Awesome, I just finished a new playthrough a couple months back.

I've never even tried any of the sequels. Are they worth playing?

Would it be a good idea to change the topic to "design resources" instead of "design articles" so we can include books and the like?

    I know, I'm being nitpicky :X

today i just played doom coop with co workers... man, we've found a entrance to secret level (e1m9)! i've never saw that level in all these years

    pretty cool!!!

    Awesome. I'm jealous.

If a job advertised "our employees regularly have Doom LAN games" it would make it way more desirable for me.

wow I had no idea it would be so different. I never realized that the chinese room was the developer, i thought it would be a fairly straightforward sequel.

I must admit I'm still playing the original. I took a hiatus until the drycleaner can get the shit out of my pants.

  • Can i use python scripts in UNITY???

    • AlexM
    • September 12, 2013 at 3:13 PM

Using a python interpreter authored in C# seems like it could be a performance issue.

C# is so easy it's usually hard to justify putting a scripting language on top of it unless you wish to update the gameplay code without restarting the game. Even then there are classes in C# to compile c# code on the fly so you could use c# as a scripting language on top of c#

EDIT: I forgot to mention there's also Iron Python.

Ultimately like everyone in this thread, I dont recommend it. Just use one of the existing Unity code paths.

    Thanks

Forgot to mention but it's also audio aware. So those orange flashes on the second on are occurrences of a bass beat being detected. Eventually the idea is to make the system music-reactive.

That said my beat detector code is crap right now and barely works. I have to implement something far more robust than what I have now (I need to consider the history of the song rather than the exact moment).

Bjarne Stroustroup - The Design and Evolution of C++

A historical perspective on how the C++ language was designed, what was dropped from the spec and why certain things are the way they are.

Apparently they used to have post-ctor init methods and pre-dtor cleanup methods. I implement those a lot myself. would have been great if they were a language feature.
