I guess I'm the only one bothered by the ground/street textures.
I'm bothered by the ground/street textures, they're like super blurry/low def.
Edit: Look especially at the two screenshots of robots shooting cars.

I would be really confused if they actually called a new engine iteration "Source 2" or something, given that the difference in Source between HL2 and L4D2 is practically an entirely new engine. They COULD use a big update to how Source and Hammer handles materials and custom shit though. Anyway, "New Engine" doesn't sound at all like the kind of thing they'd be making a surprise for E3. E3 isn't a tech show, it's a game show. If this were a GDC surprise that might be different.
It's going to be a side-story HL1 prequel explaining Gordon Freeman's origins and how he got so good at kicking alien ass. It's also going to blow the G-man's identity wide-open but nobody else knows about it cause Gordon can't talk.
Quote from FuryoI guess I'll be the guy that sounds like he's taking a piss on the parade, but you guys have to realize that both trailers were done by Square Enix Japan and have nothing to do with the game or even its team.I do want to see the actual game, but I would definitely go see the movie these trailers are for, cause that's all I'm seeing here. For all the cool moves, nice story telling and introduction of characters this shows, I want to see a team pulling these moves off in a comprehensive game design.
E3 can't come any sooner
The scene was made by Square Enix's CG team, but under the direction of Eidos Montreal and a local CG studio using assets made by Eidos Montreal, or at least that's what I've seen claimed.
I have an SDTV so all my console games are blurry and lacking aliasing anyway
You know, if I don't have a decent gaming PC by "early 2011", I just might get this game on my PS3. I played through Wolfenstein recently on it and that was a blast, and I'm playing Oblivion now.
Quote from duxI see they are doing what GTA 4 and Alan Wake did to compensate for the consoles shitty resolution; put a blur filter over everything to hide the lack of any real AA. I hope this doesn't get carried over to the pc like it did with GTA 4./Grumble
I don't see it. The guard on the stairs in that image I posted, his shadow looks completely sharp, and the foreground edges still look aliased.
Another neat screenshot:

This just looks Deus Ex as fuck. And that robot to the left, in its default state is folded up on itself in a crate form. CRATE BOT.
They released screenshots too, digging this rifle

I think zombines would work pretty well with the l4d2 formula.
Quote from HourencesWhy mod a game when you can make your own game?
Because Half-life/Unreal/Quake comes with art assets many people don't have the tools or knowledge to make, but they do have the free level editor that came with the game. At least personally it's the real reason I was ever into mods- because it was something as an amateur I could actually do.
Edit: I agree with campaignjunky. While big total conversions are shrinking because the standards for them kept getting higher and higher, there's still lots of people making custom levels for tf2, UMC maps in SC2, stuff for Oblivion and Fallout 3, etc. Actually, the Bethesda games seems to me to be one of the single biggest modding communities, there's thousands of things on the Nexus sites. It's insane how much stuff gets made for those games.

Quote":2ua6qm1v]I tried to replay K2 a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't... There's something about those controls that makes the aiming so horrible, so stiff, that it's more than frustrating, I really hope they fix this cos the game looks gorgeous!
I just tried the demo recently and hated it. Probably emphasized because I had just went through Wolfenstein, which is a very colorful, fast paced, tightly controlled FPS, but I couldn't stand Killzone 2, especially the controls. It was like a throwback to the days where nobody had a clue how to properly control an fps with an analog stick.
Quote from MazyAye, one of the first announcements about KL2 was that it will have online co-op. I think everyone will agree that releasing a game today that is obviously heavy on co-op and only being split-screen in this day and age just wouldn't work.
Speaking of the N64, I still would love to try out Goldeneye64 today and see if it still holds up in 4 player split screen as well as it did back then. Some of my most intense multiplayer memories come from Bunker with mines only, oh the humanity!
Anyway, yeah, KL2 is online and offline co-op
Good to hear ![]()
Our split screen game of choice was Conker's Bad Fur Day. That game had such great multiplayer. Especially if you were only playing with two players instead of four because that let you have twelve bots in the War mode and having a big squad of allies while fighting the guy sitting next to you and his ai team was fantastic and totally unique for us at the time.
So has it been announced if Kane and Lynch 2 has online coop or has that not been mentioned yet? I just got a PS3 and my friend and I were all excited to play Kane and Lynch together, until we realized that it was local coop only. I'm so over split screen multiplayer, personally, squeezing my view into a tiny little half a TV ruins the experience for me. Haven't really enjoyed it since I played N64 with friends back in highschool on my friend's big ass projection TV.
Last time I heard anything about John Romero he was making N-Gage games.
Things don't have to be identical for one to remind you of the other. :themoreyouknow:
I was thinking mostly of the buildings in the foreground with the stone facing.
The bottom image in that magazine scan reminds me of Oblivion
I didn't like Painkiller at all, mostly because of how far you had to go through the game, mindlessly killing same enemy over and over with the same gun, before you found any other weapons. A stake gun and a melee weapon, ehhh. Vastly preferred Serious Sam for that style of game.
That trailer looked good though! ![]()

Watching this trailer all I can think of is how much certain reviews whined about the unnecessary bad language in Kane and Lynch 1 ![]()
