Can't be very easy to make those destructible assets. I remember as Red Faction Guerrilla was coming out, there was an interview with someone at Volition where they said a few companies came to them looking to license Geo-Mod, and Volition said "Well, alright, this is what we have to go through to make all this breakable shit though..." and the deals fell through.

The Steam Overlay is the best feature and whenever I run into an old game I can't run through Steam, like Gothic 2 (GOG copy) or Shadowman (apparently this game is so old it doesn't actually use DirectX, but some sort of DirectDraw 3D hack?) It makes me sad and feel less likely to play the game.

What's SSR stand for? Can't find out through google. I see in the screenshot it has something to do with reflections.

Also that's definitely the most significant improvement from AO I've ever seen in a game. One of the only times I've ever actually seen it matter, actually. I had performance issues in RFA for the first two levels, looked in the option, and found I had AO turned on. I turned it off and instantly 60FPS with absolutely zero visible visual difference.

I get why people are worried that Kyd isn't scoring this one, his soundtracks added a lot of style to the games and are a huge part in the identity of the series. However when it comes to Bateson then I think he had so few lines in previous games that people are really overreacting.

I think a large part of it is the association of change from bateson for the Hitman Movie. The last time someone not Bateson tried to play 47 it was awful. I've been seeing unsourced rumors posted around claiming that IO has said they want the next Hitman game to tie into the movie/sequel more or something like that.

Here's an unrelated sample of Bateson's voice:

that is lame. i'm losing respect for io here..

I'm just confused. Wondering what's changed at IO in the four years since Blood Money (and how influential the known changes like Square Enix are), wondering who's making these calls, and wondering why.

    "Dear #### ,

Thank you! I am so pleased that you wrote this. David and I are feeling pretty disappointed about being dropped from Hitman 5. There are rumours that Keith Carradine will be the voice for Agent 47 ! And I have no idea who will play Diana... probably some American Hollywood actress with an American accent. I guess that is what they want for the next one - to make it feel and sound American. Personally I still don't understand why David did not play the role in the movie. He looks like Hitman and he is an incredibly good actor.

Anyway thanks again and please keep let IO know your feelings.. The Hitman fanbase is not to be ignored !

    best regards,

    Vivienne McKee"

I'm not sure what you mean about the dialog jetset, I thought it was pretty good Alice is voiced by the same woman who did the original, and she's British, so... Cheshire Cat is also voiced by the same guy as the original.

I didn't mean the voice acting, I meant the writing. For the pre-Wonderland scenes it's almost all just meaningless babbling. Especially how you go to Wonderland: You meet an old woman, cutscene with her babbling to herself about Alice incoherently, then you're on a roof for some reason? Then you walk up to the old lady and talk to her again, and suddenly, Wonderland.

Yeah, I went fffff. Though, the original one isn't there though, I think that was an exclusive to Origin.

The original game's a menu option inside the new one.

My verdict from playing through the first couple areas: Prettiest game so far this year. Terrible dialog, even worse than Pathologic's babblefish, with no excuse for Alice because American McGee's british and should know better. Shit controls on PC: left click swings knife, right click gets out and shoots pepper gun, which is insanely awkward to aim, jumping and aiming drops is based on analog controls with absolutely no work done to translate that to WASD, have to hold down left control for a bunch of stuff while you're moving around and exploring, etc. Get it in the bargain bin so you can see the spectacle, and mourn that the pretty shit's wasted on bad design.

Who in this industry has more money to burn than Zynga? Don't forget that Steam already has an integrated web browser... Anyway, I really hope I'm just being paranoid and nothing of this ever happens.

And Zynga wouldn't need to pay anything to use that integrated browser, any more than any other website needs to "pay" valve to use that browser. The only they'd theoretically gain from a Steam deal would be the advertisement of being on the steam store front page, which would have questionable value (how much of Farmville's potential market is really playing full PC games on Steam and doesn't yet use facebook?), and would make the anti-casual crowd rage and hoot and holler.

Well, I have heard that EA have removed Crysis 2 from steam because steam have proposed some business plan that was not compatible with Crysis 2.It's linked to the new announcement of Steam which allow now micro transactions in game ?

Well, I don't know, but this story is strange. It smell conspiracy !

Steam's microtransaction system is the same system that's been in place for ages for TF2 hat purchases. It's been part of the system since long before Crysis 2's release. You read some bull, dawg.

Pulling your games from the only DD service that isn't a steaming pile of crap? Just to preserve your sales margins a bit? Dumb move, EA.

Gamersgate and GOG are both really good, actually, and have a ton of games Steam doesn't (weird eastern european shit and old shit, respectively). But nobody can come close to matching the features steamworks gives a game. And nobody's gonna view making a game unavailable where it previously was for sale in a positive light. And I've yet to hear one single solitary good thing about EADM/Origin.

I got drunk and played a Left 4 Dead 2 scrim last night. We won! : Right up until the finale the scores were less than 50 points from each other after every single map, then we managed to get two tanks into the Dark Carnival finale (it burned to death from me lighting it with a mollie just as our last guy was incapped), and then we took them out with our first tank, before they got outdoors.

The latest Edge says David Bateson (previous voice actor for 47) was no longer working on Hitman: Absolution. Lots of people have been sending him emails to confirm.

    Quote from David Bateson

Hi JamesThe truth is: I have no idea what's going on. No one at IO Interactive are taking my calls, e-mails or answering my sms. I go to bed and wake up to hundreds of e-mails all asking me if I still to voice Agent 47.

Shit feeling inside, right now. Maybe I will know more on Monday

    Kind regards

    David

I actually hated dual wielding in 2 because in 1 switching between plasmids and weapons meant you could use your mousewheel to scroll through both, depending on what you had active, while in 2 you couldn't scroll through plasmids anymore, at least on the same controls, which was annoying and not worth the 'advantage' of being able, although never needing nor wanting to, use a plasmid at the same time as you were shooting a gun.

I know its cool to hate on Modern Warfare, but this seriously does look shit. Graphics are good, yes, but the gameplay looks awful.... It's fucking annoying that they are getting away with recycling the same old stuff over and over. I enjoyed the first few games, but come on.......

Didn't look good to me. All super ultra grey. The explosions look nice but nowadays explosions look nice in every game. Even in ugly ass GTA4 explosions look ace.
