this is no different to the modern warfare or crysis 2 map packs that are released. the game still has multiplayer maps, nobody is getting fucked out of anything.

if you want the maps you buy them, if you don't you play vanilla.

i really don't see where this is such a big deal, you just happen to know about the DLC before the game ships. you realise that DLC for modern warfare and other games is decided upon and in production before the game is officially released, right?

There's a big difference between DLC you can buy whenever and a preorder bonus that's in place specifically to make you preorder, availably only from preorder.

Buying games before they're out is dumb, splitting the playerbase because you're trying to make people buy games before they're out is dumb. DLC is a separate argument (the only DLC I've bought in recent memory is Killing Floor skins )

Movies don't actually have hundreds of separate people working on them, and for 90% of those people they don't need to be fully informed and get a full script anyway, and the movie industry takes lawyerin' more seriously by far than the games industry, and spoilers FAR more seriously. Nobody actually gives a shit about game spoilers.

who are the cunts doing all the leaking? why are we still employing people like that?

Well you see, Mr Kotick, when you get hundreds of people in four or five plus different studios of people from across the globe to work on a single project, that's a lot of people that need to be fully informed, lots of lips that need to be sealed, and a lot of prying eyes from support staff that might see something they shouldn't

lol rick defending dumb preorder bonuses good job

I'd rather have some more maps than a stupid doll they include in some preorder/limited editions. I mean, it's something you'd buy anyways... DLC is pretty big these days.

Better bang for your buck I'd say. And the whole "just include it in the game", yeah right... Why not push the release date back will ya. Time is money.

I consider it very foolhardy to preorder any game not by a very very very small select group of developers these days. Bad Company 2's launch was almost as bad as Brink's is now. Why should I pay extra for a worse version of the game just to get it early and with some pointless extra that 95% of other players can't experience? I was actually going to preorder Brink, because I was optimistic and they bumped it forward a week and ET is the best game ever, but I didn't have the cash on hand at the time, and now I'm glad, because Brink hates my generation of video card, and apparently AMD cards in general, with a passion. Once that game gets a few patches and is in a sale in a few months, then I'll have a really good new game. Until then I've got other stuff to play.

Pathologic. This game's pretty rough to you at the outset if you play the Haruspex instead of the Doctor. You're started off nearly dead, starving, with a reputation so bad the general men on the streets attack you on sight. Here, the only reason some of them aren't chasing me is that they're chasing that woman in the back (they'll rarely randomly do this, rapists I guess. I think it's to make you feel bad that you feel glad they're attacking someone else). The girl is trying to flee the violence. If you kill your attackers, that only hurts your reputation further. The low rep also makes the shops refuse you, putting medicine and food out of your reach. It takes the full first day to finally clear your name, running all around town, while everyone hates you.

It's a really big difference from the first day experience as the Doctor, which is a walk in the park in comparison.

Confirmed: silverballers and snakes. Is the rattlesnake also a weapon? Perhaps a way of making a death look like an accident?? Maybe it's a "don't tread on me" symbol, with 47 working with/against the Tea Party. The last bosses will be assassinating two oil billionaire brothers that have been pumping millions into anti-clone, anti-assassination protests.

    I have cracked the code

    Edit, from RPS:

"For the first time we are taking Agent 47 on a personal journey which allows us to explore other parts of the Hitman fantasy"

Hitmans 2 and 3 felt like pretty personal journeys, I mean 3 was nothing but 47's half accurate hallucinated memories of past jobs as he suffered from a bad injury. And Hitman 1 was "No you shut the fuck up dad" the video game.

For the PC people who can actually play it without technical issues (Currently the game dislikes dual core CPUs, sub-DX10 hardware, HD4000 series video cards, HBAO, and red heads, as far as I can tell from what I've have been posting) the game owns and feels mechanically a lot like Wolf: ET. Apparently Slash Damage is goin' nuts working on patches at the moment.

I don't yet have a copy, but then, since I have a budget cpu and 4670 video card, probably for the best to wait.

Reinstalled Hitman: Contracts last night. Was getting SA on every level up to Barhkov Bomb, wherein sometime after killing the second target (The Russian commander selling nukes to terrorists) his corpse vanished, and his ghost or something (47 just stared at the nearest wall) started talking to me, and then blew my cover as the terrorist nuke buyer. I swapped out to a guard outfit before any problems came up, and blew up the submarine, but then couldn't finish the mission, as the objective to kill the commander had unchecked itself. Pretty sure I was on track for SA, too.

There was a couple seconds in there that looks exactly like Hell's Kitchen, the basketball court where you can save a bum from getting robbed by thugs, and go on further down an alley and get access to a hidden entrance to the Smuggler.

He was playing on a gamepad but had a press e to use? Are there e's on pads?Nothing amazing, but certainly looked fun and enjoyable to me, and that's what counts.

Rage has been developed on and refined entirely on PC, but they're forcing all their employees and testers to use 360 pads so that the game feel is more Halo than Quake. They're trying to build Rage for a market they want but don't really know, instead of the market they traditionally have, and it's just a bit worrying. Not to mention sad. This is the company that pioneered selling PC games in China instead of just having them stolen by signing licence agreements with bootleggers.

I'm certainly disappointed by the compromising of the details, but they've satisfied me that they're going to address it by completely overhauling their system and bringing in three different security auditors/contractors to completely tighten it up. After something this disastrous I expect that whatever issues and lapses existed will be sorted out — unfortunately it often takes a huge fuck-up like this before companies realise the error of their ways.

They'll bring it up to date as of May 2011 standards, maybe.

Is it weird that I am completely mystified by people responding to "Sony leaked your personal details and put your credit card information possibly at risk" by "Man I'm so angry that I can't play my video games! Give me a free game Sony!"? The thing I want is 100% transparency in their new infrastructure and security, for starters. I want to know that if in two days, two months, or two years, an update is released for any bit of software they're using to potentially protect my crap, they're going to put in the effort and update that fucking software. Design your custom shit so that it doesn't break due to other system updates! I bet at the Sony offices they're still using Windows 2000 and IE5. Their internal support software just can't possibly run in XP or IE7. Vista!? Win7!?!?! ACTUALLY SECURE SOFTWARE!?!?!?!?!?! ABSURD! OUT OF THE QUESTION! WE CAN'T AFFORD TO IMPLEMENT THAT!

Nah, I guess it makes it even harder to trust em. I donno, it's a big turd no matter what.

From what I've heard the PSN servers were running Apache 2.2.3, a version from 2006. They haven't updated their infrastructure since the PS3 launched. They're not going to avoid that 'incompetent' label.
