You make Nottingham sound like the UK's Canada lol

So did you guys fly out to Philadelphia to get references and experience? Did you get scared by "urban" people and run away? I hear the British are notoriously fearful of others.

Crytek more like CRYCRY LOL RIGHT?
We all love eachother here. I think it's a safe environment to say what you feel without anyone flying off the rails and taking offence. I invite any of you here to try and stomach the NS2 forums for any length of time, it's full of ricks. The core is nothing.

A friend of mine bought me a copy of NS2 because he loves it and wanted me to play with him. I played two matches and hated it, the team I was on both times just got stomped lol

I don't think you can comment on the gameplay based on Crytek's history at all, since it's an entirely different universe, one that's probably lacking in the nanosuits and aliens department. Homefront 1 was boring, imo, because it was too scripted and hand-holdy, to the point that in some areas you could easily look around and see the edge of the map because they didn't even expect you to look over to the side when walking across a street or whatever. Homefront 2 being Free Radical and being open world are both huge positive potential points. Hopefully the game gets the time it needs to shine.

Interesting that it's set in Philadelphia. I can see it in the skyline and the poor suburb house design a bit in the screenshots. Philly is by far one of the most European-esque cities in America (because it's so fucking old), and plenty of interesting environments and landmarks imo. Also woodlands and wetlands very close to the city. Philadelphia International Airport is actually on a place south of the city called "Hog Island," lol.
Now, some of the thematic shit might get... tricky, though. Philadelphia has a large immigrant Asian population, including Korean neighborhoods and a Chinatown. Hopefully that doesn't play into things "Japanese Americans during WW2" style, and we see Asian people on the resistance side besides just enemies.
Edit: In general I hope the game's racial cast is diverse, considering Philadelphia is not majority white, they're roughly 1/3 of the city's population.

I've put it down until that PC optimization patch Ubisoft announced comes out. Thankfully State of Decay just released its "Lifeline" DLC that adds a brand new environment, so I've got something to fill my time. Hopefully that's good

It's kind of impressive how ugly the minimum settings make this game, while still doing absolutely nothing to change framerate lol. For the low settings it looks like they just computationally cut poly counts and downresed textures without any polish, and it looks like absolute garbage. Like how games back in 2004/5 used to do it, before shaders and post-processing and resolution started to be the primary heavy hitters of performance.

I think that might be the most generous I've ever seen you be for a console-focused release, Dux

I agree that the designs felt a bit conservative. RTCW had those enemies with their lower half replaced by a big shock thingy, for example, or zombies. I can respect The New Order's shying away from the supernatural though, it seems like a deliberate and thought out choice for the sake of the story, and I feel like so many story choices in games are made due to time constraints or just as an excuse for an already created bit of content that a game that feels 'holistic' like The New Order does is nicely refreshing.

I'm gonna take a break and play something else before doing a "Wyatt" run.

Also my issue with play styles reminds me: Certain weapons are too undervalued near the end of the game. Mechanical enemies, which are the real foes between cannonfodder in the last third of the game, barely take damage from bullets compared to explosives or especially lasers: You can kill a super soldier with a single charge of the Kraftwerk laser gun with its multi-shot scope mode, or dump 4+ clips worth of assault rifle ammo into its face without visibly making a scratch. Having some weapons be better for some situations is a cool thing, but the difference should maybe not be so drastic. I got stuck for a long time at a certain checkpoint in a trainyard because I hit the autosave checkpoint right before activating two super soldiers with no charge in my laser gun. It took an enormous and aggravating amount of effort, and over a dozen reloads, to get past the fight.
On the flip side, because the laser guns are so extremely powerful I didn't even realize the shotgunner enemies are supposed to be hard until nearly the end of the game, because the laser rifle was my default "running around" gun so I happened to just one-shot them whenever they popped up until the second to last level, when the high number of enemies eventually led me to try and take one on point blank while dual wielding ARs, and failing miserably, haha

My very first death in the game was caused by control issues (crouch defaults to control, you need to do a running slide to avoid a robodog, hitting W, Shift, and Control at the same time is awkward). After rebinding/configuring stuff (I appreciated that rebinding crouch from control to c automatically rebound weapon mode from c to control), I was pretty much fine, though. Game ran fantastically well on mostly high on my older PC, while still looking fantastic. IMO The Idtech 5 engine fit this game way better than Rage, the issues like a lack of dynamic lighting are a lot less obvious in a linear FPS than in an "open world" game.
I just finished it today. Pretty damn good game.
I would say that perhaps my biggest complaint is that between London Nautica and the Gibraltar Bridge, there's very few chances to find situations where you can meet many of the perk requirements. There's no Marksmen Rifle between those two stages at all, for example, and you need to get 25 kills with it for the Quick Reload perk. I really appreciated the varied settings and gameplay, I just wish that gap between moments where it was even possible to do certain gameplay styles was smaller. -
I took a 3d art course last year, and it focused 90% on special effects and renders in Blender, and did not touch on anything relevant to importing work into a development environment.

The details released about Naval Strike (cool sounding new maps, and a return of Titan mode!) broke me down into buying Premium last night. This morning I found all the Premium rewards thus far waiting for me to open them: 9 Premium battlepacks and 4 gold ones. I got this from the final gold one:

Instantly made my purchase feel worth it. The China Rising maps were very underwhelming last night, but a 2x FLIR scope for my favorite gun? Yes please!

I got to stop playing this piece of shit game, though. It crashes every twenty minutes or so, and saves constantly, and whenever you load your save it teleports you home. However, your car and anything on your back stays behind. This fucking BLOWS. I would seriously rather a more conservative save system that only saves in safe places (you can create mini ones in most houses by searching them thoroughly) then this stupid fucking always on system that means that I'm constantly getting stranded at my own home due to fucking teleportation.

I bought State of Decay during the steam sale, and just now my dude was ripped in half before my eyes by one of those Jockey looking monsters who ambushed me after I needed to use my gun to survive a zombie horde. I was like 30 seconds away from home, too. This shit is depressing.

I'd like to try this game already, but I've heard so much complaints how things break and crash, I'm not really convinced to buy it yet. Why "always the same old CoD" seems to work rather stable while the "always the awesome Battlefield" has stability issues?

The infamy BF4 is getting lead to me being able to buy it for half off for black friday, so I'm happy
I've barely got time to play games anyway. Next week are my finals, and then I'm going to be traveling sans PC for the holidays. -
Realism when it's fun/interesting, not when it's boring or lame. Having "realistic" vehicle entry and exit times would be just as not fun as "realistic" slowly bleeding out on the battlefield after taking non-core fire. I can bring a man back from the grave with some shock paddles as I bunny hop past him to avoid enemy fire, that's fun but it's not realistic.

Payday 2's a p fun game.

BF3 was a huge improvement on BC2 IMO, especially in level design and balance. As much as people complain about air in every BF game I found myself getting killed by helicopters a lot less in BF3 than BC2. Now in BF4, I'm getting constantly killed by jets as infantry, which is just fucking weird.

-
From session to session my performance varies wildly. Some times the game runs just as well as BF3 did for me. Others, it's a stuttery soundless mess. These two poles are, unfortunately, about equal in how often they happen.
