Clear Sky has some fucked up balance issues, all related to the fact that faction groups will respawn almost instantly as soon as they're outside of the active NPC range, so you can't permanently take a base: You can raid it, kill everyone, even get the quest reward from a rival faction for killing 'em all, but you won't even make it back to the rival faction's base before you'll see a message pop up saying that the other HQ was retaken.

Also this annoying fucking ass machinegunner in Cordon that respawns the same way and has perfect vision.

There's a Clear Sky Complete mod, but I don't know what its features are.

Other than that stuff though, I enjoyed Clear Sky. The new areas and different takes on old areas is cool. For some reason while it revisits most of Shoc's areas, they leave out some of the best, like Wild Territory and the Bar. The two big new areas, the swamps and the city past the Red Forest for the endgame are both really neat though.

Singularity's a pretty bad game, you guys. I don't know what went wrong with it but it somehow manages to combine obnoxious publisher-mandated casual gamer handholding and incredibly unbalanced frustrating gameplay scenarios. It feels like nobody cared about this game. I died five times in a row when the ticks are first introduced, and another three times in a row later on when I had to defend some Alyx ripoff on a train from army dudes spawning from everywhere all at once, and quit. I don't think I'll be going back to it.

Notch should hook up with those Frictional guys. They both make the sorts of games nobody else does, and both are interested in making money. Notch just seems to be better at that last part as long as Paypal's not involved.

Poked around and found out that Paypal's been fucking with Notch for three weeks now, that 600k has built up over those three weeks with Notch with no access to it.

I wonder if it's possible he didn't have a business Paypal account. Normal paypal accounts have a limit on how much you can withdraw each month. Mine's somewhere in between normal and business (because I accept credit card payments), with a limit of $5k/mo.

Why didn't he withdraw that money earlier? I never ever keep money actually in my Paypal account, ever. I deposit money when I need it and when I need it only, because if something goes wrong Paypal is shady as fuck and a completely unapproachable entity while my bank I can actually deal with.

Just finished it. Christ, that was intense. I don't think a game has ever more deserved expressions such as and Good puzzles, too. I can't wait to try out the SDK.

Somebody on my Steam friend's list gave me Red Orchestra for free and I just tried it and I don't like it. Now I feel bad. But it's super ugly and tanks are apparently invulnerable god vehicles dominating everything while when I drive them suddenly they're paper cars that explode on contact with anything. A tooltip popped up telling me to aim for the "seam between the tank and turret, or driver's window". But the tank models are pretty ugly and there's not much zoom to aiming with the tank, and none at all with the anti-tank rifle, so I couldn't see any of these things at all. Also once I found a Panzerfaust near the enemy team's base, but couldn't find any near my spawn. Also I totally missed with it and it just hit the ground and did nothing ten feet from the tank, which then shot me.

Watch the 2001 trailer, I think that'll give you an idea of what the gameplay will be like, I doubt they would go more oldschool than that. Damn I love the 2001 trailer.. best game trailer ever.

Agreed. Especially the part where Duke shootings things.

Edit: Oh, and when something blows up.

you can drawon the whiteboard and erase their plan even lol, my game of show for pax, worth the wait in line for the demo...

Ok that's pretty awesome. I hope they go the full distance and have a system to "judge" what you draw, with an achievement "Immaturity" or something tied to it.

Because you know lots of people are gonna draw a dick. I don't know why! It's some sort of mystery! But when you give an internet person the ability to draw on something they'll draw a dick, or a smiley face, and then do the other. I saw it so often when Alien Swarm came out as people realized you could doodle on the map.

That red border "pain" effect so many games have lately has absolutely no place in a Duke Nukem game. I mean, come ON. It's Duke Nukem. Use the Manhattan Project health system and give me health boosts for kills, and keep that action obscuring shit to bad games like Call of Duty.

SGM mod is amazing and I would recommend it to everyone replaying COP. It does add a lot of hard stuff (I would actually recommend going into the "SGM Options" (this is a fucking awesome feature for a mod to have btw) and selecting "hide SGM anomalies" so you aren't constantly walking into nearly invisible whirligigs and being instagibbed) like random anomalies outside standard anomaly fields, landmines, and the formerly mostly unique mutants like Chimera, Giant, and Controller can now rarely spawn in the world at large, but they don't appear early on, they're slowly phased in. I saw two or three controllers in Zaton and one psuedogiant as a sort of boss battle to get to a key mission stash, and Jupiter introduced more common psuedogiants, chimeras, burers, and controllers. But it makes up for it with new unique weapons you can buy at new "sgm traders" located in most faction/stalker bases, tons of new items, dozens and dozens of new stashes to find, new quests with new rewards, monsters drop parts like they did in Shoc and you can sell these to the hunter in Jupiter for bounties, etc. Right now I'm using a pimped out Colt M4A1, and the Predator shotgun the trader gives you for killing the two chimeras, and I'm so bad ass

Still get tore up if I can't take down a chimera before he gets to me, or if multiple controllers happen into the same area, and there are still hard fights from mercs etc. But overall the mod feels super well balanced, and polished, and even bug tested. It's like the most professional mod ever. Lots of people are saying it feels less like a mod and more like an unofficial expansion pack. It's totally awesome.

Edit: About the M4, in most stalker mods you can assume new guns = very OP, but it's not. For one thing, SGM nerfs normal NATO ammo so it has very poor armor penetration, while conversely flying better than russian ammo. It also doesn't take a beating well, typically after every mission I need to spend 5-600 to repair it to full again. But with AP ammo and headshots (which are much easier due to the faster ammo and reduced bullet drop) it's a monster and feels very awesome to use.

There are also other new weapons like a Mosin Nagant rifle, and Ppsh smg, and another russian rifle that has a different name but the same model. Also a scoped hunting rifle that I used for most of Zaton called the Pathfinder, that was a fun gun.

It's not an artifact, it's a model freaking out, it was constantly wiggling and making impact noises. I have a background temp monitor running when I game that sounds an alarm when my gpu crosses 90c, and it didn't go off.

Played it on my little sister's ipod. The fake joysticks on the screen were awkward as hell to use. Maybe my thumbs are too big for the iPhone format size.

But it definitely looked good and was impressive that it was running on that hardware. According to wikipedia, the device I tried it on has a 600Mhz processor, 256MB memory, and 320 × 480 screen.

Edit: Also I was surprised to see on the same page that the current generation iPhone has the same amount of internal memory as an entire 360 or PS3.

I find it very amusing that a graphical glitch is properly lit and shadowed for some reason. Thankfully this disappeared after a couple ingame hours (presumably when whatever corpse it used to be faded).

Madworld was OK but I couldn't stick with it, I feel like the black and white design wasn't an initial concept but thrown in halfway in dev or something when it turned out they couldn't match the wii's memory limits with their textures or something, because in a lot of levels it just makes shit impossible to identify or navigate.

I played through that recently and was super impressed by some of the environments, especially DC. I guess using lightmaps predominantly lets them do a whole lot more spectacular shit.
