Fucking Hell, people can bitch all they like about the multiplayer being "bad" but if anyone complains about the single-player experience then they need to die... that was fucking awesome!

I watched a video of the tutorial and first two levels and it might as well have been an on-rails light-gun shooter, for all the choice the player had in actually playing. Heh.

"Stand still and shoot those guys!" "Get driven around on the back a humvee and shoot those guys!" "Follow those guys into a building and shoot those other guys!" "Oscar mike actually hooah motherfuckers!"

Do you think people would be happier if they just released CoD4 as the PC version's multiplayer?

This is basically exactly what everyone wants. Just take CoD4's MP and stick in the new weapons and special effects like the tactical nuke, and boom, everyone's happy.

Personally, I'd prefer CoD1's multiplayer, I'm in the same boat as Izuno. The absolute newest MP game I've played and liked would be TF2, and that was mostly thanks to the community I gamed with. Ignoring meta-game stuff like that, I liked DoD and Wolf:ET a lot more.

Also, holy shit lol at this.

haha true, I remember the pc sales for modern warfare were laughably low compared to console versions anyway =).

The PC version sold nearly two million units. A fourth the 360 sales, but it's still TWO MILLION UNITS. I'm pretty sure Activision shareholders would eat them alive if they deliberately threw away all those profits, instead of just obtusely hurting them through mismanagement and the worst PR campaign in history

Speaking of bad PR, here's the transcript of that chat the screenshot I posted earlier was from.

This right here is just about enough to make me rage like the worst trolls on this issue. What the christ is with console developers and FOV options? When you're playing a console game, you're sitting back from the screen on a couch. When you're playing a PC game, you're sitting a foot from a widescreen monitor right in front of you. The same FOV for one DOES NOT work in the other! It's not even like changing it is something difficult to do, since that's how most zoom-in/iron sight functions work in games. Not giving the player the option to change it is just a lazy, thoughtless oversight that makes it seem like you don't care about people enjoying your game.

And that answer is just smug as anything. Considering earlier today I was reading Travis Baldree sincerely apologizing to the few Torchlight players who have experienced bugs, to go right to this is pretty harsh.

P.S. Here is a fun little snippet from Kotaku for Rick: http://kotaku.com/5391324/dedicated-ser ... tor-either

Weird that the dude frames it like the only options are peer to peer multiplayer or developer/publisher hosted servers. I don't need you to host the game for me, dawg, that's cool. Just release a dedicated server client, and fans'll take care of that.

Of course, while apparently AVP multiplayer is a big deal I owned AvP gold for years before ever even noticing it had multiplayer. I was way more interested in the awesome SP.

This is honestly a brilliant business move, charging more for the strategy guide version with Achievement info, because you know there's a big crowd that'll go nuts for that sort of stuff.

You know, I wonder why strategy guides still exist, though. How can they compete with what's freely posted on the internet? I haven't bought a strategy guide since Ocarina of Time.

    No Dedicated servers.

Can someone tell me what the appeal of these are again? As I remember them you click through a huge list of **Faty Mc Fats 1337 sever "House of whip ass"** and try to hook up on TS and tell your buddy"...No no.. whip ass...not wipe ass". I have been in the same CS clan for 4-5 years now and yeah having a set IP with all your buddies in it to play was great but again you can set that same thing up with private servers and Steam groups.

If you go into regular match making it looks at your connection, find others that have a good connection and hooks you up. We use a skill number as well to help balance the teams.

On top of all that your clan won't have to rent/buy an expensive sever ( dice ).

**Faty Mc Fats 1337 sever "House of whip ass"** supports a whole lot more players than a player hosted game, almost always has better ping, will always be there with a regular community built around it if it's good. It also likely has server admins who can kick cheaters or people exploiting crap or mic spamming or whatever.

Also with Steam Friends integration you can right click on your buddy's name and click the "Join game" or "View Server Info" options, no need to manually search for something your friend's describing in the server browser. Plus, once you've found it and liked it, you can favorite it, and it'll always be there.

