Did anyone made it possible to build all around the map?

    Yeah the console did

    player.placeatme c1aeb

It'll spawn a workbench where ever you're standing (typically off kilter and half sunken into the dirt like a relic). Doesn't work if there's enemies nearby, or if the game has bugged and thinks there's enemies nearby maybe, but eh. Close enough. No settlers or anything like that, but you can build and scrap whatever you want.

e: except for most things that aren't scrappable, they only bothered to make decoration that are used in settlements and things you can pick up and move scrappable, sadly. Hopefully a mod adds that data to all the props so we can properly strip shit bare.

  • You can now sell content through Steam Workshop

I feel like the big problem, and it has been a big fucking problem for Steam for a long time before this modding stuff ever came up, is their refusal to take responsibility and judge shit. The best indie/mod work going on for Valve right now is with CS:GO, and is that a free-for-all? No. It's carefully selected fantastically made maps added and advertised ingame, with new ones introduced and promoted on a cycle. I've loved the content that program has introduced to my game, and I never would've experienced any of it if it was buried under a mountain of crap and priced piecemeal. Stores have to work to weed out what they are selling, because everything you are selling, regardless of if you want it to or not, reflects on you. People get mad at Steam when they buy a promising game that never gets updated or turns out to be misrepresented garbage, not just the developers.

There's tons of people with stars in their eyes and the ability to browse the Unity asset store publishing on Steam without any business, programming, or customer support skills. This is Valve's fault. Most people suck, that's not something to shrug about if you're inviting those sucky people to be on your storefront and pushing their garbage to your customers. If Valve had even the slightest minimum standard of quality things had to demonstrate before being available to put money into, then I seriously doubt the "debate" about the mod situation would've gone as poorly. As it is, people just (probably rightly) saw it as a further extension of the plague on Steam Greenlight.

    Three thoughts:

    1) Good luck replacing my job (scientist), asshole.

    2) I have a lot of trouble taking anything someone says seriously when they represent themselves via a stick figure man

    3) People aren't horses (or stick figures). Creating societal roles for horsies isn't the kind of thing that is an obvious goal for a human society, unlike, say, creating roles for people.

    I lied, fourth thought:

    4) At least we can get jobs making youtube videos and raking in the ad money. In the dystopian future, Google will be the new Walmart, reigning as the number one employer.

    lol.

holy shit this looks good. It's like the very best of Doom 2 and Duke3d, wow. I love its use of having 'dated' graphics on modern hardware lets it be way more liberal with effects and their being persistent. The few times where he backtracks through a level and it's still completely covered in blood, gore, smoke, and fire? So good.

How fast were the melee animations? They can be all well and good visually, but hopefully they're quick half second affairs rather than full "couple of moment" struggles that fuck up flow and let the other enemies get plenty of hits in.

Any multiplayer game is going to have a ton of customer service staff, though.

I'm not surprised that Ryse hurt Crytek, considering it was rushed out for the launch of a flop console. It's certainly not the first time a publisher tanked a developer's future for their own short term goals. I would be shocked if they'd managed to break even on that project, considering how expensive it looked and how panned it was.

Personally, I can't imagine any console exclusivity contract being worth it for any developer not owned by the platform holder, or without some kind of contingency clause where the publisher takes on the risk of the project, due to the artificially restricted sales.

This is a pretty damaging rumor, regardless of merit, for any public company. Feel sorry for Crytek.

Also Betrayer, on sale for the next hour for $4, is really good. Nice exploration and investigation based gameplay in a Roanoke Colony type setting. Very beautiful game, and I really dig how they let you fuck with the light and color saturation on the fly to set a mood you want.

anyone know of any games on sale that have good or creative environment art direction? I don't mean impressive visual fidelity but just games that have a unique feel to the environments. So hard to pick out games in the summer sale!

Depths of Fear: Knossos. It's set in the Labyrinth of the Minotaur, which has been altered to house a dozen other famous Greek monsters like the Hydra and Satyr, with randomly generated stages with different themes. It's like $2 right now.

Beat Depths of Fear: Knossos. At the end, the Minotaur was disappointingly easy to beat after a fairly difficult game to get to him, since smacking him with the magic macguffin sword (Just the gladius retextured ) stuns him.

Man I really wish Metro 2033 would have played out in a STALKER like sandbox instead. I would have so much fun just going between the different metro stations collecting weapons and doing shit, before going to the end of each line to shit my pants from whatever terror they could dream up there...

Yeah, Metro was too scripted in the ways that Stalker at least FELT natural. The NPCs in COP felt like the most natural, realistic NPCs I've ever seen, because their canned animations expressing their emotions were based on dynamic experiences rather than scripted and voice acted events. Seeing a dude surrounded by corpses wearing similar clothes, his head in his hands, is a really moving moment in COP that feels run of the mill in most games, where you know those corpses were just placed there for set design, rather than previously living NPCs that had been killed by dynamic bad luck.

Good game, especially with all the content updates it gets. I haven't counted but it feels like they've over doubled the number of missions in the game, with some reusing levels, and others adding large complex new ones.

Finally someone talking some sense on this silly fucking thread.

What's the point, really? What is there to gain? Change?

Awareness. The videos are about education, not advocacy.

    Hahahahaha, no.

No they are fucking not. They are entirely about her grabbing attention, much like most media. How naive you must be to think otherwise.

Seriously look at this thread for 1 fucking second, you have a bunch of MEN saying this is a huge issue for women, 1 woman saying this is a huge issue for women and a bunch of MEN saying it isn't.

How about stand the fuck back and let women as a group push this if it is an issue for them, or aren't they capable?

Whatever your clearly very informed and rational opinion might be, everything Sarkesian has put out for Tropes vs Women has been framing it as an educational video series, exploring common themes that are reflective of problematic views about women.

I'm baffled by your point about gender. The majority of the participants in this discussion about feminism on a forum about videogame level design are dudes, or at least let you think they're dudes because being a woman on the internet, especially in places where dudes are being hostile to feminism, isn't a nice experience. This proves what for you, exactly?
