every face without a smoothing group assigned will get the same smoothing group applied to them

not sure if there is a hotkey for it, but you can do a lot of snapping operations that you find in the right-click menus

Spawning on SL or the whole squad is a server option.

No, it works fine. Finding servers with friends have never been easier since you can join the same server simultaneously, and have quick and easy voice-ip even when not ingame.
