I think a change between free to payed without an actual content change for the map, just a popularity benchmark, would piss users off even more. They'd end up favoring the stock maps since they know there won't be a point down the line where suddenly they have to shell out to keep playing that same map they've had on their hard drive for a couple months.

I suppose this couldn't be too bad if it had a) Creator profiles so you could search by the maker of a map you liked, including maybe an info button ingame, so if I'm playing a good map I don't recognize online I can easily find its name, author, more stuff he's done, and maybe even give it a rating ingame, b) Search by price so you can get the free maps easily, and c) User ratings and reviews, again, with search by rating. Worthless, overpriced maps just won't get played, won't get reviewed, and won't clutter up the place when you look for free content, while the best stuff will get reviewed, and their creators will get recognized so their more in depth, payed stuff would get a chance.

Of course, I think the biggest hurdle for the payed maps is I'm pretty sure, at least anecdotally from my experience, most people playing online games get custom maps through automatic server downloads when they're playing a server running a map they don't have. That's not an option for the non-free maps (probably).

On the plus side, a much better replacement won't run you for very much at all these days.

What's your graphics card? Did this just start randomly one day or did it happen after an event such as upgrading your drivers? Did you leave your computer on while you were at camp? Was there anyone else around who could've been using your computer? Is it on a surge protector?

Basic stuff I have heard similar complaints in the past about NVidia graphics drivers causing a ton of problems a couple generations ago, a friend of mine couldn't get his Geforce 7 to work at all without some ooooold old legacy drivers, anything remotely modern at the time wouldn't work.

What's the best way to build a portfolio? I don't mean in content, but rather the actual web site/page/whatever showing off your work. I see a lot of the time, when someone posts a portfolio link and asks for critique, at least half of the comments tend to be about the site design instead of content. What's a good hosting solution, is a blogspot or ISP web space page acceptable, do the actual people making hiring decisions care as much as the internet seems to, etc.

I can only comment on what I've actually played, obviously. The only Star Wars game I've ever gotten was on the N64.

Not an entirely convincing review from what was said. Raven seem to be going downhill a bit?

Raven's games never seem to follow a set "bad to good" or "Good to bad" curve as they become available. They just waver around good to decent, occasionally, like Soldier of Fortune 2, dipping to mediocre.

From what I've heard some of it is mantling and climbing things, but some of it is also for example running and sliding on the floor under an obstacle or past danger, or close quarters things with enemies. I think one of the main reasons they're not letting you shoot is they're using where you look to control the automatic acrobatic thing- run towards a table and look down and you'll slide underneath it, look up and you'll jump on top and keep running, etc. There's no reason that on a mouse where you can quickly switch between pointing where you want to go and pointing at an enemy's head you can't have the control do both though, which is why I'm hopping for modded versions once it's released that let you shoot while using action stuff, or at least the action stuff that leaves your hands free.

To me that's a weird expectation to have; the sprint bar is a reasonable concern but at what point are you going to even be able to aim (let alone shoot) while vaulting over and around things, and how is this different than any other game that allows such moves?

I was basically expecting Brink to be a commercial version of Action Half-life.

It'll start out ridiculous, but it'll probably stabilise itself after a while like with anything. Kind of like how Xbox LIVE is okay now, rather than like its horse armour days.

Xbox live's prices are typically designed by people at least smart enough to be in a business. At least for Starcraft 1's map editor, that required significantly less common sense to run. Everything I've seen on the internet tells me that the average joe is fucking horrible at economics. Ever examine the auction house prices on a typical MMO? Full to the brim of people either determined to undercut the lowest guy, who was undercutting the second lowest guy, who was undercutting the third lowest guy etc etc etc, and people pricing their stuff significantly higher than average trusting that eventually somebody somewhere will end up buying that item at that price for whatever reason.

I lost a lot of my enthusiasm for this when I found doing acrobatics is limited by a sprint bar and you can't shoot while doing it, it's only for dodging and finding shortcuts essentially. If there are modded servers with higher player counts and shooting while doing crazy shit enabled, and the basic game is good, then I'll get enthused again.

How are they gonna filter that custom map store content? Because if it's just a free market, map makers deciding on their own what they're gonna charge for what, I can see it totally ruining any custom mapping community as people full of themselves flood it with $10 piles of shit and gimmicks.

Right now, looking at that image a second time, I'm actually trying to imagine a guy in the second suit holding a rifle with both hands, and I can't. It's just physically too bulky to support the pose. It doesn't help that the black/grey parts of the second suit look like hardened inflexible plastic, while on the first suit it looks like flexible rubber.

Most impressive video of the actual gameplay I've seen yet. I wanted to cry when they get to the old growth forest midway through the video and it looks fucking jaw dropping and the guy says "This is from a game no longer in production at Crytek..." GODDAMN FUCK YOUR FUCKING JUNGLES LET ME PLAY IN THAT FUCKING FOREST FUCKING CRYTEK YOU ASSHOLES

Apparently, id/Activision are admitting the troubled state of Wolf MP and are asking for suggestions:http://www.wolfenstein.com/board/viewto ... =16&t=1191

I'd want to know their reasoning for why the MP turned out the way it did and why it wasn't just a remake of the extremely popular MP from the previous games. Otherwise my suggestion would be "Remake ET"

Agreed, try and give this weeks ListenUP a second change tho. Ive veen listening to 1up yours and now this for about 3 years now and its become this thing i really look forward to each week. Still not as great as 1up yours at its peak, but i still Think its pretty damn good.

I listened again and this time he referred to some Madden features as a "Trail of Tears".

There is no facepalm big enough, I'm ashamed this guy has the same general hobby as I do.
