This disturbs me as a license regardless of content. It's like making a Friday the 13th videogame where you murder countless hordes of throwaway Jasons.

More like gentle mocking. It's a Wolfenstein, it CAN'T not be at the very least fun pulp entertainment, but there are some nits to pick for everything, and it's just as much if not moreso a bad habit to get offended by nit picking over small stuff than it is to do so.

  • Zombies in gaming?

It's annoying that we're getting such a glut of zombies in games recently that people are starting to get tired of them, because nobody has made the zombie game I want yet, the hardcore zombie apocalypse survival sim. D:

Are they sure this isn't a prequel? BJ seems a lot younger and cocksure than in RtcW, where he was more grizzled and stoic. This BJ seems to have seen one too many Indiana Jones movies.

  • Character Customization

I love kitting out my character to start a new game, with different skills or starting equipment or whatever. Stuff like assigning skill points at the start of a new Deus Ex game, or building a whole avatar in Morrowind/Oblivion, or as simple as choosing one of three basic builds in Shadowrun. Gameplay stuff. Visual customization I'm ambivalent on. It can be neat if it's done right, and concise, but I don't want to spend 20 minutes fucking with sliders and options in Oblivion or Sims to get the guy looking "right". I've always liked Deus Ex's amazingly simple yet broad visual customization- you've got a bunch of racial skins to choose from, including the ultra rare for gaming "Mexican" and "Albino" skins.

Fallout 3 really surprised me. I went in expecting to really dislike it, but I think it does show that a PC style RPG can be done properly on a console without feeling gimped.

The last time I heard someone discuss platforms for Fallout 3, they said they got a new PC and switched from 360 to PC for it, and it was like night and day. He said he missed having a M&KB so much with it.

I remember I played Morrowind first on the Xbox and found it kinda stiff and annoying, though I couldn't really place what the problem was, and then when I got it on PC I loved it. Everything was so much easier and simpler to use when you have a mouse to work menu screens!

Deus Ex and Civ 4 BTS.

Beat The Nameless Mod a couple weeks ago. Good stuff. Ending level kinda sucks but then the exact same complaints apply to the final area of DX itself. Took 21 hours for a single playthrough and there's a whole nothing main quest to play through, waiting for the second patch to be released before I start on that.

Beat Chinatown Wars recently, too. It was really good for a DS game, but the main quest is super short, and the top-down view really hampers my ability to recognize areas of the city and visually identify things, which makes exploring for drug dealers, the hidden statues, side quests etc. annoying and not really worth it. I'll still occasionally start it up and go on a rampage but that's it. While it lasted the quests were really, really fun.

I've got a Thief 2 play currently postponed but I intend on finishing it sooner or later. I just finished the bank mission.

I am looking into doing a big survey on this since I got the software for it anyhow from last time.So. The survey would focus on amateurs and professionals and how they look at overtime, crunch, and the regular working hours.

Any ideas for questions? I already got a whole list but I want to know what others would like to see asked. Especially for amateurs, how they expect their job to be? I only got three questions for them yet so I need some more so we can get a view on how the developers of tomorrow see their job.

    Help me out.

Questions about putting up with not getting paid at all for overtime work hours, and how much shit you'd swallow before looking for a new job, because those are the two issues that strike me, personally, as a current amateur. Last time I put in long hours without getting paid for them, it was only because I was working with a pretty girl at a sales company that I really wanted to get.

In fact, now that I think about it, I spent more money on that fucking job than I ever earned from it....

    Goddamnit.

Life lesson learned, I suppose. Never be a door to door salesman.

US patent law has a lot of bullshit. The patent office seems to just accept everything and let the courts and lawyers figure out what's actually right or not. Lots of patenting really vague generic shit, lots of constant grandfathering of copyright lengths (fuck you Disney), etc.

Really weird on the MS bar thing. I can't help but wonder what higher-up somehow completely didn't notice construction, staff, paying for, and managing a full bar on-site until the day before it was supposed to open, then was so offended by the concept that they killed it completely, refusing to even turn it into an alcohol free restaurant.

Where i work, the overtime hours are also unpaid and compensated into vacations time, although once you've done too many crunch hours, they don't let you come to work.

Completely unpaid? Or no extra pay? Because not even getting your normal salary would cause me, personally, to not come in at all. If you're gonna work for free, might as well do something you have a personal investment in in your own time.

The scale and blur make it look like I'm looking at miniatures, instead of regular sized things from high up. Is that intentional?

I saw someone say "Learn some texturing" as a recommendation. How exactly does one do that? I was under the impression that while there's a lot of mechanical stuff, knowing how to shop, knowing about the formats and sizes and different layers and stuff, the core thing for making a texture is an artistic skill.

I haven't played a COD game since COD2, which I didn't like as much as COD1 because it ends at a random point without any real climax or satisfaction and doesn't have anything quite as epic as COD1's Russian campaign intro. I will say though that COD2's pretty much the only game with health regen that felt right to me. Halo and its clones just feel fucked up with how they do it. It encourages you to camp between encounters, passively recharging health instead of actively finding a source of healing, with no "reward" for doing well in a fight, with "barely surviving" and "Killing everybody without a scratch" equating to the same result, and just way oversimplifies things. COD however had it work in a way that just felt natural, and it make the harder difficulties far less hair-pulling frustrating (Veteran in COD1 removes all health kit respawns and pretty much the minimum damage you can take from one bullet is 90%).

My computer wasn't leet enough to play COD4 when it came out.

The visual style of that teaser makes me how I get something like that in the actual game to use, like a directional mic I point at a door and it visualizes what's on the other side by sound or something. It looks totally awesome.
