Bought Serious Sam HD Gold yesterday, Crysis today, mostly for Mechwarrior Living Legends.

I've bought so much more stuff than I normally do on Steam, even for the event sales...

~$32 total spent so far, on eight super good games.

I've gotten Super Meat Boy, Burnout Paradise, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom, and GRAW1.

New sales up, and they include -75% off all the Ghost Recon games. Which was the one that had a PC version specifically made by GRIN? I might get that.

Narration sucks guys, don't use narration anymore in anything, fuck narration.

I liked the music. What impressed me most in the trailer was the part where the player kicks a car into a dude. Dark Messiah of Crysis. Hell yes.

I'm going to wager a guess that if it can run on an Xbox 360 and PS3 (probably at 720p), then it should run fine on most computers that aren't from 1994.

I'd wager a guess that it's aggressively gimped to run on the ancient 360. PS3, no problem. But still, those shots are basically what you will never see as an average gamer when you play it. basically it should say: "This is how good this game CAN look. But for you, WONT look."

PS3 is only a year newer than 360, and has a more outdated gpu

I don't know if the snow particle effect is part of Morrowind vanilla or the result of a mod (I've got so much shit installed) but it certainly looks way, way better than Oblivion's weak ass snow.

As far as mod files go: Better Heads, Better Bodies, all the official Beth plugins, The Light Mod, Better Books, Soulgem Replacer, Ebony Armor Fixes, Illuminated Windows, Better Daedric, Oriental Weapons, Better Clothes, all of Vurt's terrain/foliage mods. Outside that there's about a gig worth of direct model and texture replacements, and Morrowind Graphics Extender, and four custom shaders: ImprovedWaterCaustics06a, knx_SSAO_v09, BlurBloomHDR_v1, sunshaft_v002a. I went into the sunshaft and HDR shaders and manually tweaked them (turning down HDR, turning up sunshafts) to my liking.

My Morrowind install folder has increased by 1.4GB over its fresh install size.

With all that at once and a 14 cell draw distance, Morrowind averages about 15FPS. It's a pretty slow paced game so I'm ok with the framerate. I'd have to drop the ambient occlusion to get it above that, it's the shaders that really take the wind out of the performance. It's a hack to get them working at all, so they aren't what anyone would call "optimized"

Dead Rising comes to mind. The almost intentionally bad cut scenes and levels of absurdity are pretty close to that. Takes what is a pretty standard genre and does some straight up bizzare shit with it.

Okay maybe it's just fucking stupid. I don't even know.

That was really fucking stupid lol.

Anyway, kinda related to this topic: Does anyone else not think of "Weird people" or "bizarre shit" when they think of Lynch, but instead jumps right to the Twin Peaks intro?

This song and footage that plays with it left a super impression on me when I first saw it. It's unsettling in a way that's nearly impossible to pin down. I love it.

Went back to Nehrim because of the Skyrim news. Saved an elf slave, got a cool sword, now I'm off to go investigate some magic sheep. Fun times.

alan wake doesn't seem very lynch-ish to me, it's more of a stephen king novel, or at best a dennis lehane novel (guy wrote made shutter island and mystic river). with lynch, you need to have much more subtlety and symbolic material. alan wake in this way is too literal.

Alan Wake's filled with Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet references, even if stylistically it doesn't go too far out of its way to try Lynch's style. Really, I don't think Lynch's style and pacing would work too well in a videogame anyway. Try to imagine Twin Peaks being turned into a videogame. It'd be a really repetitive railroaded adventure game with little player agency, because without the carefully controlled direction it wouldn't be identifiable to the style of a particular director. Alan Wake's Lynch-esque in the cutscenes and dialog, while retreating to survival horror between those parts, and I think that's about as much as you can hope for. That is, outside Pathologic.

By that they probably mean the renderer.

I don't think renderer when I hear "graphics and gameplay engine", but that could just mean middleware.

The gameplay isn't like Audiosurf, it's like AaAAaaA!!. You're falling down through the level and score points based on getting close to things as you fall without hitting anything. On top of that apparently you shoot stuff.

Gamebryo definitely has issues, foremost being that it no longer has a developer of its own. It's practically abandonware

In the Elder Scrolls "Novels" that have come out since Oblivion they've totally fucked up most of Tamriel, including wiping Morrowind and Black Marsh off the map. If they keep that tone going with the game than maybe this could be interesting, but the whole "direct sequel to Oblivion" thing has me worried, since Oblivion's plot was stupid, and the game contradicted the series lore about how Cyrodil was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a cool roman jungle sort of deal, gigantic, full of old ruins and shimmering golden cities. Instead it was generic fantasy place.

At least the setting of Skyrim has promise to avoid one of Oblivion's biggest faults, of making the world look small by having it all visible. With Morrowind, even with distant lands from mods, the world looks gigantic because of the big mountain in the middle cutting off your view.

    hmm isn't this basically audiosurf?

Does it bother you that another game builds levels on mp3s?

Haven't played it again since that sour first impression, I've been playing The Witcher. It pleases me in the same odd way that Neverwinter Nights did. My only complaint so far is that you can't point the camera in OTS mode in a different direction from where Geralt is facing, so I can't swing the camera around dramatically as I run from point to point
