The terms "std: out of memory" and "there are no more files" are haunting my dreams as this point. Narodnaya Soljanka crashes with either of those messages, both of which basically mean the various bloated memory uses have finally added up to a point where the game doesn't feel like running anymore, anywhere from 30 seconds to an hour every session.

I miss sigerous mod so much, but I've put like a billion hours into playing this POS and I'm determined to reach the end of Shadow of Chernobyl. I've never actually beat it with the "real" ending, just reached the wish granter in the past.

At least presumably the touch screen is multitouch, since it stretches across the left and right hand area. The DS's lack of multitouch is annoying.

That's what NGP stands for? There is no groan big or loud enough.

Went back and beat Dead Space 1. I've already finished extraction, and was kinda surprised and annoyed to find both games end the same way, ie "remember System Shock 2?". If Dead Space 2 ends that way however I think it'll wrap around from stupid to hilarious. We'll see I guess. Not going to buy this game for full price, not with that DLC announcement. I was one of the few people who bought Extraction, so I'm super disappointed I can't play the Extraction related SP content.

Edit: Also big minus for having a Resident Evil style game and no end-game ranking screen. The game's only as long as an older RE title (my completion time was 5:04), so without that ranking system encouraging replays and earning unlocks I'm really disappointed. There are unlocks but who cares? I started a new game to read the unlocked text files and then immediately quit. No point going through the game on Medium again with better guns and a new armor set, it wasn't that much of a challenge the first time around.

Play Silent Hill 2, you wont regret it.

Silent Hill is definitely a series I would recommend going through in order. It's ok to quit a game if you don't like it, but at least try it.

Oh come on chaps, leave it alone. Life's too short!

I've taken this into consideration and decided it's probably for the best at this point.

Still prejudiced against this game for not being Shattered Memories 2.

Even though that multiplayer trailer isn't actually against "invaders", it's still a better use of "Invaders Must Die" than the DNF trailer. At least they don't keep interrupting the song for cut aways to the player character taking a piss or something

yeah except you intentionally misinterpreted my statement, which classifies as trolling. but yeah, good try.

Only if I'm pretending that it was a serious misinterpretation, made to set you off, which it wasn't. But seriously, saying "I had a similar idea for a game once" about a game that's the eighth sequel (not counting stuff like Silent Hill: The Experience, or Silent Hill: Arcade) in a franchise that stretches back to the PS1 is pretty funny.

It's a strategy game about evacuating civilians from a city as zombies swarm over it. You place your evac helicopter landing spot, and it blows an airhorn as it lands attracting people (and zombies) within audible distance to it. As you progress you also unlock mercenaries who help defend the evacuation. You place them like you place the landing zone and then either they defend automatically against anything nearby (like infantry) or you manually command them to attack (like artillery or demo teams). It's got a great style to it, as should be expected, coming from the Gravity Bone/Flotilla guy.

It's got a demo that lets you play four or five missions, so there's no reason not to try it.

In NS today I had a bullshit death that was funny, and not just bullshit.

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/mArBZl.jpg]

That helicopter? Not supposed to be flying. A massive pack of dogs and psuedodogs were chasing me, and it was laying crashed in the woods. I climbed on top of it, and the dogs proceed to run up against the side of it best they can, at which point I notice that the helicopter appears to be a physics object, and the dogs are actually moving it. I have a few scant seconds to smirk at this before the pack happens to push it into a nearby whirligig anomaly. I was killed instantly.

Personally I enjoy the art to design, kinda like architecture. Building lines, lighting, spaces, the feel to an area and how people react to that.

Spent the day trying to get a DIFFERENT version of Stalker amk ns working (made by some guy named Darius) that I downloaded for convenience, because his site was faster than megaupload. After a dozen CTDs due to running out of memory (apparently?), four or five reboots, and a couple futile registry edits, I am now redownloading the original version of NS I had working from megaupload. I haven't played a single videogame all day.

    Welp

Considering the PC version is roughly the same full-retail price as the PS3 version (£40/$60), it would appear getting the PS3 copy is the no-brainer. An interesting step towards cross-platform games being purchased independently of platform.

Where did you hear that Portal 2 would be $60 instead of $50 on PC?

Also lol the concept that PC gamers would be upset by their copies of Portal 2 not coming with a free PC copy of Portal 2, unlike that fancy pants PS3 version.

After playing NS, LURK is a MUCH nicer experience. Everything loads so much faster, it's unbelievable. My launch to game time with LURK is less than a quickload with NS, and everything's prettier on top of that. It has a spattering of new weapons (though a few of them are cheating and reusing models, like the AK variants), and different stats. The world feels far more lonely compared to NS, though. I miss the text updates you'd get whenever anything noteworthy (typically something you did) happened, with STALKERS gossiping with each other via txt: Stuff like "Don't go near the Cordon bridge checkpoint, I was hearing terrible screams!" (as I'm getting ripped apart by a pack of dogs).

I think I might stick with LURK, though. I had a good, simple, hassle-free fun time with it. After my first gameplay session though I went into the config files and restored carry weight limits to vanilla. LURK sets them to 35/40 max (from 50/60 max) and multiple runs back and forth between Sid's to sell the loot I need to in order to survive early game got boring.

Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl mod "AMK Nardonaya Soljanka"- or at least I tried. I installed it first last night but it was unplayably slow and jumpy, constantly stopping ingame to load. I stopped, and defragged my stalker folder as I slept, and actually got into gameplay this morning, but the loading times are still insanely long (a quickload to a save made two seconds previous in the same level, in the same situation, takes over a minute. In vanilla STALKER it's maybe 15-20 seconds), and the crashes and freezes are frequent, and the sources of instadeath, forcing you to load, are as common as dirt. There are some interesting things in there (the weapon count and new maps catch my attention: For a while today I was using an MP-7, the gun from Half-life 2), but I just can't take these technical issues. I got as far as Garbage, but just now the game locked up my video, requiring a restart, and I've hit my limit.

I want to replay Shoc, and want a "new" experience, but I also don't want "new" terrible technical issues. I'm installing LURK now, as I've heard good things. I hope this is marginally better, but the moddb's description of cutting carry weight has me bugged already. I feel like base STALKER has a great balance in the carry weight vs item weight system that makes you judge what you pick up without weight being an issue for what you carry out in the field, but so many modders find this system not hardcore enough, like the stupid COP Redux mod.
