I really prefer Maya for modelling/uv mapping/shaders etc etc.
Max has nice shaders but there not really node based. Maya FTWz !!1
Ohyeah rendering is nicer in max imo

Doesn't blend well at all as both sections are in focus. One needs to be blurred for the mind to make it work better.
I tend to dissagree, there are alot of ways to blend fore and background. In Akira they hardly blur anything, but differentiate the fore and background by saturation, contrast, line thickness, perspective, parallex scrolling, detail etc etc.
If I would blur the fore or background, and go for a more realistic fotographic image, I'd get rid of those outlines and in the background aswell.
Not to attack youre critisim, youve got a point. : D

looks really nice !! the asphalt could maybe be a bit lighter like on the photo.
looking very good none the less.

i think it looks nice, maybe a bit too detailed ?

Hahaha : D Yup, I was about to ask you if you knew them !
And Killzone is looking and playing really nice.
As for how the background blends with scenery in the front, ...
I think there should be a fence or something, maybe some pipes "blending"
the two together.
Also i think there should be a character in the middle looking at the city.

Could you tell us which tool did you use to blend ?
Well... I havent done any blending yet in photoshop, if thats youre question.
But in the end ill blend the 3D street in the foreground (< is that a word ?) in photoshop.
(the 3D street im modelling in Maya, baking in Max.)
This is the 3D street im gonna use. Still WIP, needs some textures and baking.

you could just make it a 1024x512, there's too little detail to make it worth the double texture size i'd say.
but the normal looks very good, keep it up !
