Just tried it, and I don't like it. Most maps are dark as hell, even the hud is dark- I had a hell of a time trying to see the gun I was buying, and the names for the vast majority meant nothing to me, and apparently the gun stats are broken or something because all of them had 0 DPS listed, so I just had to randomly experiment. Never really found success outside limited progress with the sole shotgun available (which is fucking weird in a mod all about having as many guns as possible), though I kept getting sniped by guys hiding in dark corners I couldn't see into, or shot from close up by guys I still couldn't see, or blown up by grenades I didn't see. If you told me the server I had played on had admins running around invisible fucking with people I'd be inclined to believe you, that's how bad the visibility thing was. Also the different team character models don't look very different and the friendly icon fades out past like 30 feet, and the name popup too eventually, so I would also waste ammo on friendlies or ignore enemies who would go on to snipe me.

Basically it felt like the first time I played Counterstrike.

In the last half hour I've gotten 260MB. I'd totally help seed this in a torrent, I've got 25Mb upload.

Needs better download mirrors, I'm getting a whopping 130KBps, which is pretty slow for a ~800MB file

My first time through was normal with friends and the next couple of times was with random (terrible) guys online so I had to play normal then as well.

Friend me on steam, I'm JSL, and we can play together

Hm, kinda annoying. You can't earn XP or achievements on custom campaigns. Seeing as the game only comes with the one and is seemingly all about the custom content, that's pretty odd and disappointing to me.

Edit: Also damn this game goes well with the Bionic Commando Rearmed soundtrack. Sets just the right retro action tone.

Holy damn this game looks pretty. All dynamic lights and post processing and particles. Should shut up at least most of the people who go "UGH JUST MAKE A NEW ENGINE VALVE".

Apparently you can import custom music to play during combat.

I'm up to 560KBps. Only 60% done so far tho. Was playing Crysis while I waited. That level where the helicopter chases you down a river at night was intense as hell, dudes. Evil AI on that thing.

Only place I can get the download to start from is Ukraine, where it's downloading at less than a tenth my max speed. Apparently there are new Steam content servers in my city, too... but they're too busy. Aw well.

I don't get the sense that it's random, but rather that you build custom tiles in Hammer, then use the tile editor to stitch them together. Check out this page:http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... and_Themes

Edit: Man, how awesome is it that you could just create packs of tiles and release those for people to build their own campaigns and stuff. I'm gonna love the hell out of this, I think.

    http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... sion_Rules

This page mentions randomization and how to facilitate it with tile sizes and layouts.

Well you have to have some static stuff by the sounds of it, the randomization just fills the gaps between static placed tiles. I don't think you can give it a bunch of tiles and say "Make me a campaign". But still, it would be super easy to make levels using it.

Here's the editor they're including: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Swarm_TileGenHoly shit this is going to be awesome.

If I'm reading this right, the levels are dynamically set up like Torchlight or Diablo levels, with predefined rooms being put together as a level on load? That's awesome as hell.

Nah, partial analysis of extremist Christian groups in the US. Don't worry, I know too well that that's far from the actual truth.

News is like that across the entire western world, haven't you ever watched Newswipe?

In comparison with the Swiss and German media I'm acquainted with, I'd say the tendency towards "alerting journalism" isn't as strong as it is in the US media and some special communities (you know... Christians...).

I saw news clips of German news when there was a school shooting a couple years ago. Was just like American news except not in English, and somewhat fewer "What do YOU think" segments.

I'm not having trouble with my mouse, only my keyboard. I'd plug in my controller except that lately the custom driver/software for it (PS3 controller, software's to get it to imitate 360 so I can play gfwl type games) has started crashing and refusing to close if the controller usb cord wiggles the slightest bit

Goldrush isn't really all that well balanced. You can see the stats here: http://www.steampowered.com/status/tf2/tf2_stats.php And Goldrush doesn't really stand out from the others (not like shitfests like Hydro ), but in my experience on most random servers defense has a big advantage over attack, especially now when a wrangler engineer can just put one on top RED spawn, point it at the cart tunnel, and close it off as well as if he just bricked it up. With the wrangler that first part of the map is now by far the biggest obstacle, even over the final cap, which was previously a massive D spamfest.
