Hugo's House of Horrors.
[Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/7TXmi.png]
At the same time I got it I also got Wolf3d, Doom, all those identical 2d platformer games from Apogee (like Duke), etc. so it's a tossup as to which came first, but Hugo's House of Horrors is the memory that feels earliest to me. I think we had an Atari in the house before the MS-DOS PC, but I don't remember playing it, just watching my mom and aunt play Bowling and being confused because I couldn't make out at age five what was going on on the TV.

I totally remember Secret Agent, I think it was on the same shareware pack (It was like 7 CDs, we were an early adopter of the disc drive, my mom was so excited when she bought that bundle for probably way too much money at a flea market) that got me Hugo lol

You'd think this map would be pretty taxing but it runs about equal to the Parish finale for me- a couple frames less than the rest of the game, but nothing to whine about. The map's just about guaranteed to spawn a tank or witch or both, for reasons I'm unsure of. I guess the director likes the grass or something. It's also super heavy on the hordes.
Fuck alphas. I was investigating the crashed helicopter up on the plateau in southern Zaton, and the cutscene is interrupted by gunfire, and where there was previously 0 there is now TWENTY FUCKING TWO displayed on my radar stalker count. I managed to kill them all, hiding on the wing of the helicopter and sniping with my M14, and by the time I went through it all most corpses and items had vanished except for about six. My M14 is down to less than half repair.
I get my loot, leaving behind a backpack of the extras, and move up to the drainage facility in the SE to seek out a personal stash in there, sniping the mercs standing on the balconies, and start moving in- DEAD. Sniped by an alpha squad standing on the outskirts of the pool there. Reload, start instead just moving back to Skadovsk. When I reach the lip of the hill that slopes down to Noah's Ark, there are seven alphas coming up to greet me, moving along with a fucking controller and horde of hamsters. Of all the fucking things, the HAMSTERS kill me.
[Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/V2Mw4l.jpg]
Reload again, I flee around them and eventually reach skadovsk under CONSTANT fire from all sides. Save, stash stuff, finish quests, TURN OFF ALPHA SQUADS.
I have one final thing to take care of in Zaton, and leave heading south. Make it to the cranes north of Noah... and get killed by another fucking alpha squad hiding in the reeds.
They are seriously ruining this game. They're supposed to be elite squads sent to assassinate me! Not an entire fucking army washing over the entire fucking zone!
I've got more Alpha member kills than every other group of NPCs in the entire game, INCLUDING ZOMBIES.
Started a project last night in L4D with three other guys, we all work on one map of a campaign, all together at planned events for preset amounts of time. Last night was 10:30 to 2:30. I missed the first half an hour or so (whoops!), but I think what I came up with is pretty good so far, especially since I have a clear picture in my head where I'm going with it.

I knew I was on a time limit so I chose a theme that let me heavily rely on models.
Behind all those hedges are simple nodraw walls for the sake of vis. Next event I'm going to start dropping displacements for the ground, paint it with dirt and grass, and manually place swampgrass models bordering the path. I intend to have the grass nav spaces set to "Laydown" so idle zombies can pop out from hiding in the grass.
Also I forgot to make that big cylinder underneath the fountain in the third shot a func_detail, and yet the map still compiles fast as you'd want anyway. Must be some sort of miracle.
Looted an M14 sniper rifle off an alpha squad. It's basically the Lynx, except extra damage, far more expensive ammo, and a non-standard weapon, which makes it cooler.
[Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/UoSnTl.jpg]
The stock of ammo I've got in that image cost me 16,000ru. Totally worth it. I actually had to avoid buying all the upgrades for it, because if you get all the recoil mods it starts recoiling DOWN when you fire. ![]()
The Lynx sniper rifle is so great. 130 damage, and an optional upgrade that adds the binocular IFF identification boxes (marks NPCs and mutants with Deus Ex looking borders around them when looking through the scope) so I can freely snipe those asshole alphas hiding in the brush. Don't even use upgraded ammo. I also carry around that one high end NATO assault rifle that comes with a weird looking diamond scope (HK something), fully upgraded, with upgraded ammo for zombies and bandits, it's also pretty good. Close up burst fire on alphas might be more useful. But it doesn't have the scope range or IFF of the Lynx. I also still have the Predator shotgun but not a ton of uses for it. I wish the TOZ Pathfinder was still useful, because that was a classy gun, but the two shots before reload can't cope with the horde sizes SGM spawns at this stage in the game, you need a decent clip.
Also that SS-99 suit, fully upgraded, actually provides some decent bullet protection that doesn't help whatsoever against headshots.

