This guys made a basic AI controlled turret which fires upon the player when it gets within a certain range. Hopefully you'll find some of it helpful!

Cool cheers, will take a look at those this week. Did have a quick skip through already and it doesn't look like he uses behaviour trees. Quite a lot of tutorials also don't, do you guys know if this is because a) behaviour trees are pretty new and there's less documentation, or b) there are better ways to set up AI?

    Hey guys

Am starting to learn how to put AI together in UE4 using blueprints (no C++). Does anyone know of anywhere I can find concise, easy to follow information on things such as making AI characters move to the enemy when they get in range, changing the walking speed of the AI whilst a behaviour tree is running (if that's even possible), etc?

What I've got so far is a basic setup with a character that moves to random points, controlled by a Behaviour Tree. The tutorials I've found either seem to relate to C++ techniques or creating AI outside of behaviour trees, there doesn't seem to be much on trees themselves (are they new?). Even trying to find out how to set up simple decorators is something I can't find much info on

    Any help is much appreciated

Finally saw Sabotage. Unfortunately, it's pretty bad. Didn't make a lot of sense, wasn't really interesting and actually kinda boring. Too bad....

Exactly what I thought. Parts of it moved way too fast and they kept killing off characters without giving you a good look at them (so I wasn't sure who it was that had died), like I'm supposed to remember their names after them being mentioned once? The whole thing was a bit of a mess, disappointing as I liked both Training Day and End of Watch a lot. Also Arnie's acting was really bad, but then who doesn't expect that?

    "Dambusters"? lol...

I wasn't in the office today actually when this name was unveiled. I'll have to find out tomorrow if it's actually a cheeky dig by the UK arm of a former German employer

That's good news then Paul, glad you're rid of the stigma of the Crytek situation. That can't have been a nice thing looming over. You manage to keep your job then I take it?

    (edited for clarity!)

I don't know what the edit said A job is there for me though if I want it, the new Dambuster company requires everyone to sign a new contract but apart from that it's a seamless transfer. No one will technically lose their job over this, but a lot of people left during the few months that we weren't paid. It's easy to see why - even though recently we've known this acquisition was likely to happen a lot of people had already interviewed with other companies and sometimes the lure of a new workplace and fresh start is hard to resist. I also have a few options I'm currently weighing up, I will likely make a decision this week.

Crytek UK isn't closing down as such, we are continuing to work in the same offices, with the same people on HF2, the main difference being we are no longer part of Crytek and are now owned by Deep Silver

Just finished playing this, really enjoyed it, the best straight up FPS I've played in quite a few years. I liked the exploratory level design with the number of secrets to be found, the characters and the gunplay (after playing so much COD over recent years it's nice to once again have a game where enemies explode satisfyingly). If I had to pick fault with it I'd say I didn't like the way the cutscenes were integrated - the scenes themselves were cool but the whole 'press button to initiate cutscene' thing was quite obvious and immersion breaking - would have been nice to have more interactive scenes.

That, and the level of polish that seemed apparent in the early levels seemed to fall by the wayside somewhat. Examples would be how in the first proper level I found an AA gun and saw a large robot walking nearby, and decided to see what would happen if I used the AA gun to shoot it. Turns out you can destroy it, leading to a congratulatory response from one of your team. This was cool because it was totally incidental and didn't tie into anything mission related or even trophy/achievement based. Another time I found a car in a garage and got into the driver seat, where BJ started making car noises and pretending to drive it. I found switches on a wall which I started messing with and eventually had a nearby cabinet move to one side and reveal a secret room. All these things were awesome, but as the game went on they became less and less frequent - I don't remember anything similar in the last half of the game at least and the levels started to seem a bit more linear.

I also wasn't a fan of the train yard or sewer levels, I feel like I've been in those environments far too many times in FPS games now and I appreciated Wolfenstein more when it was taking me to places that weren't so ordinary. Overall though, great game that was at times funny, inventive and never really got boring. Great job by DKM and the Machinegames guys.

Some are speculating that by 'origin' game they simply meant the game is going back to the origins of the Doom story, rather than anything to do with the EA Origin service

Did you ever play Baldurs Gate? Because DA:O basically was a Baldurs Gate game.

Nope. I didn't actually watch the gameplay video before posting my previous comment, but having flicked through it now it doesn't look like the Skyrim replacement I was after. Too many cutscenes I guess (plus pretty bad voice acting?) and the combat doesn't appeal. Cheers though

Never played a dragon age game also, but looking for my next fix along the lines of Skyrim - can anyone tell me if this is similar? Is it likely to be anywhere near as good? I read middling reviews of the previous games in the franchise.
