I just had a hilarious 46 minute long match where I lost my base not once, but twice, but won in the end by endlessly building swarms of vikings and banshees. I love both of these units

Pay what you want sale, with options to divide the money you choose to pay among the developers, the developers and charity (EFF, and Child's Play), or just charity. All five games are included for what you pay, and all five games are TOTALLY AWESOME. If you don't take this offer you literally hate everything good in the world. All five games also run on all platforms: PC, Mac, and Linux.

Also don't be a jerk and just pay five cents or something because there are fees involved that comes out of your payment from the website used to pay.

If you go buy this deal you can then turn around and go to the Penumbra website, http://www.penumbragame.com/buy.php and you can get the Penumbra Collection (Overture, Black Plague, Requiem) for $5, which is also totally sweet. Definitely also do this deal.

Also the downloads on the Wolfire site are fantastic. I got 2.3MBps download getting Aquaria and Gish (I already own WOG and Penumbra and don't have any interest in Lugaru yet).

Had a really fun match against a friend of mine today. We went back and forth pretty much all round, and in the end they won with like three minor buildings left out of all their stuff. As far as I'm concerned, they just lost the least

I also learned some lessons. For example, I don't think next time I'm going to bother with my normal expansion, I'll just go straight to packing a command center full of SCVs and flying them to the island in the corner of the map where I can build a battlecruiser fleet in peace.

What's funny is that this same player used to walk all over me in SC1. The interface and unit changes have really made a difference for me.

I'm still terrible against pretty much everyone, though. My current record is one win, and four losses now, so far.

It's so weird that UE3 has what may be the most powerful BSP editing tool, but it's lost behind by far the worst BSP interface. I recall it getting some upgrades between UT3 and UDK, but haven't messed with it much lately.

When people start using terms like these ("BSP interface" etc) I lose track of what they mean, exactly. Not leet enough I guess. All I know is that I really like subtraction.

UnrealEd is like the easiest editor on earth. Maybe I guess Timesplitters had an easier editor but that hardly counts

Urgh. My second SC2 match, I had worse FPS than before (different map I guess), and I was cocky from my first so I tried something dumb (lifting off my barracks and flying it to the enemy expo outside his base, only to find that in the time it took me to get that barracks he'd already built a second hq), and overall against a zerg player who knew what he was doing. I went heavy on marines and medivac, he went heavy on hydralisks, I thought I'd build up a banshee fleet, he got mutalisks, I started prepping for a nuke run but the macro of handling multiple bases and production of all those units and keeping SCVs busy and setting up AA to keep the mutalisks out of my hair.. I just couldn't do it.

Edit: Holy shit it was the same map. I just watched the replay. I also realized that I pretty much quit before anything really significant happened as far as securing a victory or loss for anybody. I'm such a quitter.

Just played my first match of SC2 as a friend invited me earlier today. That was actually pretty awesome. It played similar to SC, except with most of my control issues gone, such as the 12 unit selection cap and having to hit ctrl+number to make groups (the new buttons on the hud you click are a stroke of genius for making groups, seriously). I also liked that there were boulders blocking the base entrances of me and the other guy. I've always thought RTS's could use mid-map objective sort of deals to open paths. I'd love to see it expanded even more, whether in a mod or for reals, with workers being able to build ramps and bridges or dig trenches.

I also liked the new Terran units. I was Terran, the other guy was Zerg, so I spawned a whole ton of Marines, Hellions (flamethrowers on dune buggies? Best unit concept ever), and Banshees. At the end I made a Battlecruiser to take out his hive. I got used to the new Terran units, or at least the ones I used, very quickly.