Quote from CampaignjunkieFarCry 2 seems cool but damnit I want to start wildfires! And why does everyone talk too fast and mechanically? They really dropped the ball on voice over direction.
Good thing you never really have to listen to any of it. When you're getting a mission from guys in person you can run up and grab the folder, cutting them off most of the time, and on your phone you can just hang up. Far Cry 2 gets a LOT better once you've unlocked some good guns, like the pistol slot grenade launcher, and LMGs.
I'm not really angry, just frustrated. It's not like I didn't choose to attempt this challenge >_>
So I got the Tide, a unique high power version of the Vintar BC silenced sniper rifle from the custom gun order guy, and took out an alpha squad with relative ease sniping them from on top the bridge south of the Ranger Station. In response, the game rolls in super thick fog and once again upgrades the alpha squads, and spawns a new one within attack range of me within three minutes. I have enough time to return to Skadosk, sell my loot, and walk out moving towards the boiler anomaly and I'm dead from guys I can't see through the fog, without my vision meter ever even moving. So after that I go sprinting through the fog blindly northwest, heading towards the sawmill, aiming to pick up a few stashes that had built up marked on my map in that area, only to find it occupied. I figure, more zombies (at the start of the game in SGM it's full of zombies) and hold my ground, trying to kill them, only for a couple to sneak around me and blast me from two feet away. As I see as I lay there dead, it's actually occupied by hostile mercenaries, awesome.
Reload one more time, go rushing off again, find a stash in the middle of nowhere, pick it up, and the game freezes. Takes like ten minutes for it to close.

I'm getting L4D Director-esque vibes of hate coming off this game, with the level of difficulty it's giving me.
Man, and I thought the alpha squads were getting hard. I haven't been able to fight one for like three hours, and yet with me running away they're still upgrading anyway. Now there are two separate alpha squads moving in tandem to squeeze on me. These guys are universally "Master" level stalkers, with high end gear and armor and laser accurate cross-country grenade throwing abilities, and roll around the zone by the dozen. I think, much like the SGM anomaly fields, the alpha squads might just cross a line between "challenge" and "I Wanna Be The Guy".
Stalker call of pripyat with SGM 1.7 and Atmosfear 2.1, on master difficulty with alpha squads on. Only thing I've set to make the game possibly easier is to turn off SGM anomalies because running into almost invisible instadeath gravity anomlies that hang out in the middle of nowhere without rhyme, reason, or fair warning sucks. I've left landmines on because they're a) moderately more visible, and b) You can buy a metal detector that marks them on your radar, letting you use them tactically.
Quote from CampaignjunkieOkay now I really want to play it but now you've also kinda spoiled it. Hmmm.
Not really. The plot starts off with the player character saving a guy in the past that ends up changing the future. The game acts like this itself is a twist late in the game, but you'd have to be braindead not to realize what happened as soon as it happened. One of the possible endings to the game is to stop this act for some reason by shooting yourself instead of something possibly more reasonable like shooting the guy your past self saves or something. Anyway, it's not a game to play for the plot. It's a Raven game, so this shouldn't be a surprise.
Spent 6 hours with the l4d sdk last night into this morning, trying to make stuff. I could've spent this time actually playing videogames! Or sleeping!
I'm back on the wagon I think.
Quote":1fhoysuc]Act5 is horrible tho, ther'es like 10 minutes of gameplay the rest is a boss ~_~
Anyway MGS4 is good, but MGS3 is still the best MGS ever (After MGS1)
The game's uneven between the acts all the way through. Act 5's fights were pretty good, it's just that after Act 4 it couldn't compete. None of the acts can really. I started a new game+ almost immediately, and the constant interruptions for cutscenes, most of which have separate loads into the cutscene and back into the game, make me want to shoot somebody. Act 2 lets you actually play for a good stretch but it's like a fourth the size of Act 1. Act 3 is good, but only if you realize the trick to the stealth (stick to the civ disguise and put on laughing octopus's face).
I should find a copy of Twin Snakes and play it. I haven't actually played MGS1 since around 2001 (though I remembered all the references!)
Beat MGS4 today. Act 4 is so amazing. I wish the whole game was like Act 4.
Bought Kane and Lynch 2, convinced my friend to do the same. We had grand plans to play the first in coop which failed (game's fault, not ours). Thank you steam sale, for making this dream come true ![]()
I played the demo and didn't like it. About twenty minutes in I jumped off a bridge to go exploring and couldn't get back up at all, and ended up getting stuck in a rock, immobile, attempting to do so.
Quote from CorwinThank you steam for letting me buy all those games I won't ever have time to play
You know, after buying Crysis I went to moddb's "popular mods" category for it and downloaded a few that stuck out to me, and ended up getting both of the crysis mods you have on your portfolio. ![]()
The firefly one actually sounds kinda annoying from the readme though, I think I'll try mechwarrior first ![]()
