Nehrim: Edge of Fate is on hold until my new card is installed, so I went back to Torchlight and installed a bunch of mods, mostly convenience stuff like a spell dealer, respect potions in the general store, etc. I got steam achievements for it

I had 40* idle and 70* stress with my 8800gt and its still working (i'm not using it anymore though) Shame to hear that yours died so suddenly though, RIP.

Probably a dual slot cooler, mine was a single slot 8800gt. Those are infamous for how hot they get.

More people care about options to help blind players play the game than give two shits about "competitive" play.

It's a three or so year old 8800GT, it was beyond its normal lifespan already. It used to get really hot, like 95C, without artifacting or crashing or anything, and I dusted it and installed Nvidia software to automatically adjust fan speeds based on temp so it hasn't broken 85C in months, with 80C its stable at load temp after the fan kicked up to 100% (I game with RealTemp running, it's set to sound an alarm (sounds like the Star Trek Enterprise enemy ship alarm ) when it goes over 90C). It was perfectly fine yesterday, and then today while I was exploring Nehrim: Edge of Fate (like 8 or 9 hours into it) suddenly the entire screen turned purple and covered in artifacts and it crashed. Trying to troubleshoot it, it would artifact and freeze earlier and earlier. At one point I saw a bluescreen (which got artifacted) saying something about a driver caught in an infinite loop. Eventually it would artifact and freeze right after booting into windows. Taking the card out and going to onboard video made the issue go away instantly, even though my onboard video uses the exact same drivers. So yeah, it's dead.

Ordered this as a replacement, because FUCK if I'm going to miss Fallout: New Vegas.

It was working fine for the longest time and then all at once today over the last two hours it's gone from perfect to "artifacting and freezing constantly". I'm back on onboard video which means I pretty much can't run anything.

While I have enjoyed an RTS style game in Source before (Zombie Master), the concept of DOTA and the community it attracts makes this sound even less appealing than vanilla counterstrike to me.

I find myself using the same areas of my brain I would when playing chess and street fighter.

How do you mash buttons in chess?

I saw somewhere that I'm going to impale you upon a tower made from your own bones.

    That'd be pretty impressive, dawg.

The Giantbomb Quick Look of this game made it look terribly stale. Absolutely nothing that sticks out that would make you want to buy it, unless you buy every military console fps that's released (and if you do I think you might have a problem).

Not just GOTY, I bought the game back during the beginning of summer Steam sale for like $20 for the game + all DLC together. Anyone who has Borderlands on Steam got the early access key today.

How the crap do you make boats? And how the crap do you make work boats? The help section is rather vague. My city is rather close to the coast, does it have be LITERALLY right next to the water?

Yeah, it has to be touching the coast, so that there's space for the boat to spawn when you build it.

I played Civ 4 and it has a lot of the same annoying stuff but I guess the time + how much Civ 5 has been praised for streamlining and cleaning up obscure stuff that the sore spots just stick out to me more, I guess.

I didn't say production spots produce food. You use more food having a mine being used by a city than if that citizen is instead fishing or gathering spices or something. My overall food usage was higher while using production tiles than without, and to save a starving city by trial and error I found moving some production guys to income tiles lessened the food burden of the city.

I like Civ 5 but there are a lot of things still completely impenetrable, despite everyone saying it's so streamlined and how information given to the player is optimized. One of my cities was starving and seemingly randomly turning on and off random tiles that had no food production would increase or decrease my food production. I eventually figured out that working production tiles costs food. That seems like something a tooltip somewhere should've told me, and maybe that happened and I missed it, but it was a big hangup for me.

Also whenever I get stuck spawned super close to an AI, who due to the close quarters will mass an army and declare war on me within 20 turns, forcing me to choose between keeping up tech and wonder-wise with the other competitors or matching his military buildup to avoid a quick death.

I haven't played RDR but those videos of cougar people and donkey ladies and flying people flapping their arms makes it certainly look like the price of admission to me. I'd get a copy but then F:NV is about to come out...

I recall some murmurs about getting MC on steam at some point. Maybe when his independent sales dry out a bit and he needs a bigger market. Getting on steam is itself a pretty big advertisement.

Well game is alpha ¬¬ but still he could just make it so that all torches are replaced by lanterns with the update as a default.

Which is exactly what's gonna happen- not that it matters to me because I'm starting a new world post-update. Keeping your old world will mean you aren't going to see the full benefit of the worldgen changes until you mount an expedition away from your currently generated area, however big or small that might be. Personally my 'main' world is like 18MB right now and it'd take me five minutes of sailing to get to the edge of the generated world.

He's talked about that before, but as far as actually on the Halloween page I'm optimistically reading into "Scary new depths" pretty much. With biomes he's already making massive changes to world gen so increasing map height doesn't seem like a stretch.

Wander around outside looking for caves and cliff faces. It's pretty easy to find coal out in the open in rock. Also note caves, during the day they're lit up enough for you to explore a bit into them for resources as well. If you find iron but no coal you can always smelt it with wood in the furnace and combine it with flint, and go around starting fires for light