I didn't, however, know what the fuck I was looking at for most of the Zerg stuff. I recognized drones, and overlords, and I think those things popping out of dead buildings might've been zerglings, but beyond that the zerg player had a whole bunch of weird shit I'd never seen before. Scorpion looking AA units, big spiny brown things I think might've been some sort of hydralisk version, exploding black things that popped out of the ground and destroyed my first wave of marines. Didn't recognize any of the buildings besides the hive and gas extractors, either. Does SC2 have some sort of ingame encyclopedia or quick guide to alien forces? Because that would be handy. I'm sure the SP campaign would introduce all of these things, but that's not available to me yet.

Also that big sand monster looking thing that popped out of the ground, roared, and sunk back when I killed certain zerg buildings looked AWESOME. I was hoping/expecting/waiting for it to be an actual defensive creature he'd built that would pop out under my dudes and eat them at some point, and was sad when I destroyed his hive and he quit without that ever happening.

Ingame username of "Jetsetlemmin" (Man it sucks when there's arbitrary char limits on names, since mine's long ) if anyone wants to play with me sometime.

Edit: Also, I want to say I was pretty happy with performance. My GPU's an integrated Geforce 6150, way below minimum spec, but at 1024x768 and minimum settings it was perfectly playable. Moving the camera was a bit wonky, it would overshoot a bit in the direction I was holding and take a bit to respond to me pushing an arrow key in the first place, but I mostly just click the minimap to look around anyway. I didn't have any control issues with selecting and ordering units around, even when inside the other guy's base and everything fighting. Actually, I didn't notice the framerate wavering at all, whether I was looking at a barren section of the map or right in the middle of a battle.

Hey, they could always go farther back in time. Call of Duty 8: Call of Liberty. They could "artistically" make a Washington crossing the Delaware scene by copypasting the beginning of the Russian campaign from COD1.

The last news listed in Steam under the "View news" menu option for the Source SDK is from Sept. 2006. Source SDK Base, July 2009. L4D SDK just has generic L4D2 news.

On an unrelated plus note however, I just noticed that the UDK has found its way into my Tools listing in Steam. Yay not having to manually go download the new versions!

I just played the demo today (lol behind the times). I really liked how the fight scene with the hooker's abusive client worked, though exploring the trainyard was kinda annoying after that. Trying and failing a dozen times to climb up the muddy bank and getting my dude super muddy was very entertaining though. Square plus Triangle Plus R1 plus L2 plus X... FUCK *back to bottom*

I don't understand why he's involving himself in the issue of "Are games art", the guy clearly doesn't play them, or give a shit about them. It's like if Sarah Palin started saying stuff like "Books can't be exciting".

I could see Activision having something to say about that. But COD was not THAT big until COD4, if they make a game that's got the same appeal, XBL beta and a good marketing campaign behind it then I am sure it will be massive.

Activision can't stop them from quoting "From the makers of Call of Duty" on the game box. I've got a generic brand of cereal in my kitchen RIGHT NOW that says "If you like Honey Combs, try these!" on it.

Those two Stargate movies are so awful. They're like mediocre longer than usual episodes with even less budget than normal.

Got 'em for $10 with free shipping. Pretty pleased with them, the audio quality is excellent, and because they're the big kind of headphone that cover your ear they block outside noise pretty well. The cord's long as fuuuuuuuck, too. My only complaint is that the microphone comes out of the left ear piece and you have to pull it out to use it, and then push it back in when you're done, and the mechanism to hold it inside the ear piece feels like crap, I have to use way more force to get it to go back in the ear piece than I feel comfortable with, and that whole thing feels flimsy. Luckily the headset comes with a backup mic on the little volume control bit on the cord. At first I thought the sound was bad, and was kinda disappointed, but then I noticed that volume control. It's great, about equal with my 3 speaker setup's sound, with that turned up.

Another excuse to use those damned car props that get used everywhere  Looks pretty cool... is that OB engine or yet another extra enhanced Source engine?

Source got upgrades with L4D1 and again with L4D2, though with 2 it was mostly performance stuff allowing more details in a scene rather than new features, except for the gore system which I don't think will be getting much play in Portal 2.
