I've got about 600MB worth of shit in my Filefront account, mostly videos. Used to be way more but ever since Underground Gamer took over they've been deleting videos with low view counts so some of my shit is already lost forever except in Youtube quality.

I suppose FPSBanana and moddb are going to be swamped now

Filefront is moddb's primary file host. They rarely host things on their own. They pretty much stick to Filefront and Fileshack anymore.

FPSBanana's community is horrible. Site's not too bad but the crowd, sheesh!

They just wrapped up a live press conference from GDC, I watched it online on Gamespot, and I feel substantially stupider for sitting through their mountains of technobabble bullshit. These assholes clearly have no idea what they're talking about, what their claims are, or how the internet or computers work.

The broadband and bandwidth requirements are too high, the lag's gonna be a bitch, and I bet it costs an arm and a leg and half your torso.

I thought they had fucked up somewhere and included UT3 footage in the first part of that trailer.

First day purchase for sure just because of that editor.

Is RAGE set on a terraformed Mars or something? The terrain sure looks Mars-ish.

It's in GTA boxart style, which generally the ingame stuff doesn't resemble.

But Max + beard is an unnerving concept anyway

no i'm not comparing two companies, i'm comparing ways companies do things when theyre taken over/bought up/outsourced. i don't think i have seen a single successful overtaking of an ip from one studio to another (apart from COD, but those things are so disjointed i would be surprised if they could manage to screw that up).

Shiny managed to recreate Max Payne's gameplay to a tee with Enter the Matrix (though fucked it up with a buggy as hell game with horrible driving sections). MP3 will not be a Fallout 3.

Feel free to be as pessimistic as you want about the story, I'm right there with you, but gameplay (as a comparison to Fallout 3 would suggest) doesn't really have any merit, because Max is an easy concept. You run around in third person, you shoot stuff, you can use bullet time. Dead simple.

You're comparing Rockstar to Bethesda. I don't have a clue why, there's no precedent for Rockstar doing anything like what Bethesda did with Fallout 3. Third person shooter isn't some new untouched genre for them, and they were directly involved in the most recent game in the series.

do you know the difference between publisher and developer? because, you know, remedy entertainment developed both games.

You're the one comparing the actions of a developer to the actions of a publisher.

I dunno where your comment even comes from. Is there some historical precedent for Rockstar Rockstaring up someone else's IP ala Fallout 3?

Bethesda's a pretty unique developer in a lot of ways.

they wont do it right and Remedy aren't making it so it's automatically fail

It's less that Remedy isn't developing it and more that Sam Lake isn't WRITING it. There's almost no chance they'll fuck up the gameplay, but the plot? ...

You do realize Rockstar published Max Payne 2 as well, right? And they've made non-GTA style games, unlike Bethesda and Oblivion style games? Manhunt, Table Tennis, Max Payne, etc?

Didn't they already announce and then abandon MP3 once already?

Plus if you wanna get pedantic MP2's ending credits announce MP3.

I like Max Payne and would gladly play another if it was made as well as MP2. There's nothing inherently wrong with a sequel or continuation of an old IP. New IPs are nice but that doesn't mean you should decry every single sequel.

When I was a kid I always played and bought far more games in the summer than any other time since that was when I had more free time.

Plus my birthday (and thus birthday money) was in the summer, so that probably helped.

I most certainly didn't, my point was along the same lines as yours.

Did Fallout 3 "underperform"? I didn't hear anything bad about that.

that's because the cater to different audiences.

No, not really, both are mature violent action games. They're not completely the same but in a venn diagram of the two there's a huge overlap.

People don't have a problem buying TWO WHOLE VIDEOGAMES within the same time span of each other, especially when both are AAA "must have" products. It's the little guys, the ones seen as a possible risk to purchase, that suffer from this kind of competition.
