i don't think i could do it, i need to be in an office, need to interact and bounce ideas off people. i'm not sure i would grow as quickly as a person/developer/artist without being surrounded by other like-minded people.

That's one of the main reasons I've decided to take a job in an office. I want to see if it helps me grow.

I've been working remotely for about 9 months. It's pretty good because I get pad by the hour so I tend to do large crunches of 12 hours days so I can have 4 day weekends.

You can tend to avoid working on the less fun aspects of a project though. You definitely have to keep that in check. Also exercise becomes really important. I ended up buying an eliptical so I can get 20-30 mins of cardio whenever I need a break. I noticed with a lack of exercise I worked way more inefficiently.

Out of the big engines I still prefer the feeling of multiplayer games on source best. Something about the way they handle their net and input code I suppose.

Anyways what I really want to see is the next Hammer editor

bought the starter pack at the steam sale. I love the skiing stuff, that's really addictive.

I havent played a whole lot yet. I thought some of the outdoor maps were a little barren, but hey it's Tribes

AlexM I'm not sure what the game is, but for vertical combat you might want to stagger the floors (kind of like a pyramid). That way if players fall, they might land on the next floor down, rather than all of the way on the ground, which I assume would mean death. It might also be nice to give those stairways more cover; nobody like fighting on stairways (they're one of the most difficult kinds of choke-points), and you probably won't want to isolate flow to each floor. It really depends on the game, though.

    I hope that helps!

    It does help, thanks

    It's a team-based shooter. Push-based gameplay

Yeah I really like the overall composition and tight interesting shape everywhere. Some of the brushwork is indeed a little chunky.

The boat area almost gives me Banjo Kazooie vibes.

You can get a Bachelor of Computer Science without ever actually really coding. Typically universities are more focused on algorithms but not implementation. Is that the case for you?

yeah they really need the tight levels with hordes of monsters to get the gameplay feeling they have in the original 2 Dooms. They also need little to no NPC's, the solidarity adds to the mood. Finally I would be extra happy if they take from both the space environments to the occult outerworldly-yet-still-on-earth levels like" 'O' of destruction", "The focus", "Tricks and Traps" and "Icon of Sin" (for that last one I'm thinking particularly the area before you teleport to fight the demon head).

...... I have to go play soom doom2 now

    arg seriously?

If that's doom then they really need adrian and john C back. That is so way off it's not even funny.

    I am sad

Nope, Isaac's flash, which is how they managed to make it in two months (or was it four? Maybe that was Terraria). Isaac being flash is also why the controller options is "Google Joy2Key", to the great bemusement of people who expect their $1.25 indie roguelikes to meet their every demand with a curtsy (shitheads, in other words).

So, how the hell are they filling out not one but TWO discs for this release? What, HD video of random people playing the game? The game itself is only 216MB.

I believe the second disc is to give to a friend.

Interesting that they did it in flash. If they already have an adequate 2d c++ framework for Super Meat Boy I wonder why they didnt reuse it. Maybe the coder from SMB wasn't involved in this project.

I mean if you have a decent framework flash isn't a whole lot faster than c++.

Anyways that explains the frame drop I get on a quad core

Heh I hae to admit I'm surprised that it happened. There's some publishing company that's been doing this for smaller games. Terraria is getting a similar release.

IIRC BOI is written in c++. I wouldnt be surprised if they reused parts of the Meatboy tech since they probably had it lying around anyways.
