Bought XCOM Enemy Within DLC, and a Don't Starve two pack so far. ![]()
Quote from DazeThank you Jetsetlemming and Marcem for some more educated posting. Seriously considered leaving the forum, found myself too baffled to even respond.
Videogames, like the other tech industries/products, attracts/is full of a lot of fairly sheltered white boys. I don't necessarily blame them for their views, as much as I just find it sad. They're like the dirt poor people on government aid in the South who constantly vote Republican: They grew up in and are every day surrounded by a culture that tells them that the things they're fighting are pure evil, and will take away what little they have if they lose that fight.
Feminism isn't anti-man, and it sure as hell isn't "women are inferior" (lmao dude what), any more than "anti-racist is code for anti-white." Nerdy boys would thrive in a feminist world, as they would be free of the stifling, strangling implicit demand of masculine gender roles put upon them. Sadly, they're convinced that in a feminist world their already poor chances of getting laid would drop to nil.
Thankfully I'm in a long term relationship with a woman and can thus betray my gender without fear. ![]()

Did you watch and pay attention to the whole video? Because the argument you're making is one she covered directly near the end. Your media consumption does, in fact, affect you, and the more you think that it is actually mere entertainment with no consequences, the more vulnerable you are to being affected. That's not a videogame specific thing, that's an all media thing, from advertisements to action movies to word gender associations. I remember seeing a study about how Germans and Spanish people described bridges. In German, bridges are feminine. Not by nature, necessarily, but simply by language. In Spanish, on the other hand, bridge is a masculine noun. When asked to describe the same picture of a bridge, Germans described it with feminine terms like "graceful," and Spaniards with masculine ones like "strong." "Key" is the opposite, masculine in German and feminine in Spanish. When asked to describe the same picture of a key, the Germans described it as "sharp" and "useful," while the Spanish described it as "shiny," and "lovely."
I'm sorry to break this to you, steppenwolf. Your purchasing decisions are probably also influenced by ads, even the dumb stupid ones you consciously dislike.
Quote from Furyo- Scrap Splinter Cell like shadow/light stealth mechanic, implement actual visibility cones a la Dishonored
I don't remember how Dishonored worked, do you mean as far as the information given to the player on their HUD, or stealth mechanics? Thief has always relied on the player's sense of space/awareness to tell the 'visibility cone' of a guard, with the important info being the darkness level around you, especially since in T1 and T2 the graphics were muddy and 16-bit color so it was hard to tell sometimes.
Quote from BeckIs this for some big update that's coming soon?
That was seriously well made tough. Would love to see a full length movie from Valve!
Yeah, "Love and War" update. So far they've shown MMO-style emotes like dancing. Presumably some of the stuff in that video (which was really good, btw) like the Derringer will be added to the game, too. Maybe even a breadmonster boss mode.
I think it's fairly ok. It's just looks like a poor value proposition, imo, with BF4 still so recent, and the sticker price at 60 dollars. I've still got new BF4 content supposedly coming that I've already payed for, why would I drop $60 (plus premium, no doubt) for what feels like kinda new, kinda rehashed BF4 content?
"Depths of Fear : Knossos", after seeing it referenced on Rock Paper Shotgun. It's a roguelike dungeon crawler first person horror RPG type thing. You're Thesseus, son of Poisodon, entering the Labyrinth of Minos to slay the Minotaur, to prevent anyone else from being sacrificed to it. There's a bunch of other Grecian monsters down there, and you must enter their special areas off the Labyrinth hub map in order and kill them before you can tackle the Minotaur.
So far it's fun. You have a torch that, thankfully, does not run out or get extinguished, but it does draw attention to you if it's lit. You can light and extinguish your torch at will, but the Labyrinth is super fuckin dark without it. There's gold and 'knowledge' (books) around, and with them you can buy things from Daedalus (with gold, accessible between levels) or favors from the gods (as far as I can tell single cast spells, bought with knowledge points at altars hidden randomly in the levels). It kinda reminds me of Arx Fatalis, atmosphere-wise. Technically it's not great: It's got a limited list of resolutions supported, none 16:10 (my monitor ratio), and it freezes unrecoverably if you alt/tab or minimize it. I'd recommend it though, if you want something "different" from most of what's coming out lately. It's only $6, too.

That's not surprising at all to me, Prescribing the environmental affects/status during their demo is an obvious choice compared to leaving it random or waiting around until the conditions are ideal pretty. Actually, I find that bit actually evidence in favor of that e3 demo being less bullshit than a lot of people have assumed.
They did already admit to the PC port having issues due to the game expecting console-esque unified memory.
Maybe Ubi will bring that guy on team, like From did with the DSFix guy for DS2, lol
Quote from Vilhamopen "beta" considering it is literally identical to bf3/4 with just a skin change I don't really know what they are testing.
Every time you play the "Beta" origin pops up a thing saying "Like it? Preorder it!". I think it's basically a demo, I don't even see any way to report bugs: Earlier today I saw a dude laying down (just revived I think?) slide quickly across the floor distractingly while his teammate shot at me.
Man, I just realized: They still haven't even put out enough DLC for Battlefield 4 to make up the cost of Premium. They've only released three, at $15 each. That's $45 of content, for a $50 season pass. Ugh
I was very surprised to see in the preorder thing this was a $60 game. Battlefield 4 just came out and is still deep in the thickets, customer satisfaction-wise.
I played a half dozen rounds last night. It was actually pretty ok. BF4's performance varied a lot based on the map for me, with the urban maps playing way worse. Hardline's downtown LA ran like a rural map from BF4 for me, which was an improvement. It was nearly identical in many ways to BF4, though. Same engine, same graphical options and quality by the looks of it. Similar teams, guns, equipment, gameplay, etc. There's a zip line and a grappling hook now, but I didn't get to use them yet. Only significant difference I saw is that some stuff is gated by earning money and buying it, instead of leveling up.
This doesn't really seem to be enough to make an impression on the general gamer population of "This is a totally new game worth $60!", especially since the BF4 saga's still ongoing. Seems like a PR nightmare.
Did Thief 4 get patches / post release support? Because I would like to play it, but I'm reluctant due to all the technical stuff I heard when it came out.
Is it confirmed exclusively exclusive?
Oh and Far Cry 4 looked like it had all the cool fun bits of Far Cry 3, plus mountains. Looks nice.
Rainbow Six Seige looked awesome. I'm confused as to why Tom Clancy's The Division has an old dead fascist's name on it. New Zelda was jaw dropping. I have no faith in Doom anymore. I hope I get into the Battlefield: Hardline beta. It might be fun, but it definitely looked like something I want to play before putting money into. Also, lol, the level of destruction and mayhem in that footage. They turned "Robbing some armored cars" into "One of the greatest terrorist attacks in human history," that moment with the sky crane especially lmao
