As far as Saboteur, yes EA is definitely sending it to die. The hype is close to none, and the marketing even less.

Yeah, even if it looks like the best game in the world I'd be really hesitant to buy a game that has nobody around to patch/support it.

I liked Mercenaries 1, except it kept crashing on my PS2 and had super long load times when I started missions. Besides that though, it was a really nice sandbox blow stuff up game.

Er, what? Okay, but what I just said about Maxis not necessarily being worth keeping at its full-strength size still stands. When you're suffering massive financial losses — largely caused by supporting original IP and gamers not fucking buying the games, I might add — you're obviously going to downsize parts of the company not performing, no matter how loved they are.EA gave Maxis all the goodwill in the world with Spore, and it ended up being a bit shit. Creators of The Sims or not (bearing in mind that part of Maxis is now a separate studio), they're subject to the same rules that govern all businesses in the world — if they don't supply products that people demand, they lose their opportunity to do so.

I mostly blame gamers nowadays. Every time publishers have lent massive support to original IP, they end up underselling and/or being total flops. There's a cemetery of amazing games that didn't sell well, and the 'publisher didn't market it properly' excuse only goes so far.

There's a difference between downsizing Maxis and closing them down, and I was responding to rumors that put Maxis in the same category as Pandemic, which was just shuttered. I don't care what justification a company might have financially for it, I still don't have to like it.

Also "Every time publishers have lent massive support to original IP, they end up underselling and/or being total flops." isn't true. Dead Space 1, and Bioshock for recent games, new IPs that did great. Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed sold well enough to get sequels. You can't blame the consumers for not buying a game they don't want. It's the people making the game who are responsible for making what there's a market for, not the market's responsibility to buy up whatever's offered.

It's probably not fair to begin to demonise EA for making cuts or closing a studio when you don't really know what kind of internal politics and issues it's facing, and if a massive studio like Maxis isn't pulling its weight then downsizing is inevitable.

I really couldn't care less what's "Fair" to a corporation.

Literally every piece of news I hear about AC2 makes me want it more, and then every time I remember that and get sad. I just know by mid-December I'm going to be involuntarily spoiled on the entire game anyway, not to mention constant complaining about "Asscreed" for every single niggle and it's just going to totally ruin it for me

Maxis is bar none my favorite internal EA studio and if they shutter it I would be sorely tempted to sign that particular EA boycott internet petition.

Of course, it's not actually going to happen. Does EA have a single product even half as profitable as The Sims? A quarter as profitable? That shit sells like WoW numbers.

That video annoyed me because the few things they did shoot (except the blowup doll and cell phone) reacted to getting shot in an interesting way, but they didn't shoot every little thing and I wanted to see them shoot every little thing

If that was me playing every single one of those pictures hung on a wall would've gotten a bullet, and GOD HELP YOU Infinity Ward if it didn't fall down and break as a result.

Wow those pings are fucking ridiculous! Is it like that ALL the time?

Those pings would all be classified as "Yellow" except the 90 and 20. So that's not like the best you can hope for or anything.

The patch for adding the console looks like a dll hook, which I thought VAC bans for. As much as I want to try this, I don't want to risk a VAC ban. The readme says that it shouldn't trigger a VAC ban, but... still...

As far as I can tell this is actually an extension of a project to enable multiplayer in pirated/cracked copies of the game, so for those users VAC isn't a concern anyway.

If they have the ability to customize and control dedicated MW2 servers, can they disable VAC in their game like someone running a TF2 or CSS server could chose to?

Just finished the game. Loved every second of it. I read over your post Rick, thanks for clearing up most of the plot. There is one thing I did not get in the plot.

I only watched the videos, but as far as I could tell the Rio stuff was

because one of the shells shot in the Airport mission was traced to a weapon smuggler in Rio, and they were going after that guy to get more info on Zakarov. The info they ended up getting was that a prisoner in some Russian gulag was a guy Makarov wanted, so they go to release that guy, wanting to use him as bait to lure out Zakarov. That guy turned out to be Price.

LOL @ all the boycotters playing the game, fucking weaklings, it was obvious they'd be playing it on release...

I can sympathize with them, the people most willing to join a protest group and be the most vocal were probably the people who wanted to play the game itself the most, and hearing that a game they really wanted was gonna be gimped crushed them. When MW2 was released though, people started saying the issues weren't as bad as previously claimed, it was at least playable, and omg the campaign's so epic! Of course people are gonna cave in.

COD:WaW is probably the best FPS on the DS btw.

I tried it out used but found it really buggy with collision (I can't remember the exact details but it was something about trying to mortar a guard tower and it being incredibly frustrating since the shots kept flying through the thing I was supposed to blow up), and the environments were Quake 1 brown.

MW Mobilized is annoying me, though. The way guys spawn feels like they designed this game as if I were playing with a wide FOV, clear visuals, and a mouse. Keep getting killed by guys I can't see, or getting killed behind cover by guys I thought for sure didn't have a shot at me, or killed simply because they spawned a three man group spread out across a big area, one guy on a roof/window and the other far apart all attacking me at once.

Also I found out there are apparently some sort of achievements, I got one for being melee'd to death by an enemy

I'm disappointed, the name reminded me of Flight Simulator X so I was expecting it to be a game where you fly through a 3d representation of the bible, shooting demons and collecting psalms and anti-gay quotes.

MW1 DS is the best FPS on the platform, which is not saying much at all, but I enjoyed it enough to see it through to the end.

So far Mobilized has been a step down though, in MW1 you would iron sight by double tapping the screen, and this was finicky but when it worked it was fast and accurate, so I could easily blast dudes. In Mobilized though you hit a button on the touchscreen in the top left corner, so you have to let go of your aiming, move your "cursor", click, then move back in iron sights. This is combined with a pretty big bump up in how much damage enemies can do to you, so so far I'm having kinda a tough time of it.

Also I guess this isn't actually MW2 DS since the game appears to be about hunting brown terrorists with nukes again, instead of Russian enemies. That kinda sucks.

I picked up Modern Warfare Mobilized on my DS because I don't have any system capable of running anything modern right now and I wanted to join in on the discussion of the game. I just started it up, and loaded the training mission. The guy tells me to walk to the left to see the instructor. To the left is a big empty course. To my RIGHT is the instructor.

I can already tell this is gonna be great. I'm so psyched right now, HELL YES MW2 DS
