  • Can anyone living in Hungary do me a favor?

Hey all. I'm working towards getting my hungarian citizenship recognized (my grandparents are hungarian) so I can land a job in the EU more easily.

There's where my problem lies, it'll likely take about a month for all the paperwork to be processed, but it can take anywhere from 6 months to a whole 12 months before I receive the documents here in Brazil. This is due to the way the Hungarian and Brazillian consulates work, every 6 months a courier will travel from one country to the other with the documents. I'm not in a real hurry to get this done, but waiting a whole year is a bit too much.

So my plan is to make a visit to Hungary somewhere between march and july to drop off the paperwork directly in Budapest. All I would need then is for a friend, preferably someone residing in Budapest, to allow me to use their address as my mailing address. This way there's no need for me to wait until the courier decides to come to Brazil.

So if you are living in Hungary (most likely Budapest) and don't mind giving me a hand, I would appreciate it a lot.

Also anyone who neglects their friends due to a videogame just needs to be removed from the genepool imho.. what the fuck?!

I agree in part, but you gotta remember that he has friends on the game as well. When I was playing Guild Wars I had a group of around 10 people whom I played a lot, they where (and still are) good friends to me. We talked about the game, but also about other subjects and our lives.

While I've watched my cousin playing CoD and his relationships in the game don't go over the "FAG", "NOOB", "CHEATER", and I know that the vast majority of online games stop at that level, there are true friendships and relationships to be found inside games and gaming communities.

That guy may look like a loser by himself in front of the PC, but you have to consider hat maybe, just maybe, there's more to it than it looks.

    Also, from the Panorama website:

    Quote

    • Check the content of the gaming activity. Try and give children and adolescents games that are educational rather than violent. Parents usually have control over what their kids watch on television - gaming should be no different.• Try to encourage gaming in groups rather than as a solitary activity. This will lead to children and adolescents talking and working together. Also remember that many online games are based on social activity and working together. Research has consistently shown that the main reason for playing online games is for the social element.

    • Set limits on playing time. Tell children and adolescents that they can play for a couple of hours as a reward after they have done their homework or their chores - not before.

    • Parents and guardians should always get their children to follow the recommendations by the game manufacturers and/or the service providers (e.g., sit at least two feet from the screen, play games in a well-lit room, never have the screen at maximum brightness, and never engage in gaming when already feeling tired).

    • Finally, if all else fails, ban gaming temporarily and then, when you feel it is appropriate, allow them to play again on a part-time basis.

I'm concerned that people may only listen to what they want to, but overall it was an informative and truthful piece.

I consider myself a very active gamer, but I don't have an addictive personality, never did. I find enjoyment in my games, but even when I was playing Guild Wars (MMO) I wasn't putting more than 4 to 5 hours a day, and definitely not playing it every day. I can safely say that Videogames had a very positive impact in my life, strengthened the bonds with my family and friends even becoming my job. I wish he could have explored just a little bit more of the positive aspects of gaming, but that's just me.

But I agree that we, as an industry, should be more self aware and informative of the possibility of game addiction. Especially if we want to remain relatively free of regulations and prejudice from the mass media. But I can't see it happening anytime soon, WoW, CoD and Farmville are just too profitable at the moment ¬¬

We are talking about BOPE here. I'm pretty sure they have all the equipment they need at their disposal. It may just be a tactical choice indeed.

I wouldn't be so sure of that Min0. They may even have enough to fully outfit 20 to 40 agents, but the operation had 150 BOPE agents, and they may have spread their resources thin for that. Most likely these images are not of the front line confrontations, where their best gear would be in use.

They can't just really afford helmets and vest afaik.

    Exactly.

We have been building a specialized force ready to take on this kind of conflict for years now, but there is still a lot of ground to go. If you look closely, no vests, no helmets, barely any radios or comm devices either.

From Wikipedia "A favela is the generally used term for a shanty town in Brazil." They are maze-like settlements with a lot of vertical spaces and narrow corridors, in Rio most of them are located in hillsides and mountains, making it all the more difficult to navigate.

Having lived in Rio for about 10 years I can say that when shit gets like this it's really scary to go out. Their standard reaction to any government or police major action is to barricade the favela entrances, sometimes with makeshift barricades of burning tires and stolen vehicles. This time they even installed iron bars sunk deep in the pavement to prevent the light armored cars of getting close to the favelas. The favelas themselves are mazes and they can easily block passages with rubble and burning tires.

The worst part however is their terror tactics to scare the populace and scatter police action. They burn buses and cars around the city in independent strike teams. Plant explosives around the city as well as robbing and enforcing lockdowns on specific areas closer to the favelas. On the favelas themselves they are like a dictatorial second power that can take away your belongings and your family in any way they need.

And their numbers... god from watching the footage from today's operation, seeing the drug dealers escape in a neighbor favela. I never really realized how bad it was until today.

Right now Police are going to hold their territory and try to hunt down the drug dealers, and I'm sure that tactical squads are making surgical strikes tonight. I just hope they can put a real hurt to their numbers and infra-structure before the human costs of this war build up enough and forces the police to back down.

It's still going on, the drug dealer army (quite literary) took refuge on an allied slum.

I'm not sure what is going to happen now, if the police will keep the pressure on and hunt them down we could be facing a severe civilian casualty rate as it's very hard tofight in the slums.

The Police in Rio entered a heavily fortified slum in an effort to apprehend drug gang leaders they blame for days of widespread violence in the city. Officers from an elite unit of Rio's police department with support of navy seals armored vehicles made it into the Vila Cruzeiro slum despite efforts by drug gangs to block access with burning vehicles.

Shit just got real over there. To see the amount of weaponry and manpower the drug dealers have at their disposal is scary.

Given that the last CoD had a mission in Rio, it reminded me of this kotaku article from yesterday.

Borderlands is a great game to play with friends. And the music of the game is just fabulous.

Oh I'm loving it, I play the Tank with a sniper Siren, so I'm free to charge ahead and grab the enemies under her scope while I teach them a new concept of what happens when concentrated power meets sensible areas.

The Tank's berserk scream and laughs are viciously exhilarating, I get an adrenaline rush every time I activate the skill, It's pretty awesome!

I'm not sure if I agree with the decision to make the player stop when reaching a bonus multiplier but overall I think you did well with the little time you had.

Yeah, that was part miscommunication with the animators and part promises kept to the client that we did not have time to discuss.

For those of you interested, here is a game I worked on developed in Unity here at Aquiris. Our development happened from concept to final product in under a month, it was me as a designer, two artists and one programmer.

Despite being an advergame, I made sure that it was as fun and challenging as I could make with one week of prototyping and one week of playtesting. It turned out pretty OK, but judge it yourselves

Click on "Pular" to skip the video, then on "Jogar" to play the game. You will need to install Unity web player if you don't already have it.

That video is of an old build, we had to release something for them to make the advertisements. The game is much more polished than it shows there.

The game is to be a side scrolling platformer. The instructions (in portuguese) are:

    • [*:pajylymq]Complete the course in the least amount of time, accumulating as many point as you can.
[*:pajylymq]Use arrow keys to move sideways, space bar to jump.
[*:pajylymq]Grab as many chocolate drops and pots as you can. When you get fill up the bar at the top you get a bonus multiplier!

You can log in with your facebook account in the end. The top ranking player will earn a car for a prize, and the other top scores will also earn minor prizes, this only applies to Brazilians though.

By the way, my personal top score is 2756 points. See if you can beat me on my own game! (It's already been done, but I cannot disclose the top score, it's secret!)

    Hope you guys enjoy it!