A dedicated server has the appeal of community and regularity, which is the single biggest attraction. Matchmaking feels impersonal and temporary. Your chances to play with the same person online on multiple separate occasions to get to know them and add them to your friends list is greatly diminished, compared to the chance of you ending up being a regular on a server with other regulars, which helps build relationships with other gamers

I agree with Furyo that we shouldn't be insulting each other or ranting from soap boxes or whatever, but dude, if you don't see the appeal of consistent server environments then you're way out of touch with the advantages of PC multiplayer. I played TF2 nearly every day for almost a year and a half from when I got it, and 99% of those games were on the same group of servers, the "Lost Continent" Something Awful servers. If I didn't have that community to go to every time I felt like playing, that I mostly knew and enjoyed, playing in an environment that I knew always had an admin or two on, and had a strict "no shithead" policy, the attraction of TF2 would've been nowhere near as high.

Pathologic IS intentionally meaningful, though. It's a spoiler to say what the meaning is, though. Suffice to say, it has a message about how you, the player, treat videogame characters.

I don't think I've ever played a game where "fun" and "Meaningful" existed together, though the two types of games certainly each share their merits. I don't begrudge Pathologic refusing to entertain me.

All versions of MW2 PC tie into Steam. I dunno exactly if Steam is the only DRM or what, but all of them have to be activated in Steam for sure.

  • Unreal engine 3 for consumers? WTF ?

    I'm extremely skeptical of this.

Also if it is true, and everything we're hoping for, this so hurt homebrew engine making, and that's not exactly a popular pass-time to begin with. How are we going to get the next John Carmack or Tim Sweeney if everyone is using Unreal!? Guys, from a commercial perspective, anything this controversial would probably never even get made. When you're that big and have Walmart and Best Buy that can decide not to store your product on their shelves because of the bad brand image it would give them, you can be certain no publisher will let something that gratuitous take place. And before you take GTA as the counter example, remember that the biggest controversy there ever was was over modded content that was locked to anyone not unlocking it.

Activision managed to "convince" the Australian ratings board not to ban the game, I'm sure they can "convince" Wal-mart to stock the game.

I wrote out a big paragraph and now, looking at it, I can't be bothered with it.So I will just say: It's a game, put your vagina away. People had reactions to grand theft auto 1 and postal 1 when you could run around and kill anyone. This is the same thing in a different presentation. Just done in a very cinematic and high quality way.

GTA1 and Postal were both old, cartoony, graphically simple games. It's not often you see a game that has an objective to kill defenseless innocents (Postal 1 is the only other example I know of actually), but certainly I've never seen a game that has you do it and has such shockingly realistic, desperate responses from the AI, with the screams and panic and wounded crawling and trying to hide and people trying to save friends by dragging them away. That's some serious shit right there. The closest example to that would be, what? Stormtroopers holding on to each other when you throw them around in Force Unleashed?

What's going on in that leaked video is a league above anything I've ever seen, for sure.

Someone post on twitter they have had it delete saves five times over so far. Bit of a worry. None the less Mythos was fun, even though it only ever got into beta and its good to see these guys making a new studio and game.

Only happens if you have multiple chars afaik. They're looking into patching it right now.

I'm looking forward to the mod tools being released at the end of the week so somebody can make a performance patch, their whole "It can run on netbooks!" pitch was so exaggerated. 10 FPS average isn't playable,

I'm going to withhold my opinion on that scene until I see if it can be changed by my actions, for example by shooting my teammates, in ways that don't just result in MISSION FAILED.

Meanwhile, Australians sure aren't withholding THEIR opinions!

You fucking terrorist glorifiers, Infinity Ward

Also it's nice to see that the Australian ratings board is keeping consistent with its ban of L4D2, mentioning that at least MW2 doesn't let you harm dead people which is why it's not +18.

The comic's funny, but the article that goes with it is based on some dumb troll logic. Apparently it's PC gamers' fault that they're making IW.net for not buying the DLC they never even attempted to sell to us in the first place.
