every few weeks. There's not much to do there, just brought up my SNES though

When I read the title I assumed he was going to talk about a shift to MMOG's on the PC.

He might be right but I know that personally I'll be dragged into the world of OnLive kicking and screaming. Not a fan of the concept, especially since a fair amount of my gaming is done on a remote island with no internet.

Hi! First time poster here. I'm looking for some critiques of my first model (a tent if you're still wondering) and texture, built in 3ds max for the purpose of becoming a prop. The skin itself is 2048x2048 which I'm not sure is too large for something like this, the transparency map for the skirt (the flaps of cloth hanging off the edges of the top) is missing (forgot to add to compile), I also haven't had the opportunity to create a normal map yet. The skin was my biggest concern because the geometry turned out pretty much how I envisioned it, the cloth texture was difficult for me because I wasn't sure how to add interesting detail to a plain washed out cloth without going overboard on dirt. The blue paint was something I added to help out some with this issue but I didn't want to go overboard on that either. The model is 788 polys and large enough to allow a player to walk in and out with little headroom.Again any critiques are appreciated.

great job for a first model, only thing I'd say is bump the textuer down to 512 or 1024, 2048 seems like WAY too much overkill. I dont think there would be a ton of visual difference if you went down to 512 and you would save 16x texture space.

I think the whole idea of being able to justify modding as school related is a big bonus

I am quite interested in rendering and lighting methods, I've heard there's a bit of a need for that even with the job situation as it is here. I've started studying the Linear Algebra series on youtube as well as take some math and physics classes at night in preparation for college. The option I picked is supposed to focus the most heavily on C++ out of the 7 options the college offers. I have a meeting with one of the program people this week so I'll be sure to ask them if that's true.

    Thanks again for the advice
