blackdog I wouldn't jump to recommend either of those to be honest, as we said the other day Falling Skies is very much a filler show, I think I might give up on it actually, the opening episodes this season weren't amazing. The Killing is good though, am enjoying season 3 so far. Don't know if I'd recommend it though as it is a pretty bleak show, it's not for everyone

Hannibal. Thoroughly recommended, great production values and characters and has just been renewed for a second season.

Found the first one really disappointing, despite being a big fan of the LOTR trilogy. Was too childish, unfunny and the characters weren't as likeable as the LOTR ones. The first 45 mins or so of the film were some of the worst cinema I've sat though in a few years (dwarf dinner party scene was cringy). The only really good bit was when Gollum turned up but that was over too quick. I do hope this new one is better but I don't have high hopes for it anymore

Microsoft are annoying me now, it seems they are purposely shooting themselves in the ass.. I WANT to get an Xbox One, just because I had a 360 and loved it... But now it looks like I'm gonna be going PS4. Fucking god damn.

Same here, I've been such a 360 fanboy this generation (even though I own a PS3 too but only use it for exclusives) that I actually feel a little embarrassed now about wanting a PS4 more than the XB1. Damn you Microsoft

So the PS4 is 399 USD? So £256? Certainly sounds more appealing than the Xbox at £425 (incl. XBL subscription), if I've got those figures right. Just another reason I may convert to Playstation for next gen I guess

Yeah I think it was a bad idea for them to spread the Rosie Larson case over two seasons, they lost fans in the second season because they dragged it out, they should have just stuck to a one case per season formula. Not sure what happened as it did get cancelled, and then renewed again, but I'm glad it's back anyway

I saw the first two episodes of the Killing last night, they were pretty good, I think they've freshened it up suitably and it's good that they ditched that Rosie Larson case. Falling Skies is something I watch, but I'm never sure how good it actually is. It's definitely under par compared to some of the other shows around, kinda like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad etc are in the TV Premiership but Falling Skies is in the Championship. It's enjoyable enough but the effects are a bit ropey and I question how much influence Spielberg actually has over it.

Also I need to watch Fringe, I have the last two seasons to watch I think, surprised I've managed not to spoil it for myself yet

I've watched the first 4 episodes of the new season of Arrested Development and they were pretty unfunny and a bit boring - does the season get better or should I just stop watching now?

Technically Nysuatro I'd hope to be in front of you in the line as I worked on it I don't even think I'm getting a free copy though, will have to pay £15 We always said if we won the lottery in our CM level design syndicate we'd all get electric cars and top hats and drive around the car park in them...this is one step towards our dream (just need the lottery winning bit now)

My issue with it all isn't that they didn't show any games, but some of the things they did show and say. Things like 'a highlight of the Xbox One will be a Steven Spielberg produced Halo TV series'...how is that a highlight of a games console? I like TV, I like Spielberg, but still...Also, apparently you'll be able to play music, and games, at the same time?! Why would I want to play music over a game? That'd be like playing music over a film surely, does anyone actually do this?

Also the fact that the Kinect is required for use is annoying, my lounge wasn't big enough for the old Kinect, and now you're telling me the new Xbox won't function without one? Guess I'm going to have to move house. Kinect was a bit of a gimmick on release, I had some fun playing bowling with it for about a week and then it went into a cupboard and I never let it out again. Quite why MS feel it's justifiable to force it down people's throats with the Xbox One I'm not sure..

The most irritating thing though for me is the second hand games issues. Yes it's good for the games industry as a business, but as a consumer who buys and plays a lot of games (even the crap ones, just for reference) and relies on being able to trade them in shortly after purchase for near-full price this is seriously making me consider a PS4 next gen. I know you will still be able to buy second hand Xbox games, and pay a fee to unlock them, but I can't see this being too cheap (will probably be a least a tenner, to replace the online passes), which defeats the point of buying games pre-owned. If the Xbox One games are around £25 quid brand new, then maybe I'll re-consider it, but I don't think that's going to happen, in fact they'll probably be more expensive brand new than current gen games are, such is the way normally.

I think it's more of a blatant re-hash than a deliberate re-imagining...as a fan of Pitch Black (and less so of the sequels) I was looking forward to it from the teaser trailer, but a bit less so from that new one. I don't know, it just looks kind of crappy...the effects are pretty ropey (though yes they have time to work on those) - it just looks like none of the characters actually exist within their environment, especially during that weird slow-mo flipping fight sequence, it looks like they are fighting on a set, like something out of the old Star Treks. The second part of the trailer with the monsters is better, but still nothing that wasn't done similarly (and better by the looks of it) in Pitch Black.

Yeah I watch POI, it's clearly a key point of reference for those guys. I noticed they even did their own version of the POI city-wide CCTV camera montage that appears between scenes in the TV show, in their last trailer:

I think you misunderstood my point, I'm not instructing anyone on how to do anything. All I was saying was that on a basic level the main purpose of a game is to be enjoyed and it'd be nice if more people simply appreciated that games existed and people work hard to make them fun, rather than bitching and moaning about them and condemning them before playing them based on their name. I don't think that's silly of me

I think the reason I bought it up was because my friend (who works in the industry) played Bioshock Infinite recently and spent the whole playthrough looking for reasons why it shouldn't have been given such good reviews, kinda made me think it was a sorry situation to be in is all.

It means that in my opinion some people seem to have lost the capacity to just switch off and enjoy games as an entertainment medium instead of over-analyzing and critiquing them. There are people out there who will formulate opinions on a COD game solely based on it being a COD game, without playing it. I didn't think I made it that hard to understand.

My comment wasn't particularly directed at Mapcore, more of a broad reaction to all the comments on news items I've read about this game over the past day or so.

When it comes to COD you are right about the single player, things need to change there (and maybe won't) but I mainly get it for the MP and for me it's my favorite MP game out there (along with BF). It's kind of a social thing, I have a group of friends who all get together every year and spend the majority of the year playing the new COD games together, catching up while doing so and generally having a laugh. In that respect for me it's great value for money as I end up putting days of online hours into the games and have a good time while doing so.

If i was more SP focused when it came to these games maybe I'd share some of the opinions of others online, but I'm not so I don't

    Haha

Honestly though the day I stop looking forward to games that are legitimately enjoyable because I want to conform to the opinions of the negative online minority is the day I want to stop working in the industry. Enjoying games on a basic level is what many gaming fans online nowadays seem to forget they're supposed to be doing
