Nice work Pogo, textbook use of stock content. Will definately take it for a spin.
I get the impression you may release additional versions of this map. May I suggest that in the future you use some sort of naming convention to ensure everyone has the same map version. I'm confident a single beta release on mapcore would be all that is necessary to pick up any bugs or refinements that may have sliped through the cracks. It's good to have a final release with your intended name without crappy extensions.

Thanks for the info Sentura, gestalt psychology is interesting stuff from a design perspective. I'd never heard of it. I'm pretty happy with the overall silhouette, I'm just refining the center of the design.
Hexetic, the IC lead, suggested gears interlocked in an asymmetrical pattern (one large, two small) in the center to make it look more mechanical.

Finally got off my ass and did my tax. Getting a solid return so considering purchasing a graphics tablet. I know a couple of mapcorians use 'em and was just after some opinions. Does anyone use anything other than Wacom?
Not looking at spending an insane amount of money, I'm only after a small tablet and hoping to pick one up for a couple of hundred.

Although I've experienced my fair share of problems with Steam, I actually like it.
EA download manager truely does suck balls. Download speed was a joke and I have no idea where the fuck it put the archive. My computer's bloated with crap and in need of a reformat and don't want to re-download it.
As far as HGL goes, I haven't played it a great deal. I think the classes and combat seem cool but the heavy instancing sux and the environments get monotonous quick. No Australian servers either.

Looks good Paul. What's your project entail? As far as tweaking the lighting goes, if you're not using a custom skybox the wiki Skylist page has recommended settings for all skyboxes. They're a good starting point.
When it comes to screenshots my personall preference is a width less than 1024. Considering that they're being viewed in a browser, I'd prefer the majority to be able to see the entire image at 100% scale.

Thanks for the feedback.
Felix: I think I understand what you mean, having all the circular areas the same size. My first design did that but I prefered this one.
Static07: I think the nanovirus is supposed to be some sort of biomechanical virus that affects humans and machines alike but not entirely sure. I should clarify that.
I aggree the designs I came up with don't really suggest nano. How do those designs you made up suggest it? BTW I like the shape in the center of your design.

Neither look too great to me. People have provided plenty of constructive feedback to you and it doesn't look like you've taken any of it into consideration.

The Into Cerberon team are after a symbol for a Nanovirus so I though I'd have a crack. It would be used throughout maps to indicate areas affected by a nano-plague: dead zones and previously-infected sites, laboratories or secure storage areas that are studying the virus.
Things I took into consideration were the recognisable aesthetic of the biohazard symbol. People know that means "bad shit". I also steared away from the trefoil symmetry, adopting a 4 sided cross instead. The eye in the middle gives it a bit of sentience about it (at least it's supposed to).
*edit: Symbol made in illustrator. Just chucked it on a background texture for presentation so only concerned with feedback for the symbol itself.
Anyway here's some variants I came up with. Criticisms welcome.

Ok, aesthetic concerns aside, what do you guys think of the design? interesting? not?I can always play with the brushwork and texturing, but the concept is what i'm most concerned about.
thanks for the feedback, both positive and negative, I appreciate it.
Without a distinct aesthetic in mind it's difficult to produce a convincing design. What sort of environment are you trying to create? It's much easier to have an environment in mind and use reference pics to ensure the map has a degree of plausibility.

Just wondering if there's a way to disable the glow preview from sprites in the 3d window but still display the actual entity?

Nexus: My place is basically 3 rooms, bedroom, bathroom and livingroom/kitchen in one (miniture laundry in a walldrobe). The place is bright with black finishing around doors and the kitchen bench so I got mostly black or very dark brown furniture.
The computer table is actually in the livingroom passageway.
Zacker: As the fan on the computer desk suggests, the place is bullshit hot (30-40+ degrees). Can't wait to get aircon installed. I hate tiles though, would much rather wood or carpet.
e-freak: The entire place is very dissaturated with little colour, hence the rich green feature wall. I specifically designed the stencil to be unobtrusive, it's only 2 paint shades brighter than the background and you don't even see it when watching tv.
I don't tend to re-decorate or re-arrange shit unless I'm unhappy with it. I don't buy new tv's very often either.
I definately need more shit on the walls. Trying to think of stencil ideas for the bedroom too.
Love this thread. It's cool looking at other people's shit.

Looking good Pogo

My living room, my excuse for the cleanliness is I've been institutionalised by the military + I have a girlfriend.

Here's my miniture computer desk, man I wish I had more space.

Thought this article on the most recent incarnation of the Idtech4 engine was an interesting read.

I respectfully disagree with your well constructed essay Frie. This is nothing new. I've been exposed to adverjournilism marketing on radio, tv, papers and magazines my entire life. Even disguised as current affairs. As you mentioned in your article, the Internet has given a voice to independents like Zero Punctuation, Penny Arcade and the like. There's also review aggregators like Metacritic that can assist puting a bias review into perspective.
I don't take any "profesional" reviews of anything seriously for this very reason, I'd place more faith in the words on a personal blog or a forum. I know what I like and it's often at odds with what's critically acclaimed.
I think if anything, it's becoming easier to bypass this obvious and redundant marketing bullshit although it is here to stay.

If you want your stuff to stand out, absolutely. It also opens up a heap of posabilities with what you can achieve. At least some basic modelling and texture knowledge comes in handy.
I've only just started playing round with current generation game engines myself. From what little I know Source is probably the least model dependant when compared to Idtech4 and especially u3.
I picked up a student edition of Max and bought a DVD with a few projects on it (it was shit, only watched half but it taught me some basics). There's also some great tutorials out there specific to game modelling, if you go with Max I'd recommend GeneralVivi's bench tutorial.

Nice one Moroes, I think you did the original justice in this remake. I agree with Buddy's points but good job non the less.

For my current CS:S map I was originally going to create parody advertisements for billboards, posters etc but have decided to advertise MODs instead. I'm currently in the process of contacting mods and asking for their approval to advertise them in game.
If you're a team member of a mod and would like some in game advertising reply to this thread. If you can provide concept images or other cool art that could easily be made into posters, billboards and shit that would be great too.
Doesn't matter what engine the mod is for, as long as it doesn't suck balls.
This is the discussion thread for the map itself

Killertomato: I live in Sydney and there's wooden telegraph poles all through the city (more than likely due to poor town planning). I also love wires and want some running around the map. If people feel they look out of place I'll get rid of 'em though. Purhaps I'll make a cement pole if there isn't one already.
RA7: The street is still very empty, I haven't added a single decal. There will be dirt and rubish although I'm staying clear of dilapidated and damaged architecture.
Instead of making parody adds for billboards, posters, etc I'm going to contact some mods and ask if they'd mind me placing adds for them in my map.
