Decided to spend my first bit of time off with the unreal engine sub

wow so far it's pretty awesome, especially considering the last time I used it was about 10+ years ago on the original unreal.

Do I have to buy it again to get these updates? I really enjoyed the original and think the game is very underrated

I'm not sure if that's actually been figured out yet. I'm not too up to date on the business end of things.

Hardware-wise it pretty much is a PC but then again that was true with the original Xbox

Quite a bit has changed. The rendering pipeline for instance has been updated to support stuff like irradiance mapping which looks really good. After looking at it for so long it's hard to look at the old version now.

Of course the artists have been working hard doing new assets to take advantage of all that extra vram on the consoles

I've been told I'm allowed to talk about the game I've been developing as of today. I'm super proud of the work done on this game.

This is best development team I've ever worked with. We have a ton of longtime veterans working here and they've been really open to teaching me new things and helping me improve. My 6 months here have been way more educational than my entire college education. Having such a great team made it a lot easier to work these crazy hours to make our milestones. I'm a little tired and loopy right now but it looks like I'll be able to take this weekend off to recover

Here's some game screens for SDDE

One reason I suspect companies are doing this is because of the requirements and technical specs related to the new consoles. This is a great way to test the waters and see what issues might arise when developing for these new consoles.

Yeah at that point dark souls was a pretty good investment. If you all remember demons souls was very stupidly dropped by Sony. If they hadn't done that it probably would still be exclusive to their system and they would have had a major selling point during the ps3 vs xb360 era.

Also a note on tomb raider. It would have most likely made a profit if they hadn't spent so much money on things that dont matter like paying exorbitant amount of money to celebrities to do voice acting and mocap. Seriously, the people who made those decisions must be so disconnected from reality. I don't notice celebrities in games and I certainly don't care.

Just saw it yesterday because a buddy at work brought in his xboxone so he could play some limited time mission. The game contrast/color is really nice. It must have been hard to make all that art cross-gen compatible.

He did hop on a hover bike though and that brought a lot of halo vibes

Havent had a lot of time to work on jams due to my real job but I did do a 3 hour jam last weekend:

    [Blocked Image: http://levelism.com/wp-content/upl…ouropposite.png]

The theme of this jam was "opposite"

I'm gonna put a few more hours into it and make the game I would have liked to make if I had more than 3 hours. I have a musician who made me some tracks for this and it's helped tremendously.

You can play the 3 hour version here (html5) :

With credentials like that he must be insanely good at what he does. He's the kind of guy I would annoy to death with all my questions about different rendering methods and their tradeoffs/performance benefits.

I'd love to see a doom/doombuilder competition at some point

Out of those choices I'd probably go with the following in order

    1)Source

2)Unity w/Probuilder (maybe this isn't really feasible, the demo is missing some features)

3)UE4 (problem with this is you have to pay)

Sorry to hear that man. I did that with my cat when I was about 17 and it still sticks with me. I'm glad I was there though, the vet wouldn't let me in until I threw a fit about it.
