  • How You Got Into The Industry

Well, that's kinda easy for me.

I'm mapping since 2002 (on 3d engines). I'm still a student, I'm going to study Game Design in one year (after my last High-School year) in an Inforgraphy school based on Montpellier. After these 3 years, I'm planning to work for some other companies, well, I hope.

For school, same as Hourences, I find it really boring and useless, since it's not showcasing your "artist skills".

I got into Streum on Studio because a friend of mine (also working there since the beginning of the game developement) asked me to join them (they needed someone else to help them). I just sent an email to the project leader without hope, mainly because I don't really find my levels to be "outstanding quality" and such (I'm not really pleased with some of them to be honest). I got a response hours later and I got into the developement team. The project leader was really impressed by my works (still I don't really find my works impressive, compared to awesome things I see here everyday at mapcore for example) and I began working on some levels that needed some additional work (though I'm working on my own level now).

    That's my tale.

You caught a NS-esque feel in your map.

I need to check ES out.

I'm really looking forward into this game. Too bad they didn't show it at E3. *waits*

His map Someplace Else is still one of the best HLSP maps ever.

    Have a good one, dude.

Hey Mino, I spotted two things today when I was playing the map (again):

    [Blocked Image: http://pix.nofrag.com/f/d/d/904b324cf4ac750cd698df76a4fc7t.jpg]

Ew, I saw that in the left corridor of the office capture point. I think it's a common decal problem.

In the U.S. spawn, there's a displacement issue at the left exit.

FIX THAT OR MY WRATH WILL BE TERRIBLE

Hahaha yes, when I played Q4 for the first time, there was green everywhere.

Maybe your video card is outdated, I had the same problem. I changed it for a new, better one, and everything was fixed.

Quake 4 is a nice game and really catchs the feeling of the good ol' Quake 2 (though Quake 1 is still my favorite game in the Quake series).

Concerning Rage now, damn, it looks gorgeous, it looks like Fallout indeed. ID Tech 5 is really incredible.

    I just played it.

Yeah in fact this map DOES kick ass. It runs very well on my computer and the gameplay is great. I just spotted a few bugs though.

In the last house in the Insurgents spawn, the left window has something like a nodraw face.

On the bridge, there's an overlapping texture near the middle. I think your displacement overlaps with the bridge structure.

Great work, and all your maps look promising! Keep it up!

I played it today on a full server.

    Man, this map is brilliant!

I didn't see anything odd, everything is right and well built, the gameplay works perfectly and it's really well balanced. I had fun killing people from these backstreets.

    Great work!

Oh shit, awesome man! I'm really looking forward to the game, since I'm an absolute fan of Cameron's movie (and the Alien universe of course).

By the way, I've been hired at Streum On Studio, a french company, I'm now working on their Source Engine based game, E.Y.E

    The second.

Well, actually we don't really know about the storyline to be honest. Maybe the game will become darker and darker as you progress into the game.

I'm a bit disappointed too in the brightness and colorful environment, but I'm sure Blizzard will take community's advices concerning the aesthetics.

They did it for StarCraft II because it looked way too cartoonish at first (even if I prefer the old version of the Space Platform tileset, the blue-ish one, it was really sexy) and now when I look at some screenies I really feel the gritty, rusty atmosphere of StarCraft.

    Wait & see.
