I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet (or at least I haven't seen it mentioned).

ModDB just launched the new version of their site. Check it out.

1st person cut scenes are better, they keep you in the immersion instead of pulling you out like 3rd person cut scenes do and break the suspense. I like being involved, although it takes control away that's no biggie it's still great to watch

Sort of. 3rd person gives you way more flexibility with what you can do with a cutscene. You can get in more camera angles, plus the cutscene can incorporate shots of "things happening elsewhere" that you can't do in 1st person cutscenes. The cutscenes in Metal Gear games are awesome, and even though they're 3rd person I don't feel like the immersion has been ruined for me. I agree with Thrik on this.

Well, I got the 60 GB version, so I've got it all (except games) -- built-in wireless, memory card readers, and hardware-based backwards compatibility. I'm happy with this setup.

High lvl caps in games irritate me too (lvl50 in HGL).

I'm the opposite. I hate it when Lvl 20 is max b/c you can get there quickly in other games, and then what? At least with Hellgate you know that with that high level cap the monsters will get really tough. Plus it allows you to change your mind if you screw up your char build w/o having to start over.

it doesnt look like shit, especially not for an MMO

Not really an MMO. Sure there can be hundreds of players in town, but when you go out to the dungeons, it's only a party of 8 max, and no one else. Also there isn't a large world to explore -- it's all rather confined dungeons. Instancing + small areas doesn't really make it much of an MMO. So they could have afforded to up the graphics without lagging people out too badly since the only time they see everyone is in town, where speed isn't really an issue since there's no combat.

Yeah, this was a let down. The game is extremely slow paced, and it's too RPG-ish. There are certain aspects of the game that should have taken a more standardized action approach (if you shoot a guy head on, it should hit him, if you swig your sword within range of him, it should hit him) with RPG elements built around it. I only got to level 2 and asked myself what the hell I was doing. This game is basically Diablo 2, but with a lot less action and fun.

On a positive note, I did get a Deus Ex vibe from the environments. I liked the setting a lot. But the incredibly bland graphics and people just standing around doing nothing really destroyed the immersion.

I'll probably get it anyways just because the multiplayer aspect will probably be a lot of fun regardless of the gampelay's shortcomings.

    Very scalable graphics

Yeah, but unfortunately even at the highest settings the game still looks like shit.

annoying puzzles pulled straight from resident evil

Well, if you think about it, any puzzle in a survival horror game is a derivative of an RE puzzle in some way.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to pass on this game. As much as I want to play it, I've got no intention of upgrading my PC anytime soon. I already had to turn Bioshock down to medium just to get it to run at a decent FPS, so I know this thing'll barely run on low. Booo for retardedly high requirements.

12gb? are you fucking kidding me.

Considering you can get a 320 GB HDD for $100 or less, it's not really that big of an issue.

Oh I'm sure there's more. But honestly, if you're gonna make a gameplay video to tease people about the game, try showing some of that new stuff. That's what hooks people.

Wow. This vid is a good indication that it's time to let the IP die and move on. It's a complete rehash of the first game.

Sure we'll set a scary atmosphere, but you're only gonna fight soldiers! Are you scared yet?

Blast a guy with your shotgun and he turns into red mist! Just like real life!

But wait, you can kick over hospital gurneys! Sweet, now my tactics have completely evolved from turning on bullet time and blasting away to....turning on bullet time and blasting away!

And I especially liked how you break a window, and the broken glass vanishes in a matter of seconds. They don't have enough system resources to leave fragments around longer than that?

    Quote

but but the AI looks to be as stupid as ever ... and hospitals are infinitely big with no exterior windows what so ever ...

Yeah the AI was pretty bad too. Didn't see any kind of squad tactics whatsoever. And yes, hospitals normally aren’t supposed to have exterior windows, because if they did then if a fire broke out people would be able to escape. Didn’t you know this ?

Way too dark. When it was time to 'check out the tunnel', it took me 15 minutes because I kept getting turned around. Cranking up the gamma didn't help much either.

I liked the combination of weapons and powers, but honestly, it just felt like another demon shooter, only with goth troopers.
