I'm trying to like this game but it just makes me want to play Stalker.

However I did enjoy Metro 2033 for what it's worth, I have to admit right after uninstalling it I felt the urge to go through the first Stalker again (CoP I just finished and Clear Sky is a buggy pile of shit and I can't play more than 2 hours without my saves corrupting).

I played a couple hours this morning. I quite like it so far. Didn't encounter bugs, the atmosphere is great, and "safe zones" full of detail and people. It's a bit like a linear Stalker game, but with higher production values. It trades its open-endedness for better cut-scenes (Call of Pripyat's cutscenes were laughable) and "life". I haven't really noticed anything about the human AI yet, but I think the section I'm about to play features more bandits so I'll see that then. Good game so far though, I like how they reward exploration by having ammo work as currency and placing stashes everywhere.

Something I was asking myself yesterday: it seems a good thing to bring your laptop to events or interviews to allow possible employers to try out your levels right away. But my laptop died a while ago, and I really don't have the money to buy one that would run Crysis without having to tune it down to low setting, and I really wouldn't want to show the game in low settings for fear of the poor dude going blind.

Is there a solution to my issue? Did anybody here ever have this issue and still managed to get a decent interview going? Maybe by bringing the CDs for the games involved?

I haven't pirated a game since I discovered Steam, partly because of how convenient it is, partly because at that time I moved from poor student to poor part-time employee, partly because I got serious about working in this industry. Got me about 160 games on Steam since then, and almost none in stores!

I do download tv series, mostly for my girlfriend cause I don't watch anything these days, but it's just 'cause they're available online before anywhere else, and she still buys the seasons when they come out in stores. I sometimes download a movie, but I try to go to the theater instead when possible (my gf can get cheap tickets with her job). I mostly pirate when I'm not certain it's worth the money they ask for it, and often if it's good, I buy the movie or related material like the soundtrack. I got a few pirated software installed, but I try to rely on free apps more and more instead. I barely download music anymore, and rely on websites like Deezer or Grooveshark. Could say I'm a recovering pirate

I think the best, most accessible and shortest way to show your design skills is to create a video about your project's development, such as the one coulianos did for technodome. It's also been discussed before that post-mortems can be interesting aswell, like what you had in mind, what went wrong or right...

I like your portfolio btw, I think it's visuals are a good change from what you usually see.

As always, much appreciated. I've made those additional changes. I definitely see the point of putting the screen shots up before the descriptions. Do you think the people viewing the site will know to use the header to go back to the home page? I'm trying to make the navigation as simple as possible. It's intuitive to me. I just wonder if others might get confused. tob

I would also think it's intuitive enough, but if you want to be sure, you can always add a navigation menu on top of the project info (above the link to the video), with a link going back, a link going to the previous project, and one to the next. < ^ > You can keep it small too, so it doesn't push your page farther down. It's always a good idea to allow to browse content without having to go back to the index too many times.

BTW, there's a typo in the GOW level description: Uniuqe roller coaster structure. I also think you use that Unique word a few too many times (twice in the Fallout 3 bulletpoints for instance)

A question for anyone who has visited my site... I'm wondering if the link to my contact information and about me is apparent? I hope it is but having made it I can really see the page with fresh eyes.

I have to admit it's a bit weird to have the About link merged with your name, as the name usually leads back to the homepage on portfolios, but since you only have one page, and since you added the hover effect on the whole image, I say it's clear enough what it does.

I think it works great. Have only tested it out with Firefox but if it works well with other browsers, then it's a keeper.

Only thing that bothered me is that sentence: "Awesome intro cinematic puts the player right in the action!" That's clearly nitpicking, but I'd get rid of "awesome" or replace it with something more open, like "stylish" or something. It just feels a bit weird, is all

Im trying to read hitchhikers guide to the galaxy at the moment but I'm having a hard time. The author tries so hard to be funny 98% of the time ... It annoys me very much. I wish I could read the same story without all the unfunny jokes.

I enjoyed the first one, but in the sequels it got old quickly and the jokes even lamer, so I had a painful time finishing the last 2.

Rant - The Oral Biography of Buster Casey

I'm a huge palahniuck fan, and recommend all of his books, but this one seriously surprised me. For the first time he ventures into a bit of sci-fi but manages to keep his unique style. Rant is like those movies that need instant rewatching. It's told in a pretty original way aswell, through interviews of fictional characters that tell the story of this mysterious guy named Rant, and some interviews contradict others so you have to decide what you want to believe.

    Anathem

Hard to get into for the first 50 pages, but amazing speculative fiction, very very well thought, intelligent, detailed, hard to believe a single dude can juggle with all the concepts of math, space, time, etc. and he manages to merge them into a great sci-fi story. Loved it. I'm reading Snow Crash right now by the same author and it's great too.

I'll come up with some more later, but being 600km away from my personal library doesn't help remembering what I read.

I dunno, the more you look at this shot, the weirder it gets. What's up with the second dude being half blurry, half straight? And what's the bit on thec left that looks like a small branch sticking into the shot, not blurred? Or the right part of the google on the guy's helmet is way more blurred than the left one, which doesn't make much sense seeing as it is only slightly more in the foreground.
