Thanks yeah lighting was a bit of a bugbear to be honest, basically i did what you've just suggested with it a while ago but i had to have some comprimise in there. Every single sign/light source in the scene has it's own light associated with it, and all the sign lights have a radius so as not to overpower each other and so the colours could be seperated nicely. Due to this the radii (??) couldn't be too far reaching, so didn't reach a lot of the cars on the road, or at least weren't bright enough to light them up.

Therefore most of the lighting affecting the models had to come from the ambient light and the moonlight. I didn't really put any moonlight in there as it made the scene too bright and i wanted a dark and moody theme across the level, and the ambient had to be kept low as i had dark underground subway areas and whatnot that i wanted to stay that way.

I tried to seperate the underground and above areas with colour correction zones so i could have one brighter and one dark, yet i encountered a bug where if i smashed some of the glass in the scene the colour correction would turn off altogether, and i couldn't get around this, so i ended up using one set of colour correction for the entire level.

So overall i had to reach a middleground where all the signs were giving off 'some' light, yet the scene was still dark enough and the models were lit just enough so as not to appear way too dark

I've had a map sitting on my PC for a while now that I made for Neotokyo, not often that I release full maps so I thought I'd post it on here so you guys can give it a go and let me know what you think. For those of you with Neotokyo the download link is below, cheers, feedback is more than welcome

Was jsut watching some trailers for it, looks REALLY cool. Then it goes inside the cockpit with the driver and... oh dear. It looks like their budget ran out when it came to modelling and animating the driver

The driver looks fine At least Dirt has shifting animations (NFS Shift) and windshields in the cockpits (Forza) Plus the driver bounces around while driving and the co-driver does too, i actually think they're animated well. If you play Forza 3 and look at the drivers in their cars they are sat rigid and bolt upright, no animations at all really

That's the thing yeah, not a fan either and still this title is sort of a must have.

That was part of the aim i think, mass market appeal and accessibility, which i think it does really well. My brother loves it and he's never played a racing game before. Games like Forza are great if you love your car porn, but for the full on racing package and just the pure fun aspect of it all, Dirt does really well

I realise i sound like i work in promotions by the way but i don't see anything wrong with actually liking a title i worked on I'd have enjoyed this game even if i had nothing to do with it, as i did with Dirt 1

Bit of blatent promotion here but thought i'd make a thread on Dirt 2 which is out in 3 weeks, it's the first game i've worked on in the industry since i joined Codies a year ago. The demo is out tomorrow on 360 and ps3 and features two tracks, two cars (no rally, rallycross or raid events), and one of the tracks in the demo (Morocco Trailblazer) is one of mine. Theres a comp being run on it whereby the top ten fastest lap times submitted win some neat prizes including some limited edition Dirt2 branded DC shoes.

Details of the comp are here: http://www.facebook.com/dirt2game

and the video of a fellow level designer setting the fastest lap is here:

If the game has bypassed anyone and you're a racing fan, the E3 trailer is here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09 ... 50253..has a slightly dodgy frame-rate but thats GameTrailers fault

Well the model is a simple brushbased plane as it was only meant to be seen from far away. The theme of the battle is such that images are supposed to contain something that you dont notice at first glance, but then you suddenly see it and think 'that's not right'..hence it being far away. It also would help if i hadnt posted the second image, as after seeing the explosion people end up going back to the first image and then noticing the plane...basically though in the map battle people would be examining the first picture for something that isn't right, and would then notice it, so in that respect it works

Also the REC being faded wasn't deliberate lol, something to do with the HDR, the overlay kept flickering, but glad you like it...basically we are unable to edit images at all for these battles so everything must be done in Hammer, so i used overlays to achieve the camera outline, and moved the mouse about while taking the shot to achieve the blur effect. I cant add more distortion unless i add it onto the overlay really

Oh also it's not a plane crash, its a plane dropping bombs

Thx guys, no compiler problems no, the first scene takes 5 mins to compile (+5 for HDR) and the second takes 30 with the added explosion and lighting effects. I did reach the max plane count at one point but sorted that...it runs well as a scene and not a map as the backs of all the buildings dont exist, and also it's not as big as it all looks, i faked the perspective on the city.

WIPs for the 'Something not right' map battle over at interlopers, 'the somethings not right' being the plane in the background in the first pic about to ruin a couples day:

Plant pots are floating Also first and second shot, the room is too dark. You need to add more light by the windows as its not dark outside and you have lit dust particles floating about, but no light.... outside shot looks nice and dirty

Ok finally got around to playing this, gotta say this is some great work here HP, really got me back into Crysis! Some points i noted while playing:

    - I liked the whole rock climbing aspect of it, thought it broke up the action well and allowed for more use of the suit abilites

    - Was there meant to be a way into the base with the chopper? I couldn't find a way in and didnt bother killing the chopper, i just ran away..is it just there to divert you from that base?

    - The submarine was cool, i liked how you can enter it and explore its good for stocking up on (lots of) weapons before attempting the next base section

    - Occasionally birds dive bomb into the ground and sea, whilst quite funny, is this meant to be happening?

    - The wooden wheels that roll around and down hills are a nice addition

    - Was nice and long, took me a good hour to make my way around it

    Couple of bugs:

    - These caves seemed a bit strange compared to the rest of the mine section...something about the way they are lit or textured seems odd, see picture to see if you know what i mean, the shadows/lighting looks a bit triangular on the walls in the dark and theres a bit of texture stretching in places it looks like:

    http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/1684 ... 016pu4.jpg

    - I fell down a hole while crossing over to the large base inside the volcano, i took some shots of it, you fall half way down it then can jump out of it but if you mistime the jump you fall to the bottom and can't get out:

Its by this patch of ivy:

    overlooking this base:

    http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/9638 ... 009zv4.jpg

Sorry i can't be more specific about where it is, its a large island

Great work though i really think you stand a good chance in the contest, some shots follow, i was using your config as well, made my gun a bit dark at times? :

Some shots are taken in editor, and some in game with post processing on intense, could be why. Also i'm leaving the lighting as the last thing to sort out properly, after i finish adding all the content..

Quakis..i'll think about it Well see how it all goes

Nice image there I think i get what you mean, so you mean the left arm, instead of being positioned in mid air, would actually be partially underwater and the hand would be holding a small island? I mean, there are options for the hands, but whether they fit into the big picture or not at the end i'll have to decide, it might be that they just end up standing out too much...plus overall on forums i had more negative comments regarding them than positive
