  • EA to take over Take Two...?

Apparently, the "hostile takeover" strategy is still in the maybe pile:

Then again, this is coming from the New York Post...

As discovered on the 3D Realms boards.....

I don't like what he says either. He conveniently ignores Take 2's big upcoming releases and just claims to be riding into the fray in the nick of time to save them.

I dislike Valve for one basic reason: they don't do very much.

In the meantime before their next Half-Life, they simply buy the next popular mod, maybe tweak it a bit, and release the next version with a price tag. They bought Team Fortress, they bought Counter-Strike, they bought Day of Defeat, they hired college kids to make Portal, and Left 4 Dead is little more than a cash-in on the recent Zombie mod trend.

I'm always on the FUBAR Hardcore Team Deathmatch servers. I've had to deal with a lot of annoying kids who were obsessed with a good kill to death ratio. They always try to convince everyone else on the server that I'm a complete noob (one was actually 20 levels below me.)

I explain that it's a GAME, and that I prefer having fun to crawling everywhere and camping to ensure maximum life, but they just go on and on. Into the next round, when I haven't typed a word, they start right up again. Thankfully they always leave, and I never see them again, but there's always a fresh one.

Most of the time I'm playing Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. It's got its good and bad points. If the community of players wasn't so deplorable I'd have far more happy memories of it though.

When I get tired of that I step back into Team Fortress 2. Where the hell is that next "Meet the Class" video anyway?

Day of Defeat was released long before 2003, wasn't it?

There's a rather large and active community of Duke3D mods, around the 3DR boards and such.

Here? Well, it's not for Source...

Er..... why is it in first person? Games with focus on movement and environmental interaction usually work better in third person. I'd at least like a choice in the matter, but then again I'd like that in most any game.......

  • The Duke is still alive, teaser incoming

Less than six years of silence, not ten.

Team Fortress 2 was announced around the same time, and was released a few months ago. I haven't seen half as many complaints about it as there are here.

Duke looked a bit different, but everything in the trailer looked very good to me.

... Of course, I'm by no means surprised by the negative feedback around here........

On that note, can the flames be changed on the color slider?

I am loving that lighting Pogo. I also like how full the rooms are. It looks like all the houses and tenements in the original game should've looked.

    Quote from ChopperDave

It's a complete rehash of the first game.

Valve got away with it three times......

But it's rather apparent that these guys have virtually no creativity. Hell, they let their fans pick the title, and then settled on the most generic one on the list.

    I can see it now;

"Man, you gotta check out Project Origin!"

"That the new Linkin Park CD?"

  • De_Forest Released!!

    Just downloaded it. Wow.

I've got a 7800 GeForce and a dual core AMD (anything more specific I'd have to find out) and framrate was pretty good with 13 bots.

The first few seconds in this thing were fantastic. Covering from rock to rock, blind firing everywhere in panic. Hearing bullets hit all around me, ducking into one of the rundown shacks for cover, wondering where the hell it was coming from. A whole new level of gameplay.

Felt like a whole new game. Congratulations on some revolutionary work.

Gameplay videos looked good. And it's friggin' third person, so it sounds good.

Coming to PC? Either the guy playing sucked or moving your crosshair is a real pain.....

Good Christ in hell hitting himself over the head with a stick.

This thing's destined for all-time classic status. Took a walk around it by myself (any plans for bots in the future?) and once I put my jaw back in place I admired all the shootout potential. It's almost like a Vietnam game, you'll be walking slowly through those passages, keeping an eye out for snipers in the countless perfect spots, and boom.

I just had one of those "what the hell am I doing here" moments.

Thanks for that video Thrik. It looks like it has potential to give me some great moments and I think I can justify shelling out however many bucks for it.

If anyone cares to answer, I am curious about some features from other Source mods:

    1. Optional friendly fire?

    2. Microphone support?

    3. As the heavy, does the minigun automatically come down when you fire, or do you have to shoulder it as in Day of Defeat?

    4. Do players' names come up when you hover your crosshair on them? More specifically, if I'm a spy in disguise, can someone look at me for a few seconds and see "enemy?"
