I bought this game on steam during a sale and played it for like 5 minutes before going "wtf is wrong with these controls, I can't even figure out how to block attacks" then "wtf, I'm not enjoying this at all". Then I uninstalled it. :-|

Def Jam - Fight For NY will stay the only combat game I ever loved.

[that.is.awesome. I'm seriously considering going over there with my gf in summer break. would you by any chance now if there are any wildcamping spots?

Not sure about wildcamping, but I don't think it'd be too hard to find a spot since as you can see from the shot, the surroundings are mostly composed of forest and small villages. There are some camp sites (#1, #2) right behind it aswell, if needed, although they cost around 30 euros a night in summer. If you do go there, I suggest you do by car, because the area is pretty remote and there's lots of cool stuff to visit further in the land or higher/lower on the coast like vine exploitations, surf spots, etc. although I'm sure in summer there are buses aswell. It's a pretty lovely part of france.

If anyone knows how to rip models from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and get them working on Episode 1 engine that would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think anybody's going to rain on his parade, but technically he is sort of stealing I guess.

I agree with Nurb on the unnecessary pages: I think the Resume, Contact and About pages could be merged into one. I would get rid of the contact form and place a link to your email address instead on top of the Resume (or maybe even on top of each page, like a @ symbol or something). I mean, I would think that HR people are forced to develop methods to manage their email contacts and all, and that they'd rather stick to it rather than sending a mail through a form.

About the portfolio itself: I think there's too much space between the top of the page and the actual first screenshots. You could scrap the page title line by adding a small indicator of which page is loaded in the menu. Also, since the shots are smaller than the website's width, they make the page look a bit unbalanced, especially with these category titles centered. I would either place the categories ("multiplayer levels") centered above the pics, or center the pics relatively to the page.

All in all, you've got a very solid portfolio there. My only remark about the content would be that most of the levels sort of look too "Unreal"-ish, meaning they seem to all use a similar palette and post processing effects. Your team projects bring a bit of fresh air to the whole thing though. I also like how you detail your design goals and process for each project. Is there a precise reason why sometimes the Stats & Downloads sections are inverted?

i get a feeling this is gonna be one of those games are art things. no, no matter what the interface is not part of the game. you wouldn't judge a hotel just by its lobby, or a restaurant by its facade or interior rather than its food. while there are valid criticisms for interfaces of any kind, these are not what distinguish game quality (and certainly we can have a brilliant game despite a bad interface).

Well, I see you got your opinion on the matter, and I got mine. But personally, of course I would judge an hotel in part for its lobby, and a restaurant in part for its interior. Eating in a smelly basement with cockroaches running around isn't going to leave me a great impression even if the food is amazing. What I was meaning to say is that, yes, a great game can exist with a bad interface, but it shouldn't, and a bad interface isn't going to get people to consider it a great game. It's not exactly the game, but it's part of the experience and of the feeling it's going to leave on you, even if it's not as important as the actual game.

i don't think i have ever heard of anyone complaining about the interface in a game being part of the gaming experience, so i'll have to disagree. so yes, a game can still be brilliant despite a worse than average interface (not saying that metro 2033 is).

When I go to the theater and I have to sit through 20 minutes of commercials before watching Avatar, I'm going to be pissed off, no matter if the guy next to me keeps saying "don't worry, it's not the actual movie experience, it hasn't started yet!". I've seen more than my share of people raging out of a game after trying to connect to a lobby 10 times in a row like in Left 4 Dead or Modern Warfare 2. A bad interface does influence a game negatively, even if it's not mandatory to have a great interface for a game to be good.

Just imagine that a game you just bought started with this unskippable sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfosJvJxWWg

Would you still think "well, no worries, it's not part of the gaming experience!"? Or would you ALT-F4 the shit out of it and bring the game back to the store?

Just because people don't complain about it all the time doesn't mean it's not a problem. They just have to do with it, but that don't mean it doesn't diminish the global gaming experience.

I'm with Gloglebag on this one, the front end is part of the game and if it sucks, it doesn't mean that the game itself sucks, it's just one more step towards frustration. I have Bad Company 2 installed, but rarely play it because everytime I'm like "meh, if I run the game, I need to struggle with the menus, nah, maybe later..."

That said, I didn't have issues with Metro 2033 front end, I mean, I finished the game in only 3 sessions so it didn't manage to piss me off. Great game too!

Just redownloaded it and the new manual is kick ass! Really professional and you covered basically every step of the installation I missed the first time

Stupid Crysis mod launcher that won't load the mod!

I dunno if this thing even works at all, no luck with any of the mods I tried to run so far, I had to create a shortcut to the game everytime. That's why I included the installer that creates them automatically.

Watching you on the video trying it again and again wasn't very fun either, should have made it clearer from the start

Great stuff, I think this is one of the best portfolios I've seen so far. I like how you managed to stick all of the content on one page but still provide all the information needed in the videos. Shadowbox works wonders for me, but it'd be even better if you could have a higher setting selected by default, right now I start every video then realize it looks like crap, and have to watch from the beginning after setting it to the max setting. I believe you can preselect the setting with a simple &hd=1 or &fmt=18 or something at the end of the link to youtube.
