Sounds outright awful from where I'm sitting. What happens when some greedy amateurs slap together some ugly models and textures and put it up as a premium package because it's got so much "custom content?"

I cant' get my head around the "tuning level" in the garage shot. Even though the 50's were the auto performance boom, it's not like you could just pick up parts and make any car faster. Sounds cheap.

Could use a fireplace or some such to fill the living room more.
Keep going with the character. There's no toilet, so how about some toilet paper/stack of newspapers at one end of the dock? Maybe a Croc head with/instead of the antlers?
-
You could totally NeoTokyo that shizz.
-
And for god's sakes make some server options for any air attacks this time. I remember entire 50-player servers agreeing on that.

Interesting to see so much stuff set for INS Beta 3 was planned all along (1911 pistol, Uzi, etc.)

It's definitely an intersting theory. Sort of a public-television type of model, which could yield some great creativity.
But I'd say that the main draw to anything of this sort is to circumvent publishers, censorship and so on, which is already happening with mods and sponsors (ATI, USAF, Alienware etc.)
If underground games got to the same level as independent/short film, the industry as a whole would probably be a lot better.

I view the gameplay footage I've seen as proof that all third person games are:
1. Designed almost completely for consoles, and;
2. Given camera tips from Michael Bay.
Which is unfortunate. I always loved third person games on the PC, and why anyone would want this sort of constantly skewed, wooshy camera is beyond me.

Ah, Winback. The game I always wanted to play and all the video stores never had.

Microsoft published game may not come to PC.
Earth thought to be round. More on these and other stories, plus your local weather at 10.

Logged some more hourse today. Got slaughtered on some ridiculously stacked servers, lots of idiots who refused to work as a team, and noobs who think they have to join a server as quickly as possible, and look up how to play later.
But when I found a good game, had someone grab the ghost and call out enemy positions, and I'd throw a smoke, pop out with thermal vision and kill 'em, awesome fun.
Hit detection seems god awful though.

I went through this too. It sort of combines the two great annoyances of Source multiplayer; the "bang WTF instakill from nowhere" from Insurgency with the "watch one guy with 30 health camp a doorway for 15 minutes and die" of Counter-Strike.
But it's a lot like Insurgency in that. Once I joined a squad, got a little coordinated, stuck together, I had some great times. Long range combat seems the most frustrating to me, but man is the CQB stuff great.

Quote from Erratic
The opflash/arma series isn't about graphics, its about losing your entire squad and getting lost, hiding in a bush for 30 minutes doing fuck all before mustering up the courage to crawl your way 2km's across enemy territory only to be shot in the head from some guy you could never have seen coming. So basically, the coolest thing ever.
Fucking dead on. I used to love playing the Flashpoint Demo like it was one big Counter-Strike. I spent hours on top of that hill shooting at blurry dots with a PKM.
And I will never forget the feeling I got when a tank rolled past a house I was in, looking for me, and I tried to blast it with a LAW.
QuoteIt didn't work.

In some strange, intangible way it reminds me of classic maps in DoD and Firearms, which is a very good thing.

So will Doom 4 get broken GFW DLC?
-
My tally thus far is:
-It lacks both the writing of Sam Lake and voice acting of James Mcaffrey.
-It's not in New York.
-Rockstar is terrible at making PC Games.
-I can't recall Rockstar ever releasing mod tools for their games.
-The makers of Bully are developing it...
I can't even think of a straight shooter ever made by Rockstar. Red Dead Revolver was started by Capcom (and full of annoyances) and Manhunt as I understand it is part stealth.

AHEM.

It's an Ingram, not an Uzi. And it looked like zip ties holding the light, not barbed wire, which would be kind of cool.
I want to get a better glimpse of those new pistols though.
