Pretty sure that's because that's an RC car. The Game Informer preview mentioned you have a mechanic skill, and you can find blueprints and parts to build shit. One of the early things you get to build are remote bomb RC cars.

You know, Alex (the thread starter) asked me before hand if he should post his idea he's been working on here, and wondered if he would get flamed or shot down. I said, "No, they are a very mature game design community and are actually very nice" Real fucking great, guys

Your friend doesn't appear to have done any actual work himself outside coming up with a name and engine, making the site, and then spamming this topic across a bunch of different game forums. It's a 2d adventure game, which doesn't align with the skills of most of here on Mapcore, nor our interests most likely (I like 2d adventure games just fine when they're good, but I suspect I'm in the minority here). The OP is mostly the exact same thing I saw written on his topic on Something Awful. This sort of concept is not old at all, and he offers nothing unique to make people want to join this project as opposed to any other.

Not expecting this thread to get shot down is honestly pretty dumb.

Also "very mature game design community"

I've never seen an AGS game of a scope that couldn't be fully realized by one single person working on it. Maybe two if you can't find public domain/freely released music to match your stuff.

Do you really need a community to make an AGS game. I mean, seriously. It's an AGS game. It's like barely a step up from asking people to build interactive fiction as a community.

    First, read this.

“[The] PC being the gaming platform that it is, someone with a $4,000 high-end system would definitely be able to play the Euphoria, the DMM and really technical elements of the game. But someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn’t be the same game. On the other hand if we made that game for as many people as possible, because we are trying to make mass market games, something that everybody can enjoy, well then it’s not taking advantage of what those $4,000 systems can do. So one way or the other depending on how you build that lead PC SKU, it’s not going to be for the same amount of people, it’s going to be not as good or only for a select few people.”

    Now, this.

Man, shit sure changed fast at Lucasarts lately, huh? $4000 PCs for everybody!

If you're playing with a mouse and keyboard, you'll also need to work around the onscreen button prompts, which assume you're playing with an Xbox 360 controller.

    Unforgivable.

I hear good things about Rearmed, though. The trailer on Steam's pretty badass.

This was kinda already done, with Mount and Blade. During development, they were constantly selling the game at a reduced price in exchange for alpha/beta access. The input and bug reports from these early adopters shaped the game throughout development until the final release this year, and that money is what kept the developers (two people living together somewhere in Europe afaik ) for the extent of the development time.

Minecraft is also following this same idea, right now it's in alpha and you can buy it for ~$15, I think, to support the development and get early access to features. It's already sold a few hundred copies too, and it's still in early alpha and the only customer exclusive feature from the free version is being able to import a custom skin for your character to look unique in MP. People are buying it just to support an awesome game idea they want to see finished.

Edit: I suppose Dwarf Fortress counts too, that's still called an alpha by Toady One, who lives entirely off the donations given by DF fans. I think most people just expect what's already there to be all they get though, and future patches and updates are more like Team Fortress 2 character packs than progress towards a finished game.

I like UE's controls. I dunno if UE3 is worse though, never got a chance to use it, I've used UE1 and 2, and 2 was a bit worse than 1 while improving on some things, for example in UE2 they cut the ability to use math symbols in the units settings when creating a brush. In UE1 I can set a box's width as "1024*8-16" and it'll work and give me an 8176 units wide brush, but UE2 I'd have to go to windows calculator, type that in, and get that number, and enter that number directly in the setting, or worse, do mental math while mapping and trying to be creative (THE HORROR).

I tried using gtk radiant once, didn't get the hang of it and quickly gave up. Took to Hammer like a fish to water though, so I guess the difference is just availability of good tutorials. I learned how to use UnrealEd back in the day with nothing more than fucking around in it and a single page .txt file that explained to me what the buttons were and that I had to add a player start icon and then rebuild the map before I could play it (Before that I was just messing around in it and found that whenever I tried to actually play my map I'd instantly die, which is why I went looking for instructions in the first place).

The "This Generation" part of the article title is pretty much BS, considering they list Deus Ex under the Unreal Engine's games.

Also Rockstar's RAGE looks like crap! All its good features are middleware from other companies!

updates that came along the orangebox allows you to scale models in hammer now

But can you change fatness as well?

Man, I miss unreal. Being able to finely customize the drawscale and fatness and assign any attribute and any texture to any character or model made for some really neat improv ways of creating "new" things. My personal favorite was in Deus Ex, taking a vacuum bot, blowing it up to 5x size and greatly increasing the fatness, upping the collision cylinder radius to compensate, then giving it Botrocket and botmachinegun weapons and aggressive towards the player AI. Boom, custom hover tank!

I like Minecraft a lot and can't wait till it's out of alpha, cause right now it's just about the worst optimization ever. A game that literally looks worse than doom runs at 10 FPS on my machine and on others runs so fast that it badly overheats their gpus.

Yup.. you can play as a dog.. and pretty much any other animal as well

    .

Can you do this in multiplayer? Can the dog bite? Can you be like a stealth killer dog? I must know.
